People need to get rid of scales. Muscle weighs more than fat, so for the first 90 to 120 days in a workout they really discourage people. Women also have their cycles 1ce a month, so a waist measurement can also give you a false or discouraging impression. Instead you should do stamina challenges 1ce every 30 days to see if your exercises are improving your health...like a short sprint down the street, dancing for the full length of a song, holding your breath, other breathing exercises, or even making a list of tasks and seeing if you can accomplish more on your off days after a good night's sleep...These are much better indicators. You can measure you waist 1ce ever 3 months with consistent exercises if you really need a physical number, but I wouldn't recommend more often. Also..I know it seems harder, but repetitive exercise only does so much. After 20mins of running, the calories burn much slower. So I personally would recommend a 90 day challenge of 10mins on the hoop followed by a 10min walking. That alone should show results. And for max results you have to calorie count...only eat your ideal body weight times 10 to lose weight without exercises (if you're more than that ideal weight). With exercise, you can add an extra 100 to 200 calories depending on what you burn. So my deal weight for instances is 140lbs. Multiple that times 10, and I can have 1,400 calories on a non working out day and maintain my weight (because that's what I already weigh). With exercise (I for instance do manual labor shifts 3 to 4 days a week for 12 hrs in a 120 degree environment), I can (and should) increase my calorie in take by several hundred calories (I usually increase it by 250 to 300). Keep in mind, after a while you should stop calorie counting, because it can be exhausting mentally. Originally, it's just a training guide to slim down til you're naturally less hungry. I'm not a personal trainer. These are just tips I've picked up in life over the years. I'm 34, and have sought the advice of friends who are trainers and military members, and these are the actions that have always yielded positive results. I've been as high as 150 (love handles) and as low as 125 (working out too much, with no yum yums in my diet.. and people though it looked odd on me). So I'm happy with a 140lb figure, and after keeping those tips in mind, I've always had success. Personally, I also avoid sweat pants, cause I know my lazy butt on my off days would not be able to fit into jeans a few days later. But that's a personal solution...I can't verify any data or outside opinions that support that as an effective method of maintaining the status quo on your waist line.😅 Anyway, I wish you girls the best of luck, and I loved the video and your feedback.
I got the rhythm of it almost immediately, but I did have to restart the ball a few times within 10 minute intervals. I found that doing the hoop motion in your belly and then kind of shifting your weight leg to leg keeps it going. I'm not sure if this works my belly right but it's alot of fun. My face was drenched when I got done with my 30 minutes.
This is how I do it too. I lost almost 2inches in my first week. I also kind of do a squat sometimes when it slows down and it helps me get it going. I'm more focused on how long I can keep it going. It's only day 6 for me and I can keep it going for about 40mins straight.
You two are fabulous! I just got mine and after two tries I’m still trying find my rhythm. You can’t move it like I hoolahoop (I looked like both of you day one!) and I’m doing more legs than hips presently - but the sack is going round. This will take some practice but I need it. Thank you for showing us what you both achieved, I think it’s something you should both be proud of :)
If it hurts your waist, you can always put a waist trainer on to give you that extra cushion. Also, practice hula hooping to music. It will take your mind off of the "oh gosh, I'm just standing in one spot" and "wondering if it's really going to work" mentality. Just have fun with it and you will see results. 😊
Woah- curveball! It wasn’t worth it to you? But you said the fat rolls went away? That’s ok, you are so much fun and you had the will to go to the gym and push a bit extra so you’ll fine something. I am gonna do 30 days- I am day two anyway. You are both awesome!
This video was totallyyyyyyyyy enjoyable to watch, thank you for sharing, great job!!! 🙂 and thank you for your honesty and funny personality, smiles. Great video :-)
Adjust your weight string. It was swinging out too far and hard to keep it going until I adjusted the weight string. There is a piece close to the weight for adjustment. Hope this helps
Its a learning curve, surprisingly. Took me a few days to figure out how to keep it going. After a while you get the hang of it and when the ball is suspended and smoothly circling you, you feel the burn in your abdomen.

I ABSOLUTELY love these ladies for being so honest, beautiful, relatable, funny, and so inspiring for black girls that look exactly like me!!!! I enjoyed watching you ladies working through your commitments to hooping. I've felt the same as you both when trying out something new and going through the same stages. A hard time getting the equipment going, then some fun, then boredom. You both are lovely women, bravo on completing the 30 days!
As of today, January 19, 2022, I am doing this every day for 5 minutes a day in each direction WITHOUT a weighted Hula Hoop. It seems like you could do the same moves without using anything and, for a shorter period of time to get the same results. I don’t know if it will work but I guess I will know in 30 days. If I can find this video again, I will try to remember to report back once a week. UPDATE: Today, Jan 25, 2022, it has now been one week since I started the Hula Hoop journey. I have now GAINED 1/4 inch around my waist. Certainly not what I was hoping for but, I am going to continue doing the Hula Hoop WITHOUT a Hula Hoop but, I AM changing my diet by following some of the ideas that Dr. Neil Barnard suggests. I will post again in 7 days and let you know how it is going.
