Trump had "great ideas"? Guys... get real. Trump won because his malignant racist idiocy APPEALS to other malignant racist idiots. And those people are AT LEAST 40% of the country.
Ironically, Obama did when he ran in 2009. It was all lies as we soon found out but he presented himself as a progressive who would fight the banks and won in a landslide.
It's as if Bernie Sanders was cursed at birth, that he will always speak the truth, but nobody will listen If the dems put themselves behind him in 2016, we would be in a massively different situation right now. Do you remember FDR doing the fucking god work during his presidency, even though he was hated by the upper class of his times? Bernie Sanders is not even just a person with the right ideas. He knows crazy well how to get stuff done. He is the politican we need
The problem is the projection onto the "we". Of course not everyone in the USA is a loud, obnoxious, arrogant "'Murican!" - but the ones who aren't are projecting _their_ personality onto that "we", and don't see how utterly wrong they are in that.
Please remember: the GOP disenfranchised millions of Democrat votes by gerrymandering; voter registration purges right before the election without enough time to re-register; removing married women if they never legally changed their last name when they got married; they have been deceptive to people about which day is voting day, and poll locations, etc. They changed state laws to allow a single MAGA Republican to finalize the state counts, unchallenged. They published false propaganda regarding candidates. And finally, by passing state laws that if the ballots were not finished being counted by the next morning, THEY WERE THROWN OUT. So anyone living in a metropolitan area in those states, with millions of votes, weren't counted. This is how they took the Electoral College: cheating. Remember this. A lot of us didn't actually GET to vote. They made certain of this.
They legally cheated by changing certain state laws, purging voter registrations, and throwing out any ballots not done being counted by morning. Plus much more, but every time i type it all out, my post is deleted.

You mean like you guys in the far left. You VOTED for Trump just to spite democrats that doesn’t make you more progressive. It just makes you a closeted Republican! AOC- how’s the ethics investigation on you going? Bernie do us all a favor and STFU and go away. We have empirical evidence data and testimony from working class Americans that have told us that the Democratic Party association with YOU and the Democratic Socialists is the reason why they are moving away from Democrats. You and the democratic socialist of America are equally in bed with our foreign adversaries as much as the far right except for Iran’s proxies who I am sure you receive funding from. Since 2016 we have dealt with your followers directly sabotaging vulnerable people and working class people in the name of your vanguardism and political cult. This has been a giant political temper tantrum from people who couldn’t cope that you don’t have the power to win a presidential election or any of your protégés like AOC. Anyone that has seen your legislative record would know you don’t even have the political power to pass a bill as a senator and you have been one for 20+ years. Democrats proved that they could do in four months what you haven’t been able to do in 8+ years. So how dare you come on here and insult working class and vulnerable people that due to your followers meddling and direct sabotage have lost all their rights this election? We are not stupid Bernie. Believe it or not poor people see past your BS. Stop exploiting us. And by enabling a Trump win you enabled your own political downfall as he and Vance have listed you and AOC is who he believes needs to be taken down in the Democratic Party. Congrats you played yourself. Leave vulnerable people alone! Bernie is literally suggesting feudalism as an economic solution. Poor people aren’t stupid. We don’t want YOU Bernie!

Bernie was the first (and really only) politician I've ever felt I could believe really cared for people like me when I was at the time 18 year old. I was gutted when he wasn't the nominee and never will be. He consistently points to how screwed up our institutions are and calls out even other dems. I wish we had 100 more reps like him in congress to spur on chamge.
Bernie has his seat for as long as he wants it. He is revered in Vermont by Democrats and Republicans alike. When he's not in Washington he works tirelessly on the ground advocating for the working class and the disadvantaged. People here think of him more as a social worker than a politician.
The ones saying Kamala went “too far left”, umm NO! She went too far to the RIGHT by embracing Liz and Dick Cheney! The “far left” supported Trump after feeling abandoned, not to mention former prominent Bernie supporters such as Tulsi Gabbard or Joe Rogan also supported Trump.

