  • You have to be somewhat of a water ski history buff to even know what this thing is. And to be completely honest, even with my 30+ years on the water, it didn't pop up on my radar until about 10 years ago.
    ....
I first heard about Ski Skat and couldn't quite wrap my brain around how it was explained... and then I saw it! Why wouldn't someone take as much ski away as possible, and then add a massive fin?!
Now I just have to figure out two things. How do I start on this things, and how do I take this concept to a wakeboard?
First problem is tackled in this edit.
Second problem regarding cutting the ends off a wakeboard...future edit? Comment below.
Big shoutout to the @scroughriders for always hosting a good time for over the past 15 years, and has now formed the tradition of wrapping up the weekend with a fun and difficult challenge. Thanks to @SStruit for the action cam and @aquafarr for the use of the wall decor (Ski Skat) and let's see what happens next year.

I'm 65 now, I actually still have my Ski Skat. I like another poster mentioned I used it in the last 60's, early 70's. Mine was a tad different as the front toe hold is not fully covered it's open like the back of yours. I tried (once) to get up on it with no aid, after drinking half the lake, I said no, even as a young kid...lol But I got up with a ski and having my foot in the front toe hole keeping it out of the water the best I could as I got up with the other leg. One hard part for me was keeping it straight, but once all set, what fun and a HUGE spray of water, Hat's off to my father for figuring out the speed not to drown me lol. I had also ridden on Dog bones those were a trip within themselves. But the chair we screwed to an old pair of double skis was super fun.. Sitting in the chair going across the lake.. 🙂.. Thank you for the memories Shaun. and great job getting up.

I used to deep water start all the time like a slalom ski with the Ski Skat. Though that was with a 145 lbs 15 year old body. Loved that thing! Just lean back and spray everything!

I heard there were two sizes and this one I rode was the lil guy. Could be possible, but man it was a tiny little guy

used to have a Ski Scat and a Super Ski Scat in the 70's. Yes, they are hard to ride. You can deep water start with a Super, but I've always needed a 2nd ski to get up on the little one. I lived about a mile from Cypress Gardens...was a great place to grow up. Keep up the great content.

Nice! Didn't know there was a super but now will have to be on the lookout

That was hilarious. Can’t imagine someone using that and having a fun day on the lake for more than a few minutes at a time.

Shaun, c'mon man! You can't have a clapper On/Off boat! Every stratosphere raley you stick the boat wouldn't know what to do!!
    ON!!! OFF!!! ON!! OFF!!
Also, my dad had one of those skis, or similar. I think it was just a skateboard deck that he screwed a binding and fin to! haha
EDIT-Asked my dad...sent him this vid... he dropped a ski every time. He doesn't remember getting up with it. But he wanted me to pass along a thank you for this...brought back a lot of great memories for him.
    Thanks a ton Shaun.

Had a ski scat and dog bones as a kid in late 60'S and early 70"S. At 6' 2" our old forty horse had a hard time ripping me out with 2 skis. I always dropped a ski. Not enough hp to learn to barefoot so dog bones worked. I just started on a piece of round plywood put my feet down and it off I went. It was great fun. Part of fun was just learning to master something different.

I’m 68 and a ski skat when I was 16. Deep water start with it and a full size ski and after you’re up drop the big one and slide that foot in the rear.

I had a similar thought when I was out there but only had the spare wakeboard to go from. But noted and thanks!!

You inspired me to give it a try myself. I have had one for 10 years and didn’t know how to star. After a few attempts at a deep water start, I had to kick a ski but was fun!

Yeah, probably a standing or dock start on that "novelty" idea type of ski. Probably why it never took off and looked like it wanted more speed as well.

Yo, big fan of the channel. Recently got me back into the wakeboard gang over the wake skate but I took a big slam trying out an air raley. I only wake board behind a boat: any ear protection that you would recommend? Only asking after a perforated eardrum….

So for wakeboarding my board is too big and I’m thinking about getting a new one. I’m about 6 feet and like the boot size xx large. Any boards and bindings you would recommend?

I love the shape and feel of the O’Brien System board they make 119, 124, 135, and 140 sizes and they are pretty light too(quite lighter than my friends board) and they r only like 189$ too

      @@conner4512 I’m 6’2 175lbs and I use the 135, I’d say 135 would be best for you if you want a smaller board, I could almost use a 140

    • @Shaun.Murray
      @Shaun.Murray  3 роки тому

Sorry to contradict Protein but I'd suggest going way bigger than that. I'm 5'6" 147 and usually ride my 139, sometimes my 144. At your height Beast, go w the 150, and for sure no smaller than a 144. Pure Protein, give a bigger board a go for sure if you get the chance.