If you removed that many links, that means it worked. You loss inches. That’s different from the weight loss from using a scale.Try doing the hula while watching a movie or listening to music.
I enjoyed watching this and found it reasurring that it gets easier to use. I am still at the stage it stops every few seconds. Watching after day 3 it was moving with ease. Gave me hope ;)
It might be too long, shorten the length. Also. You can try one foot in front of the other and rock back and forth or keep legs shoulder length apart and move side to side. With mine my butt kept lifting it up and I couldn’t hula. I actually have to hold it down for it to continuously spin with no issue
Any increase in activity level is better than none but the weight loss benefits from this contraption is minimal at best. It’s not building calorie burning lean muscle mass. More than likely any weight reduction was water weight; not body fat.
I have been wondering about this. That thing inside the hoop is going around and around which creates friction right? Friction creates heat. Heat expands plastic. So did she lose inches off her weight or does the plastic just expand over time?
I'm seriously debating getting this. I am very unfit because I sit around all the time so I need something very low impact. I also need to feel like Im making progress, even if it's just a tiny bit or I'll give up. My biggest scare is the thing coming undone but even if I just get some inches off my waist I'll consider that progress.
I read your comment so I rushed over to reply. I bought the smart hula hoop less than a month ago and I can't stop recommending it enough. I have lost 5 kg, 5 cm around my waist and 12 cm around my belly region. I have removed 4 links so far and all this in under 4 weeks. I look forward to using it every day. I am literally obsessed. It doesn't cost a lot so you really have nothing to lose. The brand I purchased is Tomoin and it's been very strong and reliable. I've had no issues of it falling apart.
I thoroughly enjoy my weighted hula hoop. I use it while I'm watching my fav shows, 30-60 minutes daily. It beats laying around doing nothing. If one looks at it as work it can definitely be boring. Make it fun, add light hand weights abs music.
The issue was that y’all were expecting weight loss. I think the point is more so to tone the abdomen and less of a weight loss journey unless you’re doing other things with it
This exactly, it’s not for weight loss at all. Weight loss only happens when you’re in a calorie deficit, the hula hoop is just like any other equipment it’s meant to work out and tone their body
i was going to buy one, but i don't know now. i don't think i would do it everyday for 30 days but once a week and add on other things on other days like treadmill, elliptical, weight lifting and going outside for walks would probably work.
So, she is also going to the gym and not just hooping, well, the results won't be accurate unless ur just using the hoop then showing progress and its gonna take u really doing it for a longer period of time too, I didn't see that weight even really swinging like it should either so if you barely put in effort then ur barely gonna get results. Of you're doing it right then it will strengthen ur core, gluten and legs and that's why u switch directions too. My 1st use I felt the burn in my glutes and legs
The fact that she took that many pieces off of the hoop means that it worked and it worked fantastically. Too many people look at the scales and think it’s just fat. But it’s not. So I'm happy with a 140lb figure, and after keeping those tips in mind, I've always had success.
Personally, I also avoid sweat pants, cause I know my lazy butt on my off days would not be able to fit into jeans a few days later. But that's a personal solution...I can't verify any data or outside opinions that support that as an effective method of maintaining the status quo on your waist line.😅
Anyway, I wish you girls the best of luck, and I loved the video and your feedback.
I started off going for 5 mins then kept increasing it I'm up to 20 mins so nearly there
I just got mine today and it takes a few minutes to get your rhythm right but one you do it’s actually quite fun……keep up the good work ladies
Hey, where did you purchase
This was really cool. I was very excited to see at the end she was down four clips. Great job hope you keep it up
Thank you for doing the review and your honesty. It has helped me make my decision.
Here I am with my weighted hula hoop on, watching your weighted hula hoop video. I am cracking up, because it’s so relatable to your day 1.
I get anxiety thinking that ball is gonna go straight into your TV screen
Lmao
My favorite part: I'm not wearing a bra and I don't care!! LOL. I can SO identify with that!!
The things y'all do for Buzzfeed. I hope corporate appreciates you. It tones you and tightens your muscles. Better you than me!
I just want to know which hoop you were using. I want to get one and don't know which to choose.
So proud of you two!! Totally inspiring!! Maybe recording is what I need to do to keep exercise lol
At the gym “what👏am 👏 I 👏doing👏here” omg I LOVE you and have not finished video hahahhahaha
I’m in love with these two they’re amazing girls their honesty and their personalities are so I don’t know trying to find the right word awesome!
