  • Lots of encouraging videos on UA-cam about Chipex, and lots of slick marketing, but does it live up to the hype for what is essentially really expensive touch-up paint. My Bug needs a little tidying up, so let's give it a go and see how we get on!

    Ive used it on my black Kia Picanto. The main issue is not the product but the instructions. I got a fantastic result once I did a bit of research in how to do it properly. There's no short cuts. Also the repairs are invisible from a couple of metres away which is fine for the minimal effort imo. If you want a perfect result you have to rub it down with cutting compound and spray clearcoat on top like a professional would.

    The paint has thinners in it (this acts as a carrier) Although the paint stands proud just after touching up, the thinners evaporates which in turn have the amount of paint that has been applied. For example, if the paint is mixed to a ratio of 50:50 (paint/thinners) 50% of the thinners will evaporate to atmosphere leaving 50% of the paint, hence the shrinkage in the chip. Just science fella.

    Glad it worked for you. I bought a used Audi in mid Grey and it had a few touch ups done by the Audi dealer which were crap, blobs of paint. I ended up carefully removing them with a scalpel and used Audi touch up paint slowly building up the layers using a tooth pick. I used G3 to remove excess if I needed to. Polished car and used a ceramic wax before trading it in and garage said how good the paint work was for a 5 year old car. Just bought Chipex to try on my 1 year old car that has a couple of small chips.

      Hope you get a good result. It’s genuinely tidied up my Bug to a non noticeable standard.

    For £40 , I’d say that’s a great result… remember you know where they are but nobody else will notice … great video matey

      Thanks man. And thanks for watching. With time, practice and patience it’s infinitely better than your usual touch up pen.

    I think it looks good mate tbh, and the 15 minute wait between buffing is not long at all really. I would be very happy with results you got.

    Thanks for the honest video review. Great to see each of the steps and how they did. I have the dealer T-U paint so can probably improvise the other elements (using a toothpick, some IPA as blending). Watching you doing it gives me more confidence in what i'm doing - thanks for that. What surprises me about these things is that clear coat is never mentioned. Any idea why that might be (is the Chipex paint a blend of paint and clear coat i wonder?).

    • @AngryBritain
      @AngryBritain  Рік тому +1

      I’m guessing it has clear coat built in that the polish brings out. The repairs look ‘shiny’ if that makes sense.

    Some videos I've watched, the guy would apply the chipex, rub it with the blending fluid, then if it's not good enough, he applied it again and repeated the process until he was happy.
    Then he did the final stage of polishing. His were not by any means perfect either, but it's better than a rusting hole (pardon the pun)

    Hi. Thanks for the informative video. Is this product suitable for scratches as well?

    • @AngryBritain

      I didn’t get as good of a result on the scratch on my wheel arch, but it should certainly make them less noticeable

    I totally agree with your review.
    I bought some chipex, expecting it to meet the manufacturers claims.
    I too had a far from perfect experience, I found that it didn’t make the stone chip ‘invisible’ as claimed, my results were a carbon copy of yours, it’s quite good, but not the magic cure it’s claimed to be.

    • @UltimateTBone
      @UltimateTBone 7 місяців тому +2

      You can make it invisible, but it takes some more time. Also you should lightly sand the edges before filling the chip if you want the best result. Also it needs sometimes more layers to get the chip fully filed.

    I wonder how many have watched your review and left thinking Chipex was rubbish after your first attempt and not waited for your final thoughts, doesn’t seem fair to Chipex for you to have said it was crap twice and then change your mind at the end of the review.

    • @AngryBritain

      It's an honest review, unlike a lot who have been paid/supplied to make one about it. Not my fault if people don't watch until the end is it?

    • @thomasbroker69
      @thomasbroker69 Рік тому +3

      I think the point is fair, I get the honest review title but really it would be better if you did the repair and added comments after, that would be honest, your thoughts are fair enough during the video but seeing as the end result worked it’s not fair is it, like a lot of things we might do for the first time at least give it a try first or learn how to do it otherwise it’s not a review it’s just thoughts while having a go. Your not gonna get views unless it’s fair.

    Isopropyl alc is a good way to cheaply clean the clear coat.

  • @gbass7328
    @gbass7328 Рік тому +1

    So 3 coats or so? Was there a clear coat application done?

    • @AngryBritain
      @AngryBritain  Рік тому

      No, the paint itself is a 2 in 1, so no clear coat needed. I probably did 3-4 coats, but there were still a couple of chips that more coats still wouldn’t cover. In my experience it works great on small chips and not that well on deeper/larger ones.

    You're never going to get it perfect, the light is always going to be against you. If you buffed it with some compound, it should improve. Also, you can sand down the worse bits with high-grade sandpaper to soften to edges of the chip, buff to finish. Prep is always the key to these jobs

    "Just coming up to about 10 minutes drying time". Advice pamphlet says: "Maximum recommended drying time for the paint is 5 minutes". Good video for basic intro on how to do it but the old addage "RTFM" might have improved the experience and overall impression of how it works?

      The manual is pure bunkum that's the problem.

  • @martinmeasures829
    @martinmeasures829 3 місяці тому

    My chipex kit has just arrived so not used it yet, I'm pretty sure the instructions say to rub the blending solution in one direction, not round and round or crossvways as you did, but at least you were able to cover the bare metal metal.
    Maybe read and follow the instructions next time.

    Its a pain in the ass....left to go tacky as per videos and rubbed over as per instructions ..took all the paint off. Left to dry completely then used cloth and soluton as per instructions. No way was paint coming off without serious rubbing and pressure..

    If you start a video by saying that you aren't optimistic about it and then do a half arsed job, then you probably won't get a good result. You never got any of it flat enough and didn't bother buffing it down and you wonder why you aren't that impressed....😂