They're definitely going to shift right. If the DNC chair is saying this, he obviously has learned nothing. I am not certain that growing a left wing movement within the Democratic Party is viable anymore. That said we've seen how well forming a "third" party goes. How do we make this party go the way of the Whigs? I voted for Kamala, but I completely understand the numerous voters that decided that they couldn't vote, or felt it wasn't worth their time.
Have you ever heard people talk politics in break rooms or at parties. Trust me, you're not going to see a viable left-wing movement in this country ever again.
Remember all the talk about the “Justice Democrats?” I don’t think that lasted six months, and that’s being generous. I’m not sure I’d bother to participate in an attempt to “grow a true left” in the Democratic Party…but then, I’m royally sick of US politics, period, right about now. I remember Biden announcing himself the winner when Bernie was mopping the floor with all of them. Americans have never been able to see the amazing president we could have had. 😑💙
That's where you're wrong, a lot of Americans did see it, it's the establishment that didn't. I live in Louisiana, and I know a lot of Trump supporters who have a soft spot for Bernie Sanders, and I even know a few who said that if in 2016 the election was between Sanders and Trump, they would have a hard time picking and would have to actually think about their vote. The only thing that Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump have in common, is both use populist rhetoric, Bernie Sanders is honest, earnest, and has actual integrity, Trump has none of those, but populism works.

During the Great Depression the angst from the people was so high we were close to communist and socialist revolutions. F.D.R. saved democracy with democratic socialist policies. After Reagan screwed us with trickle down economics. Bernie was our chance at another F.D.R. To get us back on track.
FDR wasnt a Dem Soc nor did dem soc policies. He just ran progressive policies, used Keynesian economics, and convince the rich if they didnt comply with him they will end up like the rich in the USSR. Preserving the capitalist system. Doing FDR policies will only lead us back to here. Even with all that the rich still tried to support a fascist to overthrow FDR
But with the difference that there wasnt a more radical threat in Bernie's case. A lot of FDRs efforts were to stave off Fascism as well as Communism. Maybe as we go down that road a little you could get an FDR type reaction again.

I agree with Mike 100%. At first I thought her stance on Israel/Gaza was to avoid having AIPAC start fighting against her, but she just kept moving further and further right.
Its honestly crazy because right after announcing Walz there was genuine excitement amongst the majority of liberal voters. Choosing Walz made it seem like they were at the beginning of a shift to the left and it generated so much energy and enthusiasm. In the following weeks they just completely tossed aside that entire shift and the energy that came with it to paint themselves as more moderate and conservative. I hindsight it should have been obvious from the Cheney acknowledgment that Trump would win. Absolute fucking idiocy in the Harris campaign from that point on and it cost us all dearly.
If given the choice between a democrat who cozies up to republicans and a real republican, people vote for the real republican. I notice that Kamala Harris went lower in the polls whenever she would say that republicans support her.
This is why centrism never works, centrism lies and says they attract votes, but they only steal the possibility from the left wing, they take the turn on pendulum swing. They only win when we could have run on burnt toast and won. When a Republican is in charge and the electorate is hungering for something else. Then they promise that nothing will change, then lo and behold nothing changes and the Republican wins next time.

