    This is probably the video where the guitars sounded the best from all the videos I've watched so far from Andertons/Chappers, etc. And I've watched quite few over the years. No Kidding. Matt's guitar, in particular, sounded just fucking SICK. Really surprised with the Marshall DSL40C and the little MXR pedal combination. Hummm, now I have GAS...

    • @SakariKempas
      @SakariKempas 8 років тому +1

      +Jubel Thomas That'd be interesting, but the only way to hit that with a budget is to find a great guitar in the budget, that Line 6/Bogner amplifier that did the Mesa thing sort of good (for Tremonti), a chorus, flanger and a delay. Depending on the era of DT, maybe even a phaser as well.

    • @koolguy4u77777
      @koolguy4u77777 8 років тому

      Sakari Kempas yup totally agree with you! it would be very challenging indeed to do sub 1000 pounds! but im sure matt and bea will be able to pull it off perfectly with their vast knowledge plus m very sure they are DT fans as well :)

    • @koolguy4u77777
      @koolguy4u77777 8 років тому +3

      however they could use a sterling by ernie ball JP signature for guitars which sounds amazing and well kinda low budget as compared to the majesty or normal BFR stuff. but the amp and effects would be hard indeed but im sure they will figure it out :)

    • @SakariKempas
      @SakariKempas 8 років тому

      Jubel Thomas The Sterling JP could be good, I know that they couldn't use EBMM stuff, that's why I said a great budget guitar. But it nearly takes half of the budget, if we're talking about 1500 GBP.

    • @koolguy4u77777
      @koolguy4u77777 8 років тому

      Joseph Williams
      Tom Morello has used tons of equipment throughout his career, but his signature sound is all about a strat and a les paul plugged into a Marshall JCM 800 and a few effects on the pedalboard. I'd go with a whammy, delay, and a flanger/phaser to capture the essential tones on the bugdet. There's a three-part video where Tom shows a couple of his tones. Hope it helps!

    I've seen so many people hate on the DSL40C, i dont get it. Im gonna be looking to get an Amp and a guitar for a £1000 budget soon and i have no idea what amp to go for. Not many guitar shops near me either.

    • @blackhaulmike
      @blackhaulmike 7 років тому

      Only problem is shared EQ, I like my cleans with boosted mids and it doesn't really work with drive channel. Othervise it's great amp. Sounded great even with my old £100 strat, which is suprisingly decent guitar.

    • @ianalderman9290
      @ianalderman9290 7 років тому

      I steered a UA-camr toward purchasing a DSL40C over a Silver Jubilee combo, in the meantime I had to downgrade my amp, now I'm looking and can't decide between the DSL40C and the Orange CR60c. Haven't been torn between amps like this before! I like the Marshall tones here and in the Sound Like Tool video more than the DSL review that Anderton's did when the DSL's first came out in 2012. Ugh!!!!!! Not a big fan of shared EQ myself, but that's just about the only niggle I've got against the Marshall. Have you two compared the Marshall and Orange mentioned? I feel like my head is going to explode!

    • @blackhaulmike
      @blackhaulmike 7 років тому +1

      I haven't compared them but since that Orange isn't valve, I'd go for Marshall. Also, I prefer Marshall's "clean" sound over anything.

    Next time please don't play in Drop D ... it sounds really weird. Mastodon use DGCFAD, CGCFAD and AGCFAD.
    I still really dig your videos, great stuff.

      +JackCarver10 AGCFAD? That's a really weird tuning. Does it have a name? Why would you ever have an interval of a 7th between strings?

    • @josephbrandenburg4373
      @josephbrandenburg4373 8 років тому

      Also, the way I understand it is Rabea always plays by ear, so I'm guessing he didn't look up the tabs.

      +Joseph Brandenburg Ask that the guitarists of Mastodon, they did it. It sounds good to playing the low octaves. No need for power chords.

    • @josephbrandenburg4373
      @josephbrandenburg4373 8 років тому

      Makes sense, I guess they got used to playing power chords the regular way, not all drop-tuned. So they wanted to play octaves the same way.

    Great job! As a suggestion, I would love to see a Souns Like Opeth video. They have a unique sound where they're constantly interchanging between clean and heavy sounds, not to mention some awesome riffs.

    I would definitely NOT call Mastodon thrash metal, they all loved sludge metal and ended up creating some progressive sludge metal riffage \m/

      +ACDC1998Zippo That would be cool, though unlike with most bands, they'd need to include the bass guitar to really nail the overall sound.

    nice video guys, great tone! it's quite funny, because when I saw them live, Brent was actually using a Les Paul (his V kept breaking down) and Bill used an Explorer for most of the songs. Bill has a killer silverburst Les Paul, too

  • @KeithHagel

    Nice to see the Goth Explorer get a bit more love. It's been my main since I first got it, satin finish is fantastic, and it's a decent modding rig. Threw some Burstbuckers in mine and had someone make me a white pickguard and some block inlay stickers and it looks and plays fantastic.
