@@Magma_Seb I never got the hate against him in RE7. Well, he's not the best character in the world, but 0 personality? I don't know. And it's not like Resident Evil up until now has been super fantastic in terms of characterization and depth of the characters, you know, and this comes from someone who loves most of the classic characters. But they've been mostly kinda "boring" personality wise, specially in the first few games. After playing and finishing RE8, there's no doubt that Ethan is easily one of the best characters in the series. Like, in terms of actual character development, depth and all. Duke: Mr. Winters. I'm afraid you can't return to your old world any longer.... Are you ready? Ethan: Yeah. I have to be.... Edit: thanks for the likes everyone.
I don't know why but when Duke said that it gave me chills, and when Ethan answered with a mix of fear and determination, it was the moment I really started loving his character (I liked him before, but this ending omg)
i dont cry over video games, but god, resident evil village had me sobbing. i felt so bad for Ethan. he went through absolute hell to save and protect his family, he doesn’t care what happens to him. to Ethan, all that matters is that his family is safe. i sobbed some more when i realized rose (at the end) is wearing his jacket.
This game has cemented Ethan Winters as my favorite RE protagonist. Yeah he isnt cool or over the top like Leon or Chris and the others. But one thing Ethan has in spades is he's all heart. He went though hell and back for his loved ones twice. And after finishing this game five times, i always let the whole ending playout. Todd Soley, Ethan's voice/mocap actor killed it when delivering that line "Goodbye Rosemary." so well i actually started to cry. Him standing infront of the Megamycete breathing hard as he detonated the bomb sounded so real. Probably my favorite acting in the whole series.
The ending of this game made me get the chills. And then this song... wow. Go Tell Aunt Rhody, Saudade and now this. I love that each new RE game has its own song
in this years horror games have been producing beautiful credit themes: resident evil 7 with "Go tell aunt Rhody" The evil within 2 with "Ordinary World" and now village with "Yearning for Dark Shadows"
The beginning is obviously the book of shadows. You can also interpret the story as Rose meeting each lord and Miranda before being put into flasks (glass mirror). Second half of the song can be interpretated as a Teenage Rose mourning Ethan. (I believe she has access to his memories. We see Ethan get glimpses of hers when touching the flasks.)
@@Hiraeth-0X This is about this song.Which is why I commented this and sites like song songmeanings exist. Not everyone gets the meaning in songs and this is surprisingly subtle (for capcom) to have the pov switch from the book to Rose
There is a line of dialogue during the battle against Heisenberg and it is in which he says: "It's a shame that I'm your only fan" or something like that, I think that beyond Heisenberg's sarcasm and jokes, this is more like one made by Capcom referring to Ethan as someone who has no fans in his audience, after all Ethan has received a lot of hate, especially in 7 and even after Village and Capcom was very aware, they themselves said they realized their mistake and that is why they wanted to give more emotion to the character since Capcom said that Ethan had grown more in them being the only fan of Ethan (Capcom/Heisenberg) Poor Ethan, no wife, no daughter, and no fans.
I thought I noticed that on one of my runs and I never could think of what it could mean this would make since though he definitely is up there in my top 5 resident evil series now think he is my top spot tbh now lol.
Heisenberg said "Now die like the whole world's watching you!" Then "Too bad i'm your only fan!" It could mean that heisenberg is the only one that'll watch ethan dies, or maybe, it can also prove your point even further. Cuz in re7 people plays it and never liked ethan (Except some)
My Reaction to Ethan in resident evil 7: “he is a robot. Where are his emotions? You’re arm got chainsawed off! Is my audio glitching?” My reaction to Ethan in village: “I...didn’t think I’d cry over you. RIP
I found myself getting more attached to him in RE8 than I did in 7. He had more personality in this game, and his reactions felt genuine. I teared up at the end. I really wanted to see him get a happy ending.
@@astraldog3359 there’s a limit to not giving a fuck. Or getting your arm cut off
Ethan opens his eyes. In front of him are a lot of tough looking men. Hello, my tears, Because of you, I am who I am. Hello, Sorrow, Because of you, I am who I am. It seems in this frame story Lady Dimitrescu is the Bat Lord, Donna Beneviento is the Dark Weaver, Salvatore Morea is the Fish King, Karl Heisenberg is the Iron Steed, and Mother Miranda is the Witch. EDIT: I fixed the 2 ??? and chose "come quench your thirst" and "eat as you wish" - thanks for the suggestions!!
Ethan quickly became one of my favorite protagonists for Resident Evil and I keep crying over the ending to RE8. Hands down one of the best RE protags ever
Capcom Really outdid themselves on this one! The game in my opinion had a Resident Evil 4 vibe and not only that, but the story was phenomenal. Loved every second and every encounter of the game. I have to say Ethan Winters is my new favorite Resident Evil Character above Leon Kennedy. Maybe Ethan was the one by the truck at the end...but if not....R.I.P Ethan Winters....Love is one powerful motivator!
@@Hiraeth-0X That is a beautiful idea, however I do believe the truck stops by the person. Meaning the driver can see the person more than likely. It’s definitely interesting either way.
@@rain.meiru1 I always had the idea or theory that if he survived then he faked his own death to keep his family safer. Simply, he would still be alive but unable to ever be around or see his family again and he does this because he might be the last of the mold other than Rose. Yeah, he took the heart of the molded out, but is it possible that Ethan is so special that even when the heart of the mold dies he can still live on....? Maybe with reduced abilities etc.? If that is Ethan, then I guess you can’t say it was a cut to the future where he died from something else possibly and Rose was visiting his grave from another incident that actually killed him. The only thing else I can think of is that Ethan is the one by the side of the road and his grave is a fake, because of everything that has happened (they did get relocated because of the Baker incident). If Ethan did fake his death maybe Mia and Rose know? Maybe it was just a public thing? Maybe Ethan has been gone all this time and he’s walking down the road and him and Rose finally bump into each other?
@@michaelsharp8393 idk but when Duke saved Ethan he told Ethan that after he does whatever he is going to do he can't return to his old life or something like that so idk, also as a rule in any media if they don't show a character's death then they are more than likely would still be alive
This game was absolutely amazing. Ethan was truly a hero through and through. He went from someone who didn't get much attention to characterization in 7 to one of the most heroic protagonists in the whole series. Right up there with Leon, Jill and Chris himself. Amazing game with an amazing story that never had that resident evil charm and style leave it all throughout.

