While I love the other series of videos where you talk vlog style, I do appreciate that you kept this series to your original standards. There's just something relaxing hearing the noises of work being done. haha! Great video.
Excellent video, I just re-sealed my 200000 mile 2006 LGT PS pump, what I learned is it's best to take out the alternator to make room and then remove the pump with bracket installed, this way it can be done without opening the cooling system. Then, do all the work on the bench. I was paranoid the whole time about losing the internal pieces, and on my pump i ended up pushing the seal in a tiny bit too far too, luckily I got it back together without missing or putting in stuff backward. Only problem I had was foaming due to pinched suction oring on the top hose, easy fix, all good now. Thanks! 😁
Your videos are honestly the best, I've found them to be so helpful but also therapeutic. Going to order the rebuild kit now and get started next weekend.
Thanks for the video. I'm about to rebuild a salvaged one and throw it on. The slot on the bracket where it goes up and down seemed to be too short but I just used dollar belts from the salvage lots but I got a new belt and plenty of room now. I was going to file it out too.
@@MrSubaru1387 Was that the new GoPro? Had me fooled. Super sharp picture and didn't have that classic wide angle gopro look that they seem to have in every resolution setting.
Hey man we talk a while back about a car I had trouble with it was a ecu swap 05 outback it was calling for a wrong vin landed up it never was the ecu I swap the block with a 98 ej25 block and never changed the crank sprocket 😯 thanks for the help tho lol
Most every Subaru I’ve seen sure has the alternator on the top that must be because they fail all the time so they want quick access 😂 worked on my 13 today cleaned the MAF and throttlebody, put in a new air filter too..
I haven't had those components go bad on me, but it's super convenient to have them on the top. After working on 3 different types of Subaru's for the last 3 years I can say they've ruined me for ever getting a different type of vehicle in the car class. My truck is GMC but that's only because Subaru won't get off there ass and make a flat 8 full size truck lol 😂
Love that they are always on top. PS Pump, Alternator and AC Compressor. Easy access is amazing! Especially when my Alternator died in my work parking lot. Was able to replace it on my lunch break and get home same day.
@@tomhammond89 haha! exactly. A friend brought his Civic over to work on the idler pulley or something attached to the belt system. The wheel, wheel liner and a ton of other stuff had to come off just to replace the belt and pulley. So spoiled with Subaru! haha.
How do I determine which re-seal kit would would for my pump? When I look up 2004 forester xt I see 2 different kits on the internet, one with only rubber gaskets and another with a metal gasket.
I picked up za pump from the junk yard to rebuild as mine is leaking. With having everything apart Would it be a good idea to replace the bearing? Also is there an o-ring that sits in between the pump and reservoir in the groove? I do have the small one that goes on the tip of the reservoir but wasn't sure if there was another. Thank you for these.
After rebuilding and reinstalling pump the PS pump pulley is about 1/4" forward. This assembly is pretty fixed on it's mount and cannot go back any more. I might assume that the pulley is not all the way on, but it appears to be very close to the body and the nut was torqued. Any guess what gives?
Hi Mr Subaru! What did you use to clean up the spilled PS fluid?? And what is a good general cleaner safe to spray like that in the engine bay? I live in a dry dusty dirty part of NV and have a terribly dirty engine bay that I would love to clean. It makes all the general maintenance SO much easier! Also, I have the older style PS pump reservoir with the four bolts, how the heck do I do a fluid change on that bugger? Thanks in advance!
Have you ever seen a need to replace the internal bearing on these? My replacement pump on my 02 wrx is leaking not even 2 years later, thinking of rebuilding the original pump with all new stuff. Wondering if I should press a new bearing onto the shaft, didn't feel much in the way of play or noise
Currently doing this job on my 97 Legacy GT 2.5L. How necessary is the precise torquing on the bolts? I don't think I have a torque wrench immediately handy and am wondering if I'll have to borrow my mom's car to go rent one before I can be done.
i have a question please: do you think that just the internal o rings,on any pump, when they set/deform can make the pump deliver less pressure, and make for a hard steering? i have a weak pump (i tried with another one and it's all good) that i opened, the o rings all have a set,i wonder it it's worth replacing just them, all hard parts look ok
Great video. I had a question: After I remove the dowel pins from the engine block, how do I reinsert them in place again? Do I tap them in again with a hammer? How far in do they go? Do I reuse the dowels I removed? Thanks a bunch.
Mr. Subaru if you could do a rebuild vid for a 2005 impreza rs power steering pump with the pressure switch at the back. That would be most appreciated....
Excellent job! Have you done one on a 2005 Steering pump? I see the replacement orings online but without the gasket. Thanks for all those awesome videos.
I have an 03 WRX, it has the pump with a separate reservoir. It's leaking from the bottom spring type casing bolt. How can I fix it? Already rebuilt the pump with Subaru OEM kit, but the 30mm still bleeds red.
I have a 2005 Baja Turbo, in the FSM it omits the exploded diagram for the P/S pump on the turbo model, and goes on to say that this pump (34430AE150) "cannot be disassembled." As such I haven't been able to find any sort of seal repair kit as shown in your video. I was hoping you could shed some light on why the turbo has a different pump than the NA / why it's apparently not serviceable? I'd love to do this repair on my baja because AE150 is discontinued, and I'm not sure I trust aftermarket remans if subaru themselves says the pump can't be repaired.
Ok I'm in a bit of a bind... I have a 2002 forester pump I'm resealing, and there is a tiny rubber "stick" about 2mm diameter, 12mm length. WHERE DID IT COME FROM!? The old one literally fell out of the pump when I opened it up. And was brittle AF, like the rest of the old seals. HALP?! I can't find a 2002 pump diagram anywhere!
Would this process be similar enough on an 04 Subaru? I have a noisy power steering system, and I've already replaced the notorious O ring, and the leaking pressure hoses, so I'm thinking this is next.
Do you recommend using threadlocker on any of the bolts or in general? @15:31 what is the punch you used to remove the bearing? Is there an alternate tool you could use? @18:11 can you elaborate? Is it just oriented front to back or rotationally? Do you have an amazon affiliate link for PS gaskets and hoses on an EJ25? Thanks, I love the channel.
Super jealous of your long 3/8 ratchet. I can see it being super helpful in a lot of circumstances. When I got mine I went for the regular one 😔. Have you tried those magnet extensions that go into the socket? I've looked at them but wasn't sure if they were worth the cost.

Man this is giving me a headache. I recently installed a new power steering pump on my 04 Legacy.