I’m so tired of hypocrites like you- Bernie Sanders is a war profiteering Zionist capitalist. Who had anti-war activist, black liberation activist, and those that spoke out against him ARRESTED. Poor folk and Black folk know our history. You can’t fool us on Bernie. “Sanders may offer slightly different rhetoric than other Democratic candidates or Donald Trump, but his record proves him to be no alternative at all… During the 1980s, Vermont was one of the largest recipients of Defense Department weapons contracts, such s the General Electric Plant in Burlington, which produced gatling guns for death squads. When peace activists planned to block the gate to the GE factory on June 20, 1983, Sanders refused to support them and had them arrested… Even during his “radical period”, Sanders was only opposed to militarism… It is that same rationale that justifies Sanders’ long-standing support for the F-35 fighter jet, which at 1.5 trillion dollars is the most expensive program in military weapons history. Sanders has made no secret that he wants that investment in Vermont, which will provide at least 1400 jobs and $124 million worth of investment… In 1998, Sanders voted for the Iraq Liberation Act and another resolution that supported American measures to overthrow Saddam Hussein. As Jeffrey St. Clair noted for Counterpunch: These measures gave congressional backing for the CIA’s covert plan to overthrow the Hussein regime in Baghdad, as well as the tightening of an economic sanctions regime that may have killed as many as 500,000 Iraqi children. The resolution also gave the green light to Operation Desert Fox, a four-day long bombing campaign striking 100 targets throughout Iraq. The operation featured more than 300 bombing sorties and 350 ground-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles, several targeting Saddam Hussein himself. In voting in favor of these sanctions and interventions, Sanders is a direct accomplice to the deaths they caused… Sanders did not limit his support to American militarism merely to Iraq. In 1996, he voted in favor of the Iran and Libya Sanctions Act, which “imposes sanctions on persons exporting certain goods or technology that would enhance Iran’s ability to explore for, extract, refine, or transport by pipeline petroleum resources, and for other purposes.” In 2001, he voted to extend the Iran and Libya Sanctions Act. In 1998, he voted in favor of extraditing black revolutionary Assata Shakur to the United States in order to face “justice.”… However, the most notorious action of Sanders during the Clinton years was voting in favor of American bombing in Kosovo in 1999. When antiwar activists occupied Sanders’ office in 1999 due to his support for the war, he had them arrested. Sanders’ backing for air strikes in Kosovo led one of his advisers, Jeremy Brecher to resign in disgust, writing: “Is there a moral limit to the military violence you are willing to participate in or support? Where does that limit lie? And when that limit has been reached, what action will you take?” In fact, there is no limit to the amount of violence that Bernie Sanders is willing to support… He voted in favor of H.R. Res. 64, Authorization for Use of Military Force that provided a blank check to President George W. Bush to utilize force against the terrorists responsible. Less than a month later, the United States launched military actions against Afghanistan which over the course of the last 18 years have led to thousands of deaths and devastated the country. The War on Terror marked the beginning of Sanders’ support for the war budget and appropriations to the military in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007. and 2008…. When the Bush Administration geared up for the Iraq War in 2003, Sanders did vote against authorizing the use of military force. This is something that Sanders and his supporters point out as reflecting his antiwar record. However, this is a clever bait and switch. Just as American troops put their boots on the ground in a war that would kill hundreds of thousands, Sanders voted in favor of a resolution expressing support for the military. While Sanders has verbally opposed the Iraq War as illegal and wrong, this amounts to nothing but hot air since he regularly votes for military funding. If the war is illegal and wrong, then so is voting to fund it…. Sanders’ support for protecting Israel was not just in terms of words, but by votes to provide billions in military hardware and aid to the Apartheid state in 1997, 1999, 2004. When Hamas won the Palestinian elections in 2006, Sanders voted in favor of imposing sanctions in order to remove them from power. He has also voted for resolutions in favor of Israeli military actions against Lebanon in 2006 and Gaza in 2014. At a town hall meeting on Gaza, Sanders was heckled for defending the Israeli actions, telling the audience to “shut up.” - Not on Our Side: On Bernie Sanders and Imperialism Left Voice Bernie Sanders presents himself as an anti-war candidate. But he has voted in favor of almost every single U.S. military intervention in the last two decades. A look at his record…
A long time ago, during a protest, a wise older person shared a nugget of wisdom with me: "The Democratic party is where progressive policy goes to die." And it's more true now than ever.
I wash my hands of America. I am inventorying stuff and packing things up. I came to the USA several years ago. I served in the military and now watching Americans intentionally choose fascism makes me shake my head. I have no desire to fight for the USA, not when the majority of Americans actively pointed to and demanded a fascist leader. I am done. I think it will take me about a year to tie up any loose ends. I will be poor when I return home, but I will also be free. America won't change unless it collapses and is totally rebuilt.
I expect a lot of people who can to either return to their home country, or to apply for work visas in another country. I'd not be surprised if a lot of smart and educated people would be amongst those who leave.