You have my respect.” Ethan: “Thank you Kratos. Hey Joel, how was your relationship with your daughter figure before you died?” Joel: *Looks depressed and sad from how the devs treated him and Ellie* “I don’t want to talk about it..”
@JILIAN TABARES Sparing Abby means that Ellie forgave Joel, because Abby did what Joel did in the first game. So the ending is literally a good ending.
I’ve played every RE at the time of their release and this one by far had the best story. Totally caught me off guard that they’d put this much heart into the ending.
While listening this song it reminds me of ethans whole story and how much he suffered🥺🥺 This whole game was absolute masterpiece. It’s so sad to see ethans faith. Best father/husband ever♥️
Its kinda ironic cause ethan was the patient miranda was looking for. A person that didnt go backshit crazy when infected with the mold, a person that cheats death. Rip ethan winters, real og 😔
Say what you want about Ethan, but in a certain way he is definitely a role model husband and father. Someone who never hesitated to save his family, no matter how bad the situation got.
Of all ResEvil protagonists. Ethan was more real than all of them and got exactly what would happen to an everyman in their world. Thats why this song hits. Because he pushed to give his all and still was given no proper reward. He was a family man. He fought long enough to survive, to protect his family. And his death should hold power in future titles. Ethan Winters will never fade into the darkness.
You also gotta think, Ethan didn't even know Mia was alive till the end. He thought she was dead through the entire game. He went through all of that game trying to save his daughter and realizing Mia was alive made him feel like everything was gonna be alright.

