The "Chinese proverb" by Chester V says: "The wicked provide poison to hands that have no soup". The one by Sam means exactly what she translates it into.
They were sitting down in the office one day and someone said; "What if we made a sequel and used all of the food puns that never made it into the first movie?"
1. Chester is essentially what Flint would have become if he hadn't gotten his reality check in the first movie and if the machine didn't malfunction. 2. Flint overly trusting his childhood hero makes sense considering how insecure he still is, making him miss the obvious hints that the guy is insanely sketchy and doesn't actually respect him. 3. This movie is a little bit weaker than the first one , but its still an overall good sequel.
Good points. I was never big with the first movie because I had different ideas since I was intrigued with the book when I was read to it. A lot of stuff from the movie confused or weirded me out. The sequel eases me on those qualities, and I understand Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's style more than I did from the likes of Lego Movie and Spider-Verse.
Let's agree that the villain is more appealing and interesting than the one from the first movie - it makes sense for Flint to trust his childhood idol and not see the obvious evil hints that everyone else does. Plus, I love his noodle limbs and the way he moves.
I think Flint's attitudes and trust errors with both villains make sense and are justified. In the first movie it wasn't so much that Flint actually trusted the Mayor, rather than that, Flint lied to himself thinking that going through with the overuse of his invention would be ok, because everyone would finally accept him, after so many years of failures and people hating him for those failures. In the sequel Flint is literally face to face with his idol. This time Flint isn't manipulated through the argument of "everyone will like you", but instead for "You will win my admiration" from the person he most idolizes, also at first it sound kind of dumb the argument V gives to flint about "bullies never being friends", specifically because it seems to be only referring to Brent, but it actually applies to all his friends except Sam and the cameraman, because previous to that they treated him badly and casted him aside. Also, is it me or Flint actually created a conscious AI?! In the first movie the machine started to malfunction due to overuse and radiation mutated the food, the machine even attacked Flint, his creator, in a survival attempt to prevent its essential "death". Nevertheless, in the sequel the machine becomes creative with the mutation, and starts to make sentient food with an entire ecosystem and life-cycles. This time when Flint arrives to shut it down again, the machine does not tries to attack him again, instead it makes a demonstration of what it is capable to do now. It's as if the machine was appealing to both reason and emotion to convince its creator not to "kill them". This machine not only proved intelligence, but also showcased growth as a sentient being.
I see what your point is, but I actually do not like this feeling just because what they should’ve done is have the mayor come back, somehow still alive. Raven, introducing entirely different villain, not only that I would say that Flits real villain, for the whole movie is actually himself creating it
@@zakthepenguin5106 to be honest, for me, the mayor was the most annoying part of the first movie when I saw it. He didn't feel like a "villain," just more like an annoying sibling for some reason.
This movie was banned in our house because we watched it at least once a week and my mom couldn’t take it anymore 😅 imp to note: everyone in the house was over 15 years old at the time the movie was banned
I LOVE this movie. Everything about it, from the questionable need for food puns every five seconds to the extremely fluid animation and bright colors. Chester literally just DEFIES the laws of physics during the whole film and that's why he's my favorite villain.

The Chester V situation is literally a mirror of Charles Edison/Steve Jobs etc. Scooping up all the free minds and bringing them in under guise of a think tank. This allows you to 1) Eliminate all competition 2) Have other people do the work and then patent it under your name. In function, not a dumb idea at all, just nefarious.
While the film isn’t as good or superior to the first film, I still enjoy the sequel thanks to the squash and stretch rubber hose animation, the various food animals and Chester being a despicable villain that you outright hate the moment you saw him on screen and can’t help he’s a mix of Steve Jobs with the design of Clone High’s Gandhi (which Lord and Miller worked on). Hard to say if Chester is more ruthless than Jack Horner (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) or they are equal in terms of villainy and personality? Finally, it’s worth noting that Phil Lord and Chris Miller who directed the first movie, didn’t return to direct the sequel despite the fact they returned as writers for this film, because they were busy directing the _21 Jump Street_ Duology films and _The Lego Movie_ respectively.
I like the Steve Jobs jab with Chester & Sam's Ellie Sattler cosplay. The first time I watched this movie I actually don't like it, but now I appreciate the references, word play & puns.
In an related, and unrelated kinda way, the designs of the food animals reminded me of an old-ish, wacky anime called “Fighting Foodons”. Because there were some designs from that show that were animals.
Did u guys notice that Brent pooped an egg when the ship showed up? 😂 he got scared 😂 Also Chester's company could've couldve survived on all the leftover food at swallow falls and the food arouns the world. He was just greedy
Another great Sony animation that I suggest you guys watch because not only is it a great film but it is the film for all to watch and I think it has a good decent amount of humor that movie is serfs up!!!
This definitely has its own charm. I am not too fond of Chester but for a kids movie he can do for a bad guy. I like to think they were trying to do a simple version of what if someone as smart as Flint went bad, as well as narcissistic. It actually makes sense that to show someone with those traits in a more obvious fashion as a first interaction for kids. Now they know to recognize that as bad. Anywho i would love a third movie where the entire world just gets food junglefied.
I like to think that when the Food machine fell back to earth, falling in the water was enough to cool down its overheated nuclear reactor. So, with a fresh water source, a means to expell its nuclear waste, and enough reserve power in the core to restart itself, that’s how the machine was able to turn back on, even after it was badly damaged when it’s blocked dispenser blew apart.
Did you notice that when anyone of the characters of movies when they were kids and then become adults always is their mom that is not present?,it happens here and also in American Pie Reunion i think, his son says that his dad is not very happy since his mom died, why always mom? From a biological perspective, this is actually creepier than most people think. We see that the strawberry has eyes, a mouth, limbs and is capable of speech. That means it has a brain, central nervous system, muscles and organs. If you were to take a bite out of it, it'd be like taking a bite out of a living person. Does it bleed? Does it have a skeletal structure?
I still believe that both movies could be SO MUCH MORE had they been rated R. They're great nostalgia movies, but I've always thought it would be so funny to see it rated R.
