  • Here is a quick review of the Stihl SH 86 CE shredder vac/blower. There are limited videos on this unit so I figured I would make a video to show you guys how it works and my honest opinion.

Great ! Thanks for doing this. I’ve had this same blower for about 5 yrs with attachments but never thought it was worth trying. Going to use it for the flower beds instead of blowing the mulch out !

I bought one last year primarily for sucking up clippings out of beds after trimming shrubs. Works great. Occasionally stem from the shrubs will get stuck in the impeller locking the unit up but doesn’t take much to clear it. Great system for cleaning up around in ground pools instead of blowing.

Got the 56 today after watching this. Doesn't replace the blower or vac, but definitely has it's place. Wind-swirl corners, garden beds and such were a perfect fit. I thought it would feel slow but using it was actually fairly efficient on time. Right on

Thank you for the video!! I had been considering getting this blower/vac for a little while now. I watched your video this morning, went and bought it, and am using it this afternoon. Works great!! We have a lot of commercial properties we take care of with a lot of corners in the parking lots that the leaves pile up in. It makes short work of them, bag is good size for being handheld for the most part, having to unzip and dump bag in dump trailer every 10-15 minutes still beats having to blow, rake, and then bag the leaves. Thanks again!!

Great machine, I use one in my business and it is excellent for patios! Fan blades do ware down after a while, due to the ingestion of small stones and pinecones etc, however replacement parts are cheap and easy to fit! 👍

I have my flower beds covered in 2" stones instead of mulch. Dead leaves fall down and get in between the rocks and will not blow out. Do you think this vacuum has enough suction to slightly roll or agitate the rocks to loosen the dead leaves and remove them?

I have just visited a Stihl Dealer today in Slovenia. Despite this model not being shown in the online Stihl catalogue for Slovenia, this shop actually had the SH86 C-E in stock. He pointed out that the new model on display no longer featured a metal shredder blade, unlike that shown in this video, but relied on the plastic fan in the same way that the mains electric powered version does and is therefore possibly not as effective, maybe? A backward step by Stihl, maybe someone could comment on this design change. I had gone to purchase the Husqvarna equivalent for my daughter as it was on special promotional offer at a discount over list price. This blower/vac does feature a metal shredding blade. I have found that my Stihl SH86 C-E which I have owned for over six years now, does not seem to pick up gravel, or stones, or walnuts (it is that season now and they get mixed in with leaves), indeed nothing of significant density like even small stones get sucked in. Such items just roll back out of the spout when you let off the throttle trigger and do not rattle around damaging the fan or cutter blade. The major clogging items I have come across are walnut leaves. These have long tough stems and tend to get wedged behind the the fan and also form a log jam where the outlet pipe connects onto the main blower body. The shredder blade does not effectively chop these up and they arrive relatively whole inside the collecting bag. Most other leaves without long stalks are collected and compacted very well. I take couple of those self erecting circular, fabric, 100 litre garden waste containers around with me to save frequent trips back to the compost bin because the vacuum bag seems to fill up quite rapidly.

@@SouthernStyleLawnCare Thank you, I got an echo cause it was closest to me at the time. I was thinking of replacing it with a stihl cause I like the brand better, but I can't use it for gutters if I can't adjust the shape. With the echo I can flatten the tip and it fits nicely in gutters, works awesome and in most cases cuts my time of "hand cleaning" in half. It's definitely extremely hard on the unit but worth it to save my back and time.

I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