You are exactly right. The DNC and Hillary are responsible for all of this. We need to work at the state level to unravel our electoral system - not just Electoral College - but HOW we conduct elections. Work to establish preferential voting, where each candidate gets a rating, (not a rank. Ranked choice voting has problems.) It undermines parties and allows more direct input and finer resolution from the electorate. The parties will always be for sale.

Yep, it was felt instantly when the diet republican talking points started to come up. And it only got worse. Completely eviscerated the momentum they had with the Walz pick. Pandering to conservatives NEVER works. Do the republicans ever pander left? Fuck no. They double down even harder. And guess what? They win elections by having a rock solid base, which the democrats seem to push away every single time. They never fucking learn!
He's been a senator since 2006, so he's been a senator for 3 races. I would probably look to him for how to win than the DNC chair who lost and has dismissed him.
What I saw here in smallish town Missouri is people were furious about the cost of everything. People also were mad because they thought people were getting things they they didn’t and they were pissed. They said “migrants” were getting free rent, health care, getting free money and they were struggling. They were also made about student loan forgiveness, they paid their loans and it’s not fair others got it when they didn’t. They were pissed that Harris was giving out $25k to people that they felt “didn’t work for it”. Too many thought that blue states were cutting off little boys genitals to turn them into girls. I have a trans son and people just wouldn’t believe me that that isn’t a thing. People also don’t want another war and Biden and Harris were all in for Israel and my younger friends just would not vote for Harris. People also just wanted to hurt people. They are just racist, homophobic, xenophobic pieces of crap and just want to burn everything down. People in the grocery line were crowing about all the liberals offing themselves after the election. Older people were laughing their asses off in public and people were high giving them in public. Then there were the people, homeless people, who were saying that now trumps in charge everything is going to be cheaper on day one, that we were all going to be rich and trump was going to be sending out “them checks baby”. I’m disabled and don’t have the resources to get to a blue state or a big city and it’s so horrific I can’t express it properly to hear my fellow citizens just plain evil and self centered mess, the utter lack of care for others and their glee at the thought of violence and democrats are going to learn the wrong lesson and move to the right and lose my vote for the first time in 50 years.

Your cousin voted for Trump 3 times. You can't blame voters using the Trump voter as your basis... the key are the people who feel like there's no point to voting. The ones who see little to no difference and are reeling economically regardless. Trump has the same base he always has. But you're not gonna get anyone standing with you if they're struggling and you're bragging about how great the stock market is doing.
Yes I was 36 years old when I was introduced to Bernie hos first go around and I cried the 1st time around when they screwed him. The 2nd time I was just pissed!
My opinion on why Dems lost: first and foremost 70 million people voted for racism, sexism and fascism. Secondly, Dems have repeatedly shown that they do not take the concerns of their voter base seriously over the wants of their biggest donors.
That second point is heartbreaking. Harris proved extremely popular right after the start of her campaign, when she and Tim Walz called Republicans "weirdos" and presented themselves as more dynamic than Biden. Seeing her campaign devolve into the usual appeals to the fabled "moderate conservative" while her poll numbers visibly tanked was baffling.
Don't forget to mention the dems trotted out a woman candidate when the opposition is trying to take womens rights away. Proving that people are not ready for a female president. One side doesn't even see women as equal people that should be able to vote. That will not swing many voters even if they don't like trump.
This is the best opinion I've seen on this. Rights were taken from women yet the majority of white women voted for Trump. It is a mix of bigotry and the DNC not embracing their base.
How they treated Arab Americans, made that obvious. Trying to snuff out, left wing propositions to keep capitalist "options" instead and brush off the people that loathe their "nothing will change" motto. Neo-Liberal arrogance always brings fascist populism in.
I am biological boy . Who played on a girls team. Because girls had no one on the team. Who played goalie position for hockey. So I went in to play for them. So they can play the sport they loved. No one saw anything wrong with that. This was 1990s to 2000. Man , people brains have absolutely melted.
Similar situation here. I’m a cisgender woman and I played on a boys baseball team as a kid. This was in the 90’s. Then, in the early 2000s, my college soccer team didn’t have a goalkeeper coach due to lack of funding. So, for a season, I practiced with the men’s team and trained with their coach. Later on, I wanted to learn how to box, and I sparred against men all the time. Literally no one cared. No one said a word or blinked an eye at ANY of this. No one talked about how I was “going to get hurt” or how it was “so unfair for boys to compete against a girl.” And this all happened in Florida! Conservative Florida! 😂 What this tells me is that the whole “unfairness in sports” narrative is just newly invented propaganda meant specifically to demonize transpeople and portray cisgender women and girls as weak and inferior. (Edited because I forgot to add something.)
Same but from the different gender. I played Korfbal ( a Dutch mixed gender sport, which is kinda like basketbal, but you can't dribble with the ball) . Because we were low on boys I played against boys for two years because else our team couldn't play. No one was weird about it, and I never felt at a disadvantage

