Kinda true, vs multiple attackers positioning is the most important thing, but not the only one. Also there's the principle of alignment, if they come for you, you move around is such way to align them one behind another and take them down one by one starting with the front one in the row. Also in crisis situations find a wall and put your back to the wall so they can't come from your back and take you down.

In past videos he stated this. He said to take on one of them and move to keep him between you and the other attacker. In this video guys have knives, but i remember Nick teaching this in some multiple attackers with no knives videos, too m.ua-cam.com/video/zXP1DTKG1Ng/v-deo.html

Put your back to the wall against multiple attackers? That’s deathwish, it limits your mobility, and power in your strikes and if they pin you to the wall (and probably will) your screwed but i agree with the rest of your comment

Correct. And try to take out the biggest one first when positioning works in your favor.

Nice use of angling so you can see them all and create space. Nice use of palm strikes to face and jaw too. And quick footwork. Also nice to see your arms and hands are already up when talking, like in your sucker punch video. Thank you for reminding to look at theirs hands for weapons too.

As a veteran of the streets, a proficient & moderately trained, well studied, practiced, skilled & experienced MMA/street fighter, amongst all them folks one meets along that path, often & traditionally, the duty of defense had fallen upon me. I wouldn't expect someone to believe the stories I can tell but others can tell them. If surrounded and you know you will need to fight your way out you have plenty of options. If the big guy or seemingly toughest guy is doing the talking they are likely your best target. An upper cut of focused accuracy and focused strength can lay that one out. Move forward while doing so as to make space from those behind you or in a direction where you have most space. Also, one can defend from behind just after or even during your assault on the big guy with a back kick, spinning back kick or spinning back fist. You'll need aggression, skill and confidence to manage this. Be careful kicking when facing multi foes though, as it is far too easy to be found off balance. Reserve the kick for when you have space, opportune moment or a position where enemies are all in front and at least semi lined up. Try not as much for striking hard, (though never pass the moment just make sure another cannot attack you while striking effective as it only takes one good or even decent shot to make for a very bad day), but more for the ability to continue moving. Block, jab, knee and if skilled enough, 1)small, short, low, speed kicks, maybe even a 2) front kick or straight kick, even a good 3)side kick but that is getting increasingly risky (riskier as in 1 easier, 2 moderate 3 moderate plus and requiring space for sake of balance lost and time to regain movement). Stay moving, look for objects to break the space and distance, cars, garbage cans, fire hydrants, anything. Bide your time, seek the moment. Given time you will find advantage. Use a knee, elbow, whatever but on your time and with sufficient space from the others. Throat chop and eye poke works well here as simple easy fast usage to reduce opposers. Always, if you know fighting is only option, strike first, true, hard and effective. If allowed, think before hand, survey the area, look for defensive and space breaking objects. Think about your first, attack & focus on it well before striking, put your most will power into in preferably when they expect it not. Stay calm, always keep your head about you and never ever, under any circumstances, never ever, let them get you to the ground as you do not know what may happen especially if you initially had success for it may cause pride of opponents to over react and become incredibly malicious. To the honest, good people out there, stay training, always be prepared and if possible & capable try to defend those that cannot defend themselves, those targeted for their weakness. That is often why I have spent my own time walking in the fire, (that and ego). Thanks for listening. Good luck.
Edit 1). Additionally, assuming there is a smaller number of multi foes, as stated (sort of) in video, the faster you can strike all opponents in rapid succession, like first 1-3 seconds of opened combat, the more likely you wont have opponents capable and/or willing to continue. For this good techniques to strike with, most commonly, are probably and depending on position and stance, but, firstly that hard heavy focus strike, throat chop, back fist, elbow and for last strikes, Knee. Kneeing can provide body distance between you and recovering assailants.

This can work with training. Best way after training to win any fight is to also be prepared mentally and then Speed and Surprise. No hesitation or you will likely lose. So Train regularly.

a good idea is training to use both your left and right at the same time, so like right elbow to person 1 and next is left jab to person 2 but it has to be quick also be willing to take a hit from person 3

    Great video,?
Got a question Nick, a lot of your videos involve diffusing the situation and saying you don’t want trouble. I believe this is a great strategy in the street ,when people you don’t know approach you, you never know if they have a gun or a knife or if they are mental ill. It is not cowardly to walk away, it’s actually being very brave. Also in this situation you have a choice, it’s not worth fighting in the street. However the problem I have is, what happens when you are going to school/ work and there are people bullying you. You don’t have a choice to walk away because you see these people on a regular basis. What strategies can you use to stand up to them and show them you are not weak ?

