This video had some good points but I think it’s rare to find someone with a significant online platform to not receive backlash at some point. In comparison to other scandals I’ve seen online through you-tubers and influencers, this group of people seem pretty harmless. I grew up watching them and thoroughly enjoyed their content.
I’m close friends with Casper lee and a couple of his friends since we grew up in the same area and I remember speaking to him last year about why he let his career die and he said it was because he got bundled together with the other gleam creators he felt that his identity was being lost and that he was becoming just another cookie cutter vlogger that’s why he got bored of UA-cam
it could be my ruined attention span, but the majority of 30+ minute videos that are dense with information I can't get through, so I do tend to like these 6 to 10 minute videos, cutting the fat and straight to the point
I don't think they did anything majorly wrong they just never evolved their content and it got stale and their fan base grew up. In contrast, the Sidemen for instance have evolved and grown their content and production and managed to stay at the top and more relevant than ever.
I agree - surprised this wasn’t the core/main reason mentioned. They didn’t evolve/evolve with the times. Their channels dying was around a period where people wanted ‘real’ down yo earth content aswell… in contrast to the brit and usa crew that felt insincere/out of touch with reality.

I picked up an injury around the time of the success of these channels mentioned in the video, I was off work for the best part of a year due to a surgery, plus recovery time, and found myself watching a lot of them. Particularly FunForLouis, but once you realise it was just a bunch of privileged white people being paid to travel the world and go on expensive holidays, the novelty quickly wore off and then I forgot about all of the people in this video once I returned to my own life

In the UK now, rather than being like the traditional Liberal left (civil liberties, free speech, workers rights, racial and gender equality etc), they so badly want to be like the American neo liberals (authoritarian, racial and cultural segregation, puritanical, limiting civil discourse, funneling information, the merger of state and corporation to control the populace etc). Rather than view individuals on their merits or characteristics, they prefer to highlight things like race or gender as indicators of systemic advantages. Broad and vapid generalisations are very common from the now US mk.2 progressive left in this country. Try not to have your own thoughts or question the narrative, they will label you as damaged goods and try to ruin your life. That's why I left the new left, they are Liberal in name only.
Honestly their situation is a case of changing trends and the audience appealing more to authenticity, which is something the Brit Crew lacked. Of course the scandals didn’t help, they are mostly in burnout stages and in general their videos haven’t aged well but I think they were experiencing the downfall even before this.

He’s the dad of The Ingham Family, he tried to chat up a 16 year old in Florida and asked her to skinny dip in 2017, there are many other cases of inappropriate behaviour towards young girls in other conversations with him too, he was exposed in 2018 and he made a response video a month later, just practically lying through his teeth that he did nothing wrong. Then started throwing solicitor letters to everyone to keep ‘em “quiet” and his wife knew all along that he was doing this, this isn’t the first time, he’s been doing this way before their career as well. She doesn’t seem to care and seems to enjoy enabling his behaviour more than actually being concerned about it; google his name and you’ll find a lot of information on this man; his behaviour is downright not appropriate and I think spreading awareness will let others steer clear of their content and know who he is.
Great video but you missed out the people that influenced the gleam crew to start. Charlieissocoollike, Alex Day and even Carrie Fletcher were OG's in the British vlogger scene before zoella and casper Lee even thought to pick up a camera 😂
I like joe he seems to still be in the mainstream on tv since strictly and if i remember correctly didnt he do the new years eve count down on bbc 1 either last year or the year before?
Started out as a bunch of happy, fun loving 20 year olds in the right place at the right time but just became more and more unrelatable as their fame and affluence grew. Can't blame them for taking advantage of the situation they were in though and anyone else would have done the same. Don't imagine any of them care all that much at this point, they earned enough in those few short years to set them up for life.

My partner and I used to watch these guys then we realised they don’t do anything. They have no interests and the content is the definition of mind numbing.
I think that at the time they was the girl / boy next door, the more successful they got the more they lost touch. Granted they were always middle class, living In Brighton but It was nice seeing them In there midteens and going about their day. They basically became multi millionaires, and became basically the same people and well became boring.