However, since they're all beholden to their corporate masters, we'll continue this stupid cycle of leaning further right to win over "moderate Republicans/independents" and shocked Pikachu face when they continue to lose. This country DESPERATELY needs a viable left third party that focuses on the non-10% and realizes that economics rule EVERYTHING. If young people can't afford groceries, how is telling them to worry about climate or home ownership or fascism or whatever in the future going to win votes? This is so frustrating to watch and so disappointing for my kids' future.
@@doomsdayrabbit4398There needs to be another protest movement like Occupy Wall Street, but the focus must be entirely on campaign finance and anti-corruption. Don’t exclude academic socialists, but don’t let them be the focus like happened with Occupy Wall Street. The message needs to be focused, angry, but PRACTICAL. No artsy kumbaya street anarchist BS. The focus also needs to be attracting a large angry crowd, not annoying disruption stunts by small groups of people. The purpose needs to be to get the media’s attention at all costs. The problem is that if workers movements do not call out corruption, we get outflanked by the right. Look at RFK. I think he’s a kook, especially the anti-vax shit, but the message lands. Filling the administrative state with idiotic unqualified MAGA kooks will just cause dysfunction but the corporate corruption is 100% real. Unions don’t have the funds to compete with corporate donors. They do have the funds to organize protest movements if they work together. Things are more difficult with the potential of the Trump administration sicking jack-booted thugs on protesters. The thing is, if the left don’t play into their hands with rioting or goofy stunts that only annoy people, the optics becomes impossible. How can they possibly try to physically shut down a movement using the exact same “drain the swamp” rhetoric they use?

Out of Trump, Harris, J.D. Vance, and Walz, Walz was the only one with an overwhelmingly positive approval rating, and they basically told him to shut up because he was being "mean" by calling the other side weird.
Two things can be true. Democrats have their part of the blame and those who voted Trump have theirs. I don't think we should act like these people are victims just because they're "working class". They still chose Trump. We're acting like they're animals who the dems forgot to close the pen to and got out. They're humans that can be held accountable for bad decisions just like the rest.
Zelenskyy was a comedian too before ascending to the presidency in Ukraine because their political establishment was f*cked as well, so it’s not like there’s no precedent for it. Bernie Sanders is a war profiteering Zionist capitalist.
Why vote for Republican light when you can vote Full Republican. The middle or center right voterbase that is going to save the day is a myth. I was on board up until that moment, although I had my share of doubts weeks beforehand. Kamala did not represent me. I am not a capitalist. I am a realist and a feminist of the working class, to be more precise, of the lower working class and when a single independent woman hears an elitist entitled feminist say I'm a capitalist, it reverberates. It is defined by; I love my status quo class and privilege and my windfall of profit and as long as I bend to the will of the bourgeoisie, I've got the win in the bag. IOW, Kamala is working for team DONOR when she declares; I am a Capitalist. There are two classes/groups of feminists: one is Kamala, the other is me. A working-class single mother vs an establishment elitist Queen entitled upper class echelon. I voted Democrat to put a stop to trump, period the end. I have felt for some time now this is a "One Party" system, even going as far back as the Clintons in the 90"s which even then had devastating effects on the working class.

