In my opinion, i think that renown is a good motivator to get good at pvp. Getting hunted repeatedly is what motivated me to start trying to get good at the game to defend myself. if you get good enough at pvp, you will get better at pve, and be able to defend yourself from getting hunted whilst doing things like diving or treasure charts
PVP right now is an unbalanced mess anyways, sure you can defend yourself but why would you want to get good at something that's at it's core so frustrating to partake in right now? I want to like and enjoy pvp but the way it's being handled right now is so frustrating. Also the community surrounding it is pretty toxic as well which makes the experience just that much worse
Fire video Jimmy. I think what AO lacks above all is friendly, pve content to do with other people. Stuff that encourages you to work with your fellow player, not kill them. Dark sea doesn't work because splitting loot makes it inherently less rewarding the more people you bring so its much better to just tough it out on your own then team up with friends. Sea based pve events would be a wonderful thing.
I think that something that the Grand Navy and the assassin's syndicate needs is that the bounty hunter board is better a board of procedural missions and that these missions to be completed to provide points to rank up as this would not depend on the reputation or bounty you have if not the progress you have with the faction. When you get to complete the progression bar to rank up you would be sent to do a mission where you would have to kill a miniboss that is generated procedurally and the higher rank you want to be the more difficult the mission will be to complete and it could even be a fight against double minibosses.
My idea is to combine both concepts by having a toggle that allows you to become hidden and not get hunted or be allowed but also get a renown multiplier
In regards to the 'cops versus robbers' section, random events could occur, such as on islands where either faction needs your help to kill enemies or get intel on the other faction/other random groups (multiple-faction events?), or larger-scale naval battles involving fleets of ships in combat. Players on either side of reputation could assist or interfere with the event, which would affect their renown and give rare items once finished.
I never thought I’d say this, but the bounty hunting concept that Blox Fruits uses (you can only steal a players bounty 3 times and anything after that doesn’t count) would be a good solution.

mr 1k hours 7k pks here, i know what your talking about when you say "leaderboard encourages people to ruthlessly attack others" but when your on leaderboard you can only really hunt other leaderboard members, say me and some random both have 100k bounty, i will get ALOT more if i hunt him while at his level, rather than if i was at one million i get alot less, so leaderboard doesnt directly cause the butt-touchening of randoms. from what iv seen when PvEr #87 gets jumped by PvPer #34 the pvper mostly just wants playerkills to inflate their pk/h (playerkills per hour) renown in of itself is not bad game design, its just the fact that the community is so horrible that random PvPers that think theyre hot shit jump randoms to inflate their playerkills because theyre not actually good enough to win a fair 1v1 (my apologies if this was a pain to read im not the best at writing)
It may be unrealistic but you could add a badge named "The Pacifist" for having obtain 1m renown through pve. And other things to encourage pve like idk... actually making it like player? Like you get more than just 5k per kill, but you also lose more than that if you lose. if a plyer kill you, you cannot lose the renown you gained through pve. this is unrealistic, sadly.
another less drastic suggestion, being able to rip your poster off the bounty hunting board, makes players unable to hunt you, and you unable to hunt players (you still can hunt npcs)

Real. I have a navy character for the captain drip. I got all my fame By hunting criminal npcs for a month. Low and behold My fame got reset for the second time. I don't even feel like grinding for my fame again. It's very depressing and decreases replay value in my opinion cause one of the the avenues for replay (Getting renown or getting bounty) Is rendered completely mute by the fact that it just get reset you can't do anything about it.
personal takeaway (yap) 1 : Being jailed isnt fun. 2 : Hunting bounties, players or npcs, isnt fun and you shouldnt be forced to do it to get bounty past 100k considering its harder to do things like takeover silverhold, takedown fortified ships, turn in dark sealed chests than farm easy bounty. You should be rewarded with fame and bounty to prove your progress in the game rather than a number to show people how much of a loser you are. Maybe add titles for non top spots but instead milestones, like a title for reaching 500k bounty, 1m bounty, etc instead of being strictly required to be in a top 100 spot for a title. Would add more variation than seeing everyone with True captain and Epicenter Explorer and such. 3 : PVP is fun, but if its gonna be forced you shouldnt be put under any penalties to support the idea of renown proving your progress in the game (such as jailing, loss of renown, galleons, spawning far from your ship, and having a pvp shield after dying recently to prevent obv harassment I dont really agree with all the ideas jimmy has cause some of them are frankly awful... like the removal of joining gravy and syndicate... but well to each their own and it IS vetex's game, not ours as he stated before so if there is a change that would come about, its gonna be vetex's own idea and not one of ours im sure of it. Everything sounds nice but my character has it's own lore outside of the story. Removing the Grunt Nayfee would be removing the whole reason I play. I'm sure others could agree. I don't want to be an arrand boy for the Navy just because the story says it makes sense, it'd take away a lot of appeal and freedom.
i think renown shouldnt get you bounty hunted but notoriety should be changed to do what renown currently does. Instead of just making players with bounties get chased by the navy, both sides of renown should be able to get notoriety (bad rep gets notoriety from navy, good rep gets notoriety from assassin syndicate), notoriety also wont make npc ships appears to attack you with this notoriety would be the thing that gets shown on bounty boards allowing you to be hunted unsure of how youd get notoriety but itd be a very intentional thing that PVE players can easily avoid tldr renown gets turned into a PVE thing thats part of the regular progression (as i imagine it was originally supposed to be), notoriety becomes a secondary thing for people who want PVP id love to get high bounty without getting hunted but currently thats just not a thing and i wish it was
aside from that i think its a good idea but making this type of game with this type of combat ENTIRELY pve based at the moment is just unviable and would leave the game unplayable for most people and for actual clan players who want to go around fighting eachother and having wars and stuff, like there should be in an actual pirate game
I think keeping the current system is fine, but an option needs to be added to turn off pvp. This would allow pve players to not get ganked and there would also still be motivation to turn pvp on and participate in it since you get more renown.

I don't PvP due to Arcane having preformance issues with inventory space, I always got hunted and they failed because of stupid bugs I used to abuse that are now patched that I ran away Post video: Vetex said himself that he hates how toxic the PvPers are, although a bunch of PvE concepts being added in the future only time will tell if the concepts are actually executed well. I doi believe once Lost and Ancient Magics/FS are released there untradable making most of the toxic PvPers actually spend time farming to straight up leave because I was the over powered things to be blocked by trading

I dislike the executions causing you to drop galleons, you've already lost your 350 because you died, and now you lose another 350, that's 700 galleons because a gravy metal mage insta-killed you
Jimmy not everyone enjoys shouting about the weight and size of their balls while throwing cannonballs at buildings so some people enjoy the pvp system so the game doesn't become more stale than month old bread. there's no incentive to go and pve if it's not to prepare a build to pvp.
