Have you ever stopped for a second, and thought about just what it takes to be a billionaire? Let’s take it a step further, how about just what it takes to be one of the richest people in the world, up there with the likes of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett? We can tell you, it doesn’t mean that you have hundreds of billions of dollars lying around. In fact, quite the contrary. Most billionaires keep a surprisingly small amount of their net worth in cash! What we’re saying is, if Jeff Bezos wanted to go out, right now, and spend all of his massive 181 billion dollar fortune… he couldn’t do it. No, literally, he could not spend it! That’s because he only holds 5% of his net worth in liquid assets. AKA, cash. If you think that’s wild, get this-- the average billionaire only keeps one percent of their wealth in spendable cash! So… what’s the deal here? How can someone be a billionaire… without actually having one billion dollars lying around for them to spend, any time that they would like to? Time for a little finance 101, as we talk about where billionaires are actually keeping all of their wealth! We’ll tell you up front, it’s a mix of a lot of places, from real estate, to stocks, to bonds, to ownership of companies, to even Bitcoin! Well, with regards to Bitcoin, that hasn’t received widespread adoption by the billionaires of the world, yet. ... YET!

I’m still confused about where he actually keeps that. Banks will only accept up to 250,000 before they can’t insure it anymore.
@@gilgamesh310 I'm sure they make exceptions for wealthy clients and also depends on the bank. Mayweather said he kept 100,000,000 in a single bank account at one point.

I thought of this recently in depth. This is what wealth tax doesn't work but average people doesn't understand it
Among other reasons. The public are under the illusion Jeff Bezos has 100 billion in his bank. It’s hilarious, ignorance has gone to far this time.
Even worse reason is the fact if it worked the way they hoped, businessmen would slowly go extinct lmao, then socialism comes into play. Britain is a good example, although we have a lot of capitalism in major cities we have a lot more socialism, free money, housing everywhere else because of how bad it has gotten here.

It makes sense for wealthy individuals to not have much cash available, considering that cash(currency) is worthless. It makes a lot of sense to instead have assets AKA properties and have your money tied into accounts making you even more money, with only a fraction set aside for spending. That’s how the wealthy get wealthy, stay wealthy and become wealthier.

True
They are billionaires
Stocks and cryptocurrency isn't liquid because you have to cashout first to see the money. So if your billion dollar stock falls to nothing you can't cashout anything. 🤷🏾♂️
You can easily cash them out/sell to get cash so they're considered liquid assets. It's kinda like saying cash in a savings account isn't a liquid asset because the bank could be closed when u want to withdraw $30k & the ATM can only give $500.

@@akidoalleyne7983 we have 8 billionaires.
This is a simple explanation, but its too simple. It glosses over the reality of how these people manage their money. They don't spend their own cash, as in they don't use debit on their bank accounts. While bank accounts are used to hold some cash, the vast amount of their spending is through ELOCs on their assets. They spend on credit lines from the private banking arms of major banks. These are usually extremely low interest.

You did not talk about Elon Musk.
One of the reasons why they keep such a small part of their net worth in cash is because of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar. While they have money in the bank, that money will be worth less everybyear, even though the number may stay the same..

Stop saying "stocks" when theyre called "shares". A stock is a company you invest in, and a share is a piece of the company. You own shares of a company, not stocks of a company.
The correct term is stock, specifically common stock. Shares is more correctly applied to ownership in mutual funds. You have stock (be that common or perfered) in a corporation; you have shares in a mutual fund.
Refrain from defining terms you don't have a full understanding of.
@@Gomangoman11 Not sure where you got that from but thats totally incorrect. You can say "I have stock in ______" but saying "I have 3 stocks in ______" makes no sense. A stock is a ticker. A share is a piece of a company. I know what im talking about

Banks only insure up to 250K so it would be very risky to park their money there 🤔
No they ensure 100 million usually
Yeah, but there are some wealthy people who don’t care
@@Keralasha444 No, they insure 250K by law here in the US. But that's per account per institution. The idea of having 1 Billion in cash is to have money on hand to spend if necessary. He has to be ok with how inflation eats at it but he probably doesn't have it all in one bank.
You buy short term US Treasury Bonds. That's what US Treasury Bonds are for. As a substitute for banks for large sums of money.
Institutions treat short term US Treasuries as cash (cause you are backed by the 'full faith of the US Govt').