We need to use that to challenge them from the left. The more they abandon even the pretense of a left leaning alternative the weaker they become.
I voted for Harris too (or against Project 2025), but I also understand why people voted for Trump or stayed home.

The DNC talking over Bernie is WHY WE ARE IN THIS MESS NOW!
If given the choice between a democrat who cozies up to republicans and a real republican, people vote for the real republican. I notice that Kamala Harris went lower in the polls whenever she would say that republicans support her.
Least we know for sure they're a leopard.
This is why centrism never works, centrism lies and says they attract votes, but they only steal the possibility from the left wing, they take the turn on pendulum swing. During the 1980s, Vermont was one of the largest recipients of Defense Department weapons contracts, such s the General Electric Plant in Burlington, which produced gatling guns for death squads. When peace activists planned to block the gate to the GE factory on June 20, 1983, Sanders refused to support them and had them arrested…
Even during his “radical period”, Sanders was only opposed to militarism…
It is that same rationale that justifies Sanders’ long-standing support for the F-35 fighter jet, which at 1.5 trillion dollars is the most expensive program in military weapons history. Sanders has made no secret that he wants that investment in Vermont, which will provide at least 1400 jobs and $124 million worth of investment…
In 1998, Sanders voted for the Iraq Liberation Act and another resolution that supported American measures to overthrow Saddam Hussein. As Jeffrey St. Clair noted for Counterpunch:
These measures gave congressional backing for the CIA’s covert plan to overthrow the Hussein regime in Baghdad, as well as the tightening of an economic sanctions regime that may have killed as many as 500,000 Iraqi children.
In voting in favor of these sanctions and interventions, Sanders is a direct accomplice to the deaths they caused…
Sanders did not limit his support to American militarism merely to Iraq.
In 1998, he voted in favor of extraditing black revolutionary Assata Shakur to the United States in order to face “justice.”…
However, the most notorious action of Sanders during the Clinton years was voting in favor of American bombing in Kosovo in 1999. And when that limit has been reached, what action will you take?”
In fact, there is no limit to the amount of violence that Bernie Sanders is willing to support…
He voted in favor of H.R.
At a town hall meeting on Gaza, Sanders was heckled for defending the Israeli actions, telling the audience to “shut up.” -

Two things the republicans hate most
!!!!!
Bernie Sanders is a war profiteering Zionist capitalist. Who had anti-war activist, black liberation activist, and those that spoke out against him ARRESTED. Poor folk and Black folk know our history. You can’t fool us on Bernie.
“Sanders may offer slightly different rhetoric than other Democratic candidates or Donald Trump, but his record proves him to be no alternative at all…
During the 1980s, Vermont was one of the largest recipients of Defense Department weapons contracts, such s the General Electric Plant in Burlington, which produced gatling guns for death squads.
In voting in favor of these sanctions and interventions, Sanders is a direct accomplice to the deaths they caused…
Sanders did not limit his support to American militarism merely to Iraq.
In 1998, he voted in favor of extraditing black revolutionary Assata Shakur to the United States in order to face “justice.”…
However, the most notorious action of Sanders during the Clinton years was voting in favor of American bombing in Kosovo in 1999. And when that limit has been reached, what action will you take?”
In fact, there is no limit to the amount of violence that Bernie Sanders is willing to support…
He voted in favor of H.R.
At a town hall meeting on Gaza, Sanders was heckled for defending the Israeli actions, telling the audience to “shut up.” -
Not on Our Side: On Bernie Sanders and Imperialism Left Voice
Bernie Sanders presents himself as an anti-war candidate. But he has voted in favor of almost every single U.S. military intervention in the last two decades. A look at his record…
