      The main issue with Terra Nova was the writing and direction. It felt like someone went into the pitch meeting with the equivalent of a 5th grader's book report based on reading the back cover synopsis. Great concept that had no actual plan of action to implement.

    Not to rant on Marvel any longer, but how could you forget the Much Over-hyped series, 'Marvel's Inhumans?' Staring Black Bolt who couldn't speak and Medusa without the hair sounds like a surefire hit in the making.

    • @rorylynch7775
      @rorylynch7775 28 днів тому +4

      Not really. Inhumans was only made because Marvel didn't have the onscreen rights to the X-Men at the time. Marvel kept trying to push the Inhumans, but a lot of people didn't care. Pretty much everyone knew Inhumans would be bad from the first trailer. Defenders was built up to across five seasons of four shows, and while Iron Fist was bad, people were far more hyped for it than Inhumans. Inhumans was worse but Defenders was more disappointing

    I love "Terra Nova", "Heroes Reborn", "Blockbuster", "The Defenders", "Secret Invasion" and "The Idol" - and I regret NOTHING.
    Well... technically I regret watching some of them, but not for the mentioned reasons... The reason is that some of these shows end on cliffhanges (some fairly major ones) and I will never get to see them continue...
    And "overhyped" is THE key word here: Whoever overhyped these shows doomed them. People got too high expectations and when the shows couldn't fulfill them, they were disappointed. Without the overhype, at least some, if not all, of these shows would've been received way better. Especially when it's a sequel (e.g. Heroes Reborn) or a follow-up/tie-in (e.g. The Defenders).
    I haven't seen the others.

    • @henrikgm654
      @henrikgm654 24 дні тому

      I would have loved it if most tv shows that ends on cliffhangers would at least be able to release a comic that sort of ties it up. This shouldn't be too expensive, and I guess there's enough fans of almost any show that would easily enough cover the cost

      It's a little misrepresentation to say the Neftlix shows did anything than happen to show up at the same time. MCU wasn't really a thing back then and had no real plan like it did in the late 20-teens. As a medium it was meant to tell the story of the street level heroes from the comics, while the movies showed the big names. The Defenders were always talked about, but after years of individual shows they kind of just bleh'd the implementation of it. It would have been a much tighter concept to have the intro series for Luke Cage/DD/JJones all run at the same time, then go Defenders when they meet the Iron Fist and Punisher.

    Blockbuster should have been set in the 90’s. There could have been such a fun nostalgic factor. The Idol is one of the worst shows EVER! It was cringe, disgusting, and arrogant in the most laughable way possible. I’m not a Euphoria fan but Sam Levinson pushed back his hit shows next season for that trash….arrogance is a hell of a drug

    Blockbuster was doomed from the start. They could've had it set during its heyday, but did the stupid thing and set it closer to the modern day, and that just killed any nostalgia interest before it even got off the ground.
    I am still sad that Defenders didn't get any more to it than it did. It had the potential to go places, but just ended up being a beat-em-up series.

    About most of these it would only just be an exaggeration to say I never once heard of them. For the ones I have actually watched, either the subject or the reaction is not described accurately in the video.
    Like with most things Marco Polo was described by media outlets as a rip off of (surprise, surprise) Game of Thrones, quite a few shows had been slandered in this way, (Black Sails) and people complained that its title character was the least interesting part. Which was true. Whether or not the criticisms were fair, nobody said Season 2 was an improvement at the time, maybe you got this from Rotten Tomato scores. Idk.
    Heroes was famously only good for one season, and nobody was hyped for Reborn. People exaggerated how bad it was after release, being much better than most seasons of Heroes, but obviously failing to live up to the quality of its first season's high bar.
    It makes perfect sense for Defenders to have the lowest viewership. There is always runoff. Each show is going to have solo fans, and fans who watch them all. Defenders is only for people who watched them all. Post Defenders was like being in an alternate universe because the most common reaction was actually "It's GREAT!" at the time. Even though it was objectively *terrible.* Not mediocre. Terrible.

    Fear the Walking Dead should be on this list, that show was horrible. Smoke coming out of every bush for no reason. And if it wasn't coming out of bushes, it was the entire background of the set. It's almost like smoke and fog was one of the characters. The later seasons were particularly bad.

    This list was about half Netflix shows and it probably could have entirely been Netflix shows if they wanted. Terra Nova is a show I personally never watched back in the day just for its name, shared the same name as a terrible Star Trek Enterprise episode that came out about a decade before with Brannon Braga attached to both. I assumed it was going to be similar to that terrible episode and learned it was some dinosaur show well after it had aired.

    Best sit com of the last 10 years? Easy, it was Santa Clarita Diet. With a few notable exceptions, my wife & I aren't big fans of US sitcoms, and she pretty much never laughs at anything, but we watched SCD right through 3 times and were both constantly in stitches! We were devestated when we heard it had been cancelled. If you haven't seen it give it a try

    I think maybe whatculture is part of the hype industry and they assumed I watched things because they heard the hype. Or believed it. I dunno.
    Also my list of overhyped crap would include things like Last Man Standing, How I met your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory. Those shows were all garbage but I had to see one episode to realize that, then thank my luck I never watched any more.
