    A review video with only 4 minutes 25 seconds of length? Nice thank you, no unnecessary talking and so on. Straight to the point!

    I went to my local REI this week and saw a returned Pocket Rocket Deluxe in untouched condition. The customer complaint was "the igniter does not work", I got it for $35 bucks because I recognize that its a great product and brand. Brought it home and unscrewed the wind lid. I saw the igniter black wire inside of the cylinder body was
    WAY too low at the bottom. I pushed that wire up with a screw driver and slide the plastic tube ontop of the igniter wire and screwed everything back together. Fired right up!

    I actually CAN fit a 110g canister AND the PRD in my Toaks 750ml pot. If you use the jet boil canister stand in the bottom and place the canister upside down, it works great.
    I’ve got a video on my channel detailing this system exactly. I camp at elevation at low temps so this is my go-to system. Cheers! 🤙🏽

    I use my Pocket Rocket Deluxe in many different environments like the alps and Scotland and this peace never had an issue. One of my permanent use item. Best regards from Germany

    I love the Windmaster since it's also wind resistant, has a piezo ignitor, and the triflex detectable pot stand is light and allows it to fit inside small titanium cups (Toaks 750ml fit perfectly with 100g canister, 650ml fits but the lid props up a little).

      yea, the msr is good, but I just think the wind master is better value.

    Very similar to the Soto Windmaster. Both are great stoves 😎👍 Nice review!

    I just bought the Pocket Rocket 2 today, it was on sale at REI for less than $40, I have been waiting for months for it to go on sale.

    Just bought one and also referred to your first review of this stove when it was still new to the market. Thanks for sharing your long term review! Now, I’m convinced that I made the right choice 🤩

    I lucked out and found one for $30 on Craigslist 6 months ago. It has been a fantastic little stove. The funny thing is that I've read in a few forums about folks having trouble with the piezo igniter, saying the the Soto brand does better with igniters; I have a Soto Amicus as well and the igniter on the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe has been hands-down more reliable. I often have to hit the igniter 4-5 times on the Amicus in colder/windier conditions, whereas with the MSR I typically get ignition on the first or second strike. Love the Amicus for its compact and lightweight advantages, but the MSR is clearly the better performing stove.

    How would you recommend choosing between the PRD and PR2?
    Is the extra money for the Deluxe worth it?

  • @curtis.strange
    @curtis.strange 2 роки тому +2

    I picked one of these up a few weeks ago and the igniter broke on my second trip. Had to return it (no problem) but the replacement also had a build quality issue with the fuel line. I wasn't expecting so many build quality issues from MSR but hopefully 3rd time is the charm. I'm avoiding the Soto Windmaster for now because it only seems to be available via amazon in Canada, but I might get desperate if the PRD fails me yet again. I'd like to see a direct comparative review from ya if you haven't already.

    Different strokes for Different folks as far as what might be considered the best camping stoves. I tried the MSR Whisperlite ( How can they call it " Whisper " ). Then a Pocket Rocket , gave both of them away. Went back to the alcohol stoves and wood burners or what I like to call my quiet stoves. Alcohol for wet days and wood burners ( Firebox titanium ) for the rest. I hammock camp so I never run out of fuel for the wood burner. Unlike a buddy who's stove had a gas leak and all he had was a empty cylinder. He found that slowing down and enjoying life can be fun.

    • @GypsyGirl317
      @GypsyGirl317 Рік тому

      I love the alcohol stoves, however here in NZ 🇳🇿 we are not allowed open flames in the high risk fire seasons, so we are obliged to use cannisters.
      I'm 65 and I have never yet had any problems with my gas cannisters. 🙆🏻‍♀️😁🏕️

      What does hammock camping have to do with fuel unless you’re chopping up the tree that just supported your hammock 🤔

  • @GetUpTheMountains

    This is a good stove, but mine has fallen apart at the burner and putting it back together has meant the piezo electric starter is no longer functioning. If you look top down into the burner you''ll see a metal difuser disk. That has a couple layers of mesh screen below it, and a tube for the piezo igniter wire to flow up. It's all held in place by 3 indents in the windscreen which in theory hold the burner together. It can totally pop out of that winscreen and you're left holding a pile of parts that used to be a burner. Still prefer it over my buddy's non-regulated stove that seems to puke out a flame rather than having it be nice and even.

    • @jonsanford2515

      I’ve considered upgrading to either this stove, or the windmaster, so I’ve watched a lot of comparisons and resd s lot of reviews. The two are very similar. From what I can tell the major differences are:
      Windmaster is a little higher btu, the pot sits just a little closer to the burner so it’s slightly better in wind, the pot stand is a little wider which is nice if you use a larger pot, the piezo igniter has a lower fail rate, and it’s a little less expensive. The biggest complaint is that the pot stand isn’t attached, so you can lose it, and it doesn’t pack as well.
      PR Deluxe has attached pot stand, is a little shorter overall, making it feel slightly less tippy with small fuel cans, and is easier to fine tune for simmering, etc.
      Seems like Windmaster is a slightly better performing stove but PRD has the attached pot stand.

    I have the original pocket rocket and I am going on the PCT in 2024. I am looking for wind protection a d low temp usage for the Sierra.
    It’s between this and the wind master but reviews show some issues with fuel flow

    I think we underestimate how wind affects stove performance, as your test shows. I'd love to see the fan test with the pocket rocket vs the deluxe. I feel like the deluxe design is superior and I wonder if they'll make a pocket rocket 3 with that design. I kind of regret buying the pocket rocket 2 instead of the soto amicus for that reason.

    It’s a very good stove but a blatantly takes it’s design queues from the Soto Windmaster which is lighter, more powerful and more wind resistant. It’s the one piece of kit that is any ever present in my gear load out.

    Had to watch how to use this video of the stove being used because the lousy instructions don't say what direction to turn the flame adjuster valve and the illustrations for turning is the same whether shutting off or turning open! We are trying to get familiar with it without actually puncturing a fuel cannister. Amazes me that they sell this thing without any fuel! I assumed it was clockwise to shut off and counterclockwise to open the valve. My wife assumed the exact opposite. Watching this, I am right, just like a water spigot. But you completely gloss over flame adjustment in your commentary! Arrggh!
