  • I am going to try to fix my husband's beginner drawing and try to make it as realistic as I can without actually erasing the whole thing! This is going to be so hard...

I feel he got the expression quite well and I was quite impressed that someone who does not do this regularly was so on point in grasping the proportions... so he is actually quite good

      This video was amazing.
The way you brought the drawing to life, just blew me away.
Could I mail you my portrait in pencil? It's got issues.
I want to mail the drawing along with the reference photograph, because after seeing the magic you brought to this drawing, I'd be honored if you could work the same magic on my portrait.
      Respectfully, Brad

Am watching you for 4 yrs now, am just shy to a leave a comment but i feel sad when you're not posting much anymore and when you're burn out. But this a good comeback ♥️♥️♥️you help me improve so much before. Right now I can now draw human anatomy correctly, shapes/ forms, color and shades. I am currently an aspiring digital and watercolor artist.

This made me laugh a lot! And how brave he was to make mistakes on camera! What I love about graphite or coloured pencil drawing is that how ever bad the mistakes are they are correctable, unlike water- or oil-painting. (Well oil painting is, but you have to wait until its dry and then go over again with another layer). You did a great job fixing it, especially the nose and I LOVED the white areas around the creepy house in the foreground. Not sure what the white speckles on the left were for, think the pic could have done without those. Overall, though an entertaining video and hugely helpful. Thanks so much!

🌹Soo thrilled your back! I love your husband’s reaction to his drawing after you touched it up, btw after reading some comments I just have to say that people have to understand that you “both” were doing this piece of artwork as a learning/teaching lesson to help all of us, not because you would actually do this kind of thing to someone’s artwork otherwise. 🖼 🎨 🖌

The husband's drawing was actually pretty damn good if you ask me given the amount of time he took and that fact that he did it freehand. Once one starts to learn a few of the tricks, the quality can go up exponentially. I started to draw as a hobby in Feb. 2020 and, within two months, was doing portrait drawings I was willing to show to others. It's fun to find out you actually have some talent as I did at my advanced age. Wish I could show one; however, UA-cam doesn't allow that yet.

Hi Kirsty, how you doing ? Hope you are feeling less stressed out now you have resigned yourself to taking a long break to spend time with your family.
You know what, girl, it is a real pleasure to see you spending a challenging moment with your hubby. I hope he realises the complexity of being a mother and a wife and at the same time being a creative person with a huge following in tow and running a business all at the same time. It was good to see that he is showing an interest in taking part and learning to share a creative moment with you in front of the camera. Besides that I think he also did his best to produce a reasonably good sketch for someone who feels he does not have your ability. Perhaps now he has done this we may see some more of his work as he progresses. Hope he will keep trying. By the way Kirsty, it is good to see you having fun too and welcome back.

I adored this presentation, Question - do you fix other peoples work ? I think that’s a cool idea as a program, though mostly are so protective over their work and hate input, I’m one one those fortunate few that welcomes growth and change and a different perspective!
I’m not sure if you use these techniques as this is only the 2nd vid I’ve seen of yours but my
fave go to tools of the trade are
disposable gloves when doing messy work like charcoal, make up brushes/blushers and cue tips for blending like the tissue around the finger and it gets rid of those oily finger marks, on the measuring where things go id rip of a piece of paper and use it as a measuring tape make marks on it then transfer these marks to my drawing. I agree my Tombo erasure and polychromatic black pencil are a must.
Here my greatest tip I’m a digital artist but when I’m drawing things in pencil, there are many ways to avoid smudging or not being able to see what I’m drawing - like wearing a glove or constantly turning the paper to get into angles and sections while preserving the original drawing, I use an old screen protector from my iPad Pro and place it over my drawing then when I’m reworking areas I’m not scared of smudging and I can also see what I’m doing without shielding my view (don’t press down too heavy that’s just plain silliness)
Btw I some times use hair spray as a fixer.
Anyways so glad to have come across your little channel wish I’d had the idea of doing UA-cam as I’ve always helped people with their art. Keep up the great work your a true gift to a world that needs a little pep in its step and I’ll leave you with my own saying
“We as artists have voices that are unique because we can create images that make people think, see the world in different ways and if you have an ability I almost feel like it’s your responsibility, your social responsibility to take those thoughts and translate them into thought provoking imagery that you can possibly change the world with.”
Have a nice day and continuously beautiful life!

He really didn't do half bad for an armature! Not that bad at all! He could learn this if he wanted to. PS, Kirsty, I tried pure walnut oil for blending color pencil from M Graham art supplies, (Walnut oil is a very dry oil that dries pretty fast). The blending reminded me to the soft look of pastel. Once dry I could also layer over it well. I wondered if you have tried this. PS, Then you also have water Soluble Linseed oil made for water soluble oil paints. They work with color pencils too for much less cost than other options. Both are archival.

At 64 years of age, patience becomes a habit. Through most peoples lives, especially these days, everybody wants to get immediately to the end. I have told people if they want to learn patience and how to slow themselves down, just watch an old person in public. We get to a certain age and we want to look at the details and try to take in what we've missed out on through our decades. He did a fantastic job of trying to relay what he saw. But, nobody can see details until they stop the speeding and get out and walk.
