    That’s the goal! Little bit better than last year. Grow more, save more, cook more… I live by the rule “do it at minimum 20% better than before “. It’s a life long process.

    Those datil peppers are really good! They are very productive. I've grown them since 2020 and they will be on my to grow list every year. They are spicy and make a great, pretty yellow hot sauce. Definitely grow 1 of these.

    Let your ducks into the vine vegies garden. They will eat the bugs, but they don’t scratch and tear up the plants. As long as there are bugs they don’t bother plants.

    • @calicocowacres
      @calicocowacres  7 місяців тому +3

      They definitely eat a bunch of my plants. I know most people say this but I highly don’t recommend to anyone else unless you know your own ducks well enough to now they won’t eat your plants.

    Not Just Farmer's has a pepper variety he's mentioned at least 4 times in his vlogs thru the year. Dang, I'll list the variety for you when I come across it. Sounds like a fantastic variety!! One this AZ nurse could eat on the daily. Yum!

    I get my seeds from a variety of companies, I love Botanical Interests, MIGardener, Territorial, Adaptive, and a few others. But nothing beats Johnny's! They have the biggest variety and so many amazing disease resistant varieties that they've developed. My uncle owns a large ranch and has a huge garden and pretty much only buys from Johnny's these days. I just wish their shipping costs were lower LOL! I also love saving seeds and swapping with people in my community for hyper local varieties. Soooo excited for the 2024 garden!

    Love this! This was my first year growing Genovese basil and omg..the pesto it made was TOP TIER 🤌 I’ll never have another garden without it in it. Love the flower picks! I grew the double dutch cosmos a while back but the heads on them seemed to be way too heavy for the stems so they got really droopy. They’re super pretty though. Good luck this season!! 🥰

    • @calicocowacres
      @calicocowacres  7 місяців тому

      yesss the genovese is 10/10!!! I think I might try and twine around the cosmos a bit this year to hold them more upright, because they do tend to droop!

    I love seeing seed hauls! I have quite a collection of seeds, mostly from MIgardener, but also from Botanical Interests, Baker Creek, High Mowing, Johnny’s, Seed Saver’s Exchange, Burpee, and Park. I recently placed an order at Seedville USA, and there are some seeds at Hoss Tool I will most likely order as well. Luke at MIgardener just added 30 new seed types, including a few of his favorite hybrid varieties of corn, so I might be placing another order there. I think that will be at least my fourth order at MIgardener for the upcoming gardening season! (Uh, yeah, I might have a problem!)

    Can't wait to see how colorful your gardens are with all the flowers you are going to plant. The pollinators will love them for sure. I only have a few raised beds so only plant what we will eat and it's mostly pick and eat for just the two of us. I love this! I 100% recommend going to the store. I went to the store while I was working up that way and it is the cutest little store. I had to stop myself from getting too many. I already started some onions from them and out of all the onions that I planted, they are the only ones that germinated 100%. Plus the people working there are super nice. You'll love it. Watch out for all the little critters as you're clearing up the space. I moved out here last year and I find a new little critter every day when I try to clean up the land. but I can't wait to see how your garden grows.

    When planting corn remember to plant them in blocks rather than long rows. They are pollinated by the wind and if they are in a long row or two the chances of getting good pollination is pretty low. Better to have 4 or 5 short rows than one or 2 long rows.

    MI gardener seeds are great. I used to do Baker Creek but I was having less success.
    A good thing is if you have a feed store near you a lot of times the feed store sells seeds by the scoop that are made for your climate in your area. I have one in my area so now I started buying the peppers from him, the potato seed, all kinds of stuff, because what he has is for our climate I think I’ll buy some onion seeds from him as well. Try your local feed store.