Village of Shadows acts as an allegory for the game's plot as a whole and it's characters. Alongside foreshadowing the story. The girl is supposed to be Rosemary Winters, who is whisked away into the forest away from her Mother whilst they picked berries. In game she is taken by Miranda into the village The four creatures represent the four house lords and their houses The Bat Lord is in reference to Alcina Dimitrescu. The gold and white colour palette of the bat is similar to her attire. The three bats preceding the Lord may be a reference to Alcina's daughters. The Dressmaker is in reference to House Beneviento (including Donna). Whilst not dressmakers per se, part of puppet making does require the creation of outfits. Golden thread can be found in their house as well. The Fish King bares a resemblance to Salvatore Moreau's mutated form. The Iron Steed is in reference to the Heisenberg family crest. Which his the head of a Stallion with a horseshoe. The gear refers to their industrial roots and towards the factory section of the game. The Witch is Mother Miranda. The girls entrapment in the mirror could refer towards how Rose's body is split into four pieces and put into flasks. The finale of the book has the Father of the girl proceed to fight the witch whilst the mother escapes with her daughter. In the end the father perishes in the forest he set alight alongside the witch. This is clear reference to Ethan's final moments against Miranda and how he sacrifice his live in order for them to escape.

I commented this on a playthrough but I will also say it here the quote from Hellboy sums up Ethan well at the end of this game because He is basically A BOW here is the quote with the freind line removed. "What makes a man a man? Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don't think so. It's the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them." Now imagine Chris saying that line in the game instead of the line being in Hellboy after hating BOWS for almost all his life RIP Ethan Winters.

The beginning is obviously the book of shadows. You can also interpret the story as Rose meeting each lord and Miranda before being put into flasks (glass mirror). Ethan was like a father to me , i loved him like my son.
There is a line of dialogue during the battle against Heisenberg and it is in which he says: "It's a shame that I'm your only fan" or something like that, I think that beyond Heisenberg's sarcasm and jokes, this is more like one made by Capcom referring to Ethan as someone who has no fans in his audience, after all Ethan has received a lot of hate, especially in 7 and even after Village and Capcom was very aware, they themselves said they realized their mistake and that is why they wanted to give more emotion to the character since Capcom said that Ethan had grown more in them being the only fan of Ethan (Capcom/Heisenberg)
Poor Ethan, no wife, no daughter, and no fans.
I mean Heisenberg also made a reference to the fact that Chris punches boulders. So I wouldn’t doubt him being his only fan being a meta reference

And now...
Hello, my tears,

Hello, Sorrow,

It seems in this frame story Lady Dimitrescu is the Bat Lord, Donna Beneviento is the Dark Weaver, Salvatore Morea is the Fish King, Karl Heisenberg is the Iron Steed, and Mother Miranda is the Witch.

The “???” He says “to quench your thirst”
The second one he says “eat your fill”

Ethan quickly became one of my favorite protagonists for Resident Evil and I keep crying over the ending to RE8. Hands down one of the best RE protags ever

Kratos: “Your bravery is admirable for a walking corpse. You have my respect.”
Ethan: “Thank you Kratos. Hey Joel, how was your relationship with your daughter figure before you died?”
Joel: *Looks depressed and sad from how the devs treated him and Ellie*
“I don’t want to talk about it..”
Somewhere out there in the unknown parts of the Internet someone is making that script into an artistic reality.
Or at least I hope they are.
I actually didn't mind how Joel's story ended, because his story was able to come full circle in the first game.
@JILIAN TABARES Shut up

re7 bit better
Of all ResEvil protagonists. Ethan was more real than all of them and got exactly what would happen to an everyman in their world. Thats why this song hits. Because he pushed to give his all and still was given no proper reward. He was a family man. He fought long enough to survive, to protect his family. And his death should hold power in future titles. Ethan Winters will never fade into the darkness.
This game is a total masterpiece
You also gotta think, Ethan didn't even know Mia was alive till the end. He thought she was dead through the entire game. He went through all of that game trying to save his daughter and realizing Mia was alive made him feel like everything was gonna be alright.

Village of Shadows acts as an allegory for the game's plot as a whole and it's characters. Alongside foreshadowing the story.
The girl is supposed to be Rosemary Winters, who is whisked away into the forest away from her Mother whilst they picked berries. In game she is taken by Miranda into the village
The four creatures represent the four house lords and their houses
The Bat Lord is in reference to Alcina Dimitrescu.
