Removing ice with a Stihl SH 86C leaf blower

Although this procedure will not work under all icing conditions, when the ice is just right, this can save quite a bit of time and effort.
I strapped a 4" wide blade (stiff putty knife) to a Stihl SH 86C leaf blower. I first used a lot of duct tape to secure the blade on the bottom of the blower tube. I then placed a piece of foam around the tube/knife handle and secured it tightly with a large dryer vent clamp.
So far, even with moderate jarring, the knife has not come loose.
As seen in the video, if you wait a few seconds, before pushing the blade firmly against the ice, the wind from the blower will often lift the ice and do the work for you.
I found this to be equally true if the ice has begun to melt and a liquid layer has formed below the ice.
While this will not work on every type of ice, it make short work of many different ice conditions. I look forward to trying it with a larger Stihl backpack model, when I have access to that unit.
This can be tough on your back, since you have to slightly bend, if you are a bit tall. I would like to create some type of handle that lowers the unit to reduce strain. Perhaps an extension on the blower tube would suffice.

Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
