    I quit drawing as a kid even though I was told by teachers and family I was really good. I let mean kids discourage me from pursuing art and now at 33 I’m getting back into drawing. Your video is very helpful 🙂

      Me too n that's how I found this video did a couple drawings the other day n want to take it up a notch. I stop drawing when I started learning how to shade,if I had learnt that I wouldn't have stopped. 30 now but trying to get to what I love as a kid

      I also quit drawing when I was 17. It is by far the bigest mistake I've done in my life and the only I have really regreted. I got back into drawing at 41 years old (1 year ago). Stories of our life, at ;least on that part, are the same! Only the numbers of years are different! I've seen huge improvement, in only one year of watching videos and practicing. Every 3 months, the drawings I was proud for,suddenly. look poor and I love, that this repeats with time!! The more I draw, the better I become. I hate when people keep saying,that it's all about talent,there is NO talent, it's only how much studing and hard work you've put into it!! It's all about how much you love anything you do!!

    1. Clicked the video
    2. She went straight to the pointers I was looking for
    3. Demonstrated all of this under 6 minutes (ignoring the 5 seconds)
    4. Received great insight
    Kirsty you're a beauty! 😎

    I never took art in school although art is my favourite thing in this world and now I regret it. I recently had a miscarriage a few months ago so sunk into a deep depression and getting back into art has really helped me and so have your videos so thank you💗I’ve learnt a lot from you!

      Synthetic brushes for blending! I can't choose just one so I also hate to go without a kneaded eraser as well as my tombow.

    • @ForeverLumoz
      @ForeverLumoz 6 років тому

      Mary Tales how do you blend with synthetic brushes? I'm relearning drawing, so I'm generally curious. And what do you use the the Tombow for?

    • @MaryDraws
      @MaryDraws 6 років тому

      Line B the synthetic brushes are soft enough imo to use to sweep the graphite into the tooth of the paper without damaging the surface. I think Kirsty also mentions using them in a recent video. After I leave this comment, I'll find out which one it was and let you know. Feel free to google using paintbrushes for blending though. The tombow I use for picking out highlights in eyes or hair. Really anything I want a strong highlight on. The kneadable eraser I use for soft highlights with soft edges.

    • @MaryDraws
      @MaryDraws 6 років тому

      Line B OK its called "best ways to blend graphite pencils" ua-cam.com/video/5IZQsOxTDio/v-deo.html I've used brushes for years bc I love how soft the results are. Also bc I have water soluble graphite too. Any cheap pack of soft brushes from Walmart will do to start out learning to blend with them. Fluffy brushes are nice too.

    I don't use the very fine mechanical pencils but do use clutch pencils. Sometimes, depending on the piece, I prefer a blunt pencil, particularly when dealing with soft fur. Mechanical ones are a little to 'sharp' for my liking. I do use darker pencils and blending stumps... couldn't do without them. In fact, i once did a commissioned drawing of a dog using blending stumps almost exclusively. I had NOT thought to use a black polychromos so that's great to know. My Tombow Mono eraser is INVALUABLE!! Love it. I se it SO much. Thanks so much!

      Best drawing and sketching supplies list: Pentel Graphgear 500 0.5mm,is the best pencil for drawing!!!
      Best Drawing paper, is the Hahnemuhle Dessin 150gsm (quality that leaves you speechless!). For finished work that is going to be sold, best paper is: Arches Hot pressed watercolor paper.
      Lead holders are a "must", Kohinoor 5340 for sketching and Faber Castell TK4600/9400 for drawing, are the best in the market.(For beginers, choose Kohinoor 5347 lead holder,instead of the 5340) Tip: Use the same leads as the pencil brand, on each pencil, they also make the best leads and you also get compatibility!!!
      Best Sketchbook: Canson 180 Artbook or Canson Universal (same paper on both)
      Best paperstump: Conte (trust me, they differ a lot from brand to brand.If you can't find Conte, get the Faber Castell. it's not as good, but it's better than most).
      Best kneadable eraser: LYRA
      Best Erasers: Faber Castell 187120 (the rest from that brand, are not that good). Tombow Mono Plastic (2 best erasers on the market,choose any of these 2). Tombow Mono Zero 2.3mm is essential
      PS: Those are the best drawing and sketching supplies you can get. (best in terms,reliability of quality and performance). Feel free to ask for erasers, sharpeners or anything else@@BONSAII_DRAWS

      I'm always doing my art with only only pencil but its way more difficult like shading wise or when you're making such highly detailed hair... And 100 years back too they had these kinds of pencil these are no fancy things these are just darker shades of pencil and an eraser that it... Like with a normal pencil you can't get that darker detail and if you'll try hard you'll end up destroying ur art... Trust me I'm an experienced in this one

    Great tutorial, I liked the camera angle of the hair and model, and thanks for the information on the mono eraser there are plenty of times I have needed a finer eraser. Thank you.
