If the HST is to be trimmed to 5", shouldn't the two squares that comprise the unit be cut larger than the 5-1/2" listed? (5-7/8 or for us less precise folk 6")
You can always cut larger, but the size listed in the cutting is correct for the least waste.
Your pattern needs to be corrected. Trim HST to 5" instead of 4.5". Cute block.
