Good demo. Might want to add that an Orange Pro Crush amp has a pretty good doomy tone to it as well as a stoner tone to it. It's a solid state so it will cost less than the tube amps.
Good video. I recently picked up an Orange OR15 and it’s amazing for doom. I’m a big fan of hyperfuzz type pedals, though I know that’s not for everyone. The only muff I have is an NYC Big Muff and I can’t get a tone out of it I like, it sounds so flat and muffled, like 100% of the mids are gone.
Only way i really use a muff is as a boost. Crank the volume, turn the tone knob all the way off and just a tiny bit of the sustain. Of course i was usually doing that with green and black russians
I been wanting to pick up a a Laney AOR for a while now before the prices go crazy as well as a Laney GH100L. They're still relatively affordable as far as full size vintage tube heads go and the GH series is basically Laney's take on a hot rod JCM800. The Ampeg V4 is another cheap hidden gem used by Qotsa and also the misfits I'm surprised those are still so cheap. It's funny Peavey decade prices are insane because of Qotsa but the Ampegs they used primarily are still super under the radar 😂
I picked up a gh50r or l recently. The one opeth used it was amazing for 15 minutes before it died on em and i had to return it. I plan on getting that again someday
@@TheDistortionPrinciple that sucks, definitely give one another try someday. Another cool similar amp is the Ampeg VL series, theyre unreliable unless you get em modded but both the VL and GH are just JCM800 clones with an extra gain stage. If you want a super loud clean amp get a Non master volume ampeg v4. Theres also the rare Ampeg v5 is a straight up 800 clone!
How about a $200 Marshall Valvestate VS100, $30 DOD Boneshaker, and a $40 Joyo Splinter. Throw in a free Digitech Death Metal if needed. And a 2002 Epiphone Goth LP.
I normally use my RV 100 MKIII for doom. Recently though, I discovered that the EF86 front end of my Dr Z Z28 mkii with some fuzz is KILLLLLER for doom. Who would have thought...
I have a Orange PPC112 cab with a Celestion V30. Is it suitable for home/recording, maybe the odd gig, in your opinion? Is there a head you'd recommend (Orange or other?). I have a micro terror, but wanted to upgrade. Thanks man, great video!
@@InhalerOfTheRifftree1000k total? A laney aor 30 combo or head can be found typically under 500 so that leaves you 500 for a 212 cab. Definitely doable. The th30 amps are a 30 watt version on pepper keenans p and i thonk those can be found for aroud 700 still. Of course these are used prices. Also dont sleep on the orange super crush amps. Another good one is the marshall origin. The caveat there is if you crank the master the effects loop sounds like shit
@TheDistortionPrinciple Thank you SO much! That's really helpful. I'm not a HUGE fx loop guy, but it's definitely a plus. Especially with this kind of genre lol Said it before, but; love the channel/content. Looking forward to whatever's next!
I would have used a cheaper muff style but didn't have one. A green reissue is 100 and a rat is around 60. So both could be had for a pretty great price. Theres something so satisfying for me when i use fuzzes as a boost. Really dig the character. Thanks for watching!
Guitar into pedalboard into aor. Set the aor bluesey crunchy and did a few passes in each speaker. So a black arts priestess, rat and an hm2 on each side. Direct into captor and cabm for IR

Yep crazy i forgot that one!
Great video as always
Thanks!

Try an overdrive or eq pedal before the muff
Sounds killer man! This is a cool vid that'll get folks thinking about stuff. The sticker bombed EC is gnarly too.
Thanks!
Man that sounds great.
That old ass 80s amp is a tone beast

I’m digging the shirt
Thanks! Theres a link in the description if you would like one
You never disappoint bro. How about a Distortion Principle shirt with on the back 'tune low play slow'
Same image on front or just the channel name?
@@TheDistortionPrinciple not sure? needs something with 'doom' in it on the front

Both great amps as well!
Happy Easter
Same to you dude!

Would be great at home. For gigging depending yiu may wannaove up to a 212 at least. Maybe try an orange th30? Or ohhh find an old laney aor 30!
@@TheDistortionPrinciple Anything around the under to $1000 mark? Sorry lol thanks again!

Seems a bit overkill to use pricey fuzz pedals as simple boosts, but to each their own - can't argue with the end result.