    • @igeu6150
      @igeu6150 6 років тому

all the situation that I had with a bully I decided to give a little slap in their faces while they spoke and they were finding themselves the major ones. Normally they are weak and cowards (so they walk in a group) you have to show that you do not go any more tolerate this abuse in a firm, confident, intimidating way (I know I should not say that) and aggressive.

interesting points, however would disagree. the most important thing is positioning, and you should be trying to move into the least compromised position you can, and be constantly moving to prevent yourself being surrounded and seek an exit, if a surround is becoming imminent then initiate and fight your way to an exit but do not allow yourself to be in a compromised position or your survival chances and ability to disengage and escape dramatically drop.
Also i feel like you are confusing the viewer by telling them to go for the biggest threat but then demonstrating striking as many opponents as possible.
The actual key strategy to surviving multiple opponents is to use movement and positioning to try and turn it into a series of rapid one on one fights and never to be in range of more than 1 opponent at a time.
If you are surrounded and have no option of escape then should preemptively strike with a shock and awe game plan as demonstrated. where you use unexpected superior aggression and would try to hit everyone as fast and hard as possible. How ever there are 2 different schools of thought which you combined without explaining properly. These are to either focus on and take out the ring leader, in the hope that this will scare the others off. Or go berzerker and hit everyone as hard and fast as you can hopefully again scaring them off. Neither of these is the aim to win a fight but to dominate with superior aggression. This can only work if you initiate the violence, this is not counter striking or waiting for them to start the fight or show a weapon.
So the technique demonstrated in my opinion is last case scenario and need to explain that if this is your game plan (which it should not be) you must initiate combat and also decide your strategy, either take out ring leader, or attack everyone, learn the timing of
So I would say this video is not terrible and the advise is better than none, but not the way that I teach to defend against multiple opponents.
The only real way to learn to defeat multiple opponents is to train against multiple opponents and below is how to train the skills and actually practise.
First you must already be competent against a single opponent. As if you don't stand a chance or know anyway to fight a single opponent you don't stand a chance against more than 1.
Once you are ready to start training against multiple opponents start off with 2, they should feed a single punch to start off with and their job is to try to move into a position they can strike from and then strike, they are not waiting for you. Once they have done their strike they should let you block and do a 3 strike counter combo then the other should throw and you practice your set counter combo (always return 3 fast strikes in return never a single strike or you will train yourself to pause and hesitate, instead of flow).
When doing this speed is not important and start in slow motion as the most important thing is movement and positioning not your counter strikes. When engaged with one opponent always try to move so that they remain as a physical barrier between you and the other opponent. Learn also to grab an opponent and rag doll them to act as a barrier, learn to take their back learn the timing of when you need to switch opponents and learn to control the opening so that the second opponent only has the opening to attack when you are ready to respond to them. Also seek to initiate if you control the situation and to switch opponents. Remember to always do a minimum of 3 strikes before switching opponents. Never show any opponent your back, this is the most important thing to learn.
Once you understand the principles of 2 attackers move up to 3, this instantly becomes harder and more chaotic, for the attackers as they constantly cycle back in and attack again it simulates more than 3 attackers (once you train with any more people it becomes inefficient and there is no gain as the principles of dealing with 3 opponents is the same as 5 or more). Again the attack can be a single punch then stand still and let the person do their combo, however it becomes a lot more intense and difficult to maintain position when you always have 2 other opponents trying to flank and attack you. It gives you much less time to focus on any one opponent and means you constantly have to move to prevent being circled. Some people also suggest back to the wall fighting to prevent this. Another useful technique is if grabbed and controlling an opponent (while delivering strikes) is to push them into someone that is approaching you (very useful for control especially when dealing with more than 2)
Once this is comfortable and has got up to full speed and you understand how to move around and control multiple opponents in principle then the attacks can be made more complex until it becomes multiple opponent free sparing, where there is no pre planned attack they just throw whatever is available until you stop them (but would not recommend full contact except in rare pressure testing as does not train effectively any theory but is useful as a reality check but does not train or reinforce any principles). Another thing for attackers is to try to grab you or for an opponent to get behind and grab you.
Another training game that can help to an extent but should be trained last is circle of death. This is the one where the whole class stands in a circle with 1 person in the center, and random people are called and told to attack the person in the centre, starting 1 at a time then building until the person is overwhelmed. The reason for not training this first is because it is a recovery drill where you are starting in a compromised position where are having attackers coming from behind so need to know how to position and maintain position so that you try to recover to the position you were trying to achieve in the last exercise and then apply what you have practiced. People that start off with circle of death stay in the centre and then try to fight off everyone that approaches, this is not good.
Another thing to learn is situational awareness, and to avoid letting anyone take your back. I have been in multiple multi person fights and the only one where I lost was when losing track of an opponent and they took my back, and the only strike I have taken in any real multi opponent situation was when had all in front of me and someone walking past joined in by sucker punching me while I was engaging 2 opponents (there were 8 in total).
This is not an easy skill and takes hundreds of hours of correct training to develop the mental strategy required and make it natural, it is completely different to single opponent or weapon defense or anything else so needs to be trained separately if it is to be effective.
An additional training tip, go to an extreme metal gig and jump in the mosh pit. This although not a real fight and usually just pushing, trains you to react to multiple opponents coming from all directions, as well as developing rooting, tracking multiple opponents, but remember it is not a fight and do not escalate or you will quickly experience a real multiple opponent fight.
Another thing I'm not sure if i mentioned is always look for escape routes and if it doesn't compromise you, always make that the reality you try to achieve.