I just purchased one on TikTok after seeing the before and after pics I absolutely love it very therapeutic and fun!
I thought these were ridiculous until I saw this. I’ll be buying one now
Go get one.it really works
This was so entertaining 🤣. Thanks for sharing. I saw this on Amazon and had to see a review on it.
So inspiring getting my Crew together this will be fun. Great job girls can't wait to see my differences on this waist line 😍
Back and forth movements luv 💖
Adjust your weight string. It was swinging out too far and hard to keep it going until I adjusted the weight string. There is a piece close to the weight for adjustment. Hope this helps
Its a learning curve, surprisingly. Took me a few days to figure out how to keep it going. After a while you get the hang of it and when the ball is suspended and smoothly circling you, you feel the burn in your abdomen.
This is a sign. I need one 🤔
This video made me get one too😂😂😅😅
I LITERALLY just bout one lol
@@BerkeleyFoolery what the name that you bought and where ?
Sending melanated love, peace, blessings, and beautiful vibes to you ladies all the way from the U.S.A!!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY love these ladies for being so honest, beautiful, relatable, funny, and so inspiring for black girls that look exactly like me!!!! I bought my hula hoop yesterday and can't wait to get it!
"I want to go home but I'm already home. What are my options?" 😆
She's quite funny and I can see myself acting the fool and loosing the belly fat and love handles with this, thanks for sharing ❤
Update?
Any progress?

How's everything going?
Also here for a last ditch update check-in?
If you removed that many links, that means it worked. You loss inches. That’s different from the weight loss from using a scale.Try doing the hula while watching a movie or listening to music.
I wanna go home, but I’m already at home😂😂😂 First off u guys are extremely entertaining!! The music is spot on I AM so amped to use hula hoop💪🏾
I enjoyed watching this and found it reasurring that it gets easier to use. I am still at the stage it stops every few seconds. Watching after day 3 it was moving with ease. Gave me hope ;)
I really enjoyed watching them! I'm actually motivated to try one!
" maybe I'm a clockwise girl"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very fun and informative video 😂❤😊thank you BuzzFeed UK
Maybe it's me but I can't get the darn ball to keep moving . It makes me feel like I have no rhythm ughhh help
Just keep trying!
It might be too long, shorten the length. Also. You can try one foot in front of the other and rock back and forth or keep legs shoulder length apart and move side to side. With mine my butt kept lifting it up and I couldn’t hula. I actually have to hold it down for it to continuously spin with no issue
You have done so well!!! I have been doing mine for a few days now and you’ve inspired me more
Hula hooping is simply fun while being a workout. You can play your favorite songs while hooping and just jamming it out.
I’m sat here laughing but I know full well I would be in the same situation where I wouldn’t be able to get it to move 🤣🤦🏼♀️
Thank you for your honest review!! Great job ladies!! I just got mine can’t wait to see the results!!
Did you ever see results ?

Y’all make this look fun 💜
where do you get a large one of these, there's so much crap out there I want one that actually tracks
I loved watching and the honest feedback
Any increase in activity level is better than none but the weight loss benefits from this contraption is minimal at best. It’s not building calorie burning lean muscle mass. More than likely any weight reduction was water weight; not body fat.
I have been wondering about this. That thing inside the hoop is going around and around which creates friction right? Friction creates heat. Heat expands plastic. So did she lose inches off her weight or does the plastic just expand over time?
Great review from 2 different ppl. Love it!
I'm so glad that I bought one.....put some music on and it feels effortless even though I'm sweating by the end
Really enjoyed this video. So real. Love it.
These to crack me up. I'm glad I saw this, been wondering if I want to try this.
Not me in the comment section yelling .. throw your hips around 😂🙌🏽 love the video
It was the i waant to go home but im already home that got me 😂😂❤💀
I'm seriously debating getting this.
What were the starting measurements and ending measurements
Did you try to see if you could do it with a real hoop afterwards?
What brand did you ladies use?
I can see a difference your waist is much smaller. Great job. I know that is Ali harder to do than it looks.
What make of Hula Hoop did you buy and where from please
omg you guys's video is so fun to watch im loving every moment of it! i bought the same hula hoop and idek how to do it lmao
If you shorten up the string on the ball it’s easier I promise!!
How do u shorten it?
Thanks fa sharing ladies! 😘😘
I shortened the length of the rope holding the weight and it works much better and u feel the burn more
thank you for the advice! :>, although how do you shorten it???
i was going to buy one, but i don't know now. i don't think i would do it everyday for 30 days but once a week and add on other things on other days like treadmill, elliptical, weight lifting and going outside for walks would probably work.
I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one struggling in the beginning
You took off 4 or more sections. That’s crazy and represents inches!
Every day for a month? Are rest days not a thing in the UK?
How do I attach the ball
