With all my gratitude, I am thankful for having people like you creating a service. I'm still practicing how to sharpening knives, serrated blades, and scissors. Soon I hope to make knife sharpening business/service a part time job very soon.
My story behind on how I got into knife sharpening. It was during the weekend few months back when my brother due to his erratic somber behavior started to destroy my beloved santoku knife until it became dull. My mom noticed how dull my knives were and she taught me how to sharpen a kitchen knife I really got into it. Also my dad was a chief before he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease nine years back. It was convenient for us to have assortment of sharpening stones for me to practice my knife sharpening skills.
Then few days passed, I had Haganezuka-san a protagonist from the anime "Demon Slayer" popped up into my dream and said I should start running a knife sharpening business.
So that's how I got into knife sharpening overall, but with finger's crossed I hope to make it into a real job very soon.

Excellent series. I was a chef in Aspen, and I miss the knife sharpening guy and his van coming around once a month. Not only did the restaurant pay him the the business knives, but the whole staff would bring knives from home. Where I live now, there's no one!

@@nitanice I was asking cuz many sharpeners work in Farmers Markets as I do. But unless you look at the markets website you won't know they are there. Your area has limited farmers markets open months but the sharpeners will still be willing to work. That said in my area I know of 3 market sharpeners who truly suck at their craft. Clearly not checking their work. I get the redo jobs. These sharpeners still get 4 stars so hold out for 5 star guys!
P.S. knife sharpening is a great Hobby Job.

@@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER Wow! Thanks for the response! I truly appreciate it! We have a great Farmers Market here that opens right about the time I start work in the afternoon on Wednesdays, so I've never been. Maybe I can rope my sister in law into a mission of mercy if we have one here, so that's good to know. I will look into it since I'm giving my stepmom an appropriate chef's knife for x-mas since all of their knives are so bad. Thank you! and it's 17013

Murray Carter did a video where he sharpened a knife with a cinder block and newspaper, then shaved with it.
Lots of ways, time, skill, cost are the variable factors.

Keep in mind- if you are planning to run on generator motor draw is key.
1/3 hp works well. You don’t have to turn off everything else to turn it on
1/2 hr might be trouble with a 2000w generator. Trust Kalamazoo owner’s advice if your on a generator.

You have what I shot. I’m a fabricator with many years experience and still it took about 2 months to build and cost about $12,000.
I say another sharpener just modified a pop up. It looked cool. I’m not sure how he built his out but try to find him or at least pictures of it.
Also think about your generator, noise and stink. Ask where you will be setting up. If you are in the middle of the market I have info that will make you neighbors like you more.

I’m a little surprised. I thought a tormek or something similar like the wen would be what enables sharpening but none of your videos highlighted use of the tormek at all in deference to sanding and polishing wheels. Is the tormek of no use in a sharpening business? I had no idea sanding was preferred method.
