As a MW 5 Merc's fan, having 4 AC2's Rapid Fires on my Mauler is just the biggest walking Flak cannon that is so fun to pilot. I know this is all Battletech based and rules and all, and I grew up to this, but never played it. MW5 Mercs is my first time getting to this world and it's fun and the sandbox helps me create a fun story arc for my Company. We deliver Pizza Supplies across the inner sphere. However there are no other forms of ultra except 5's in the game. Unless mods yadda yadda yadda (Console here).
I haven't played MW5 (Yet) but sounds like fun, but the mechanics in a video game are often quite different than tabletop. Do the Ultras ever jam in MW5?
@Khealos they don't jam.....no wait I believe they do actually. But my Mechs I have with AI pilots never seem to jam or over heat (I built them that way). But they well indeed overheating if your alpha striking several at once. I would have to double check on that. But as I said I am not on PC so no Mods for me. I have watched many players do Battletech at an old game store I used to frequently go to. And I played it a couple times in the Navy as well. But never truly immersed myself into it.
One thing worthy of note about autocannons: they are fantastic in combined arms against infantry. Unlike a medium laser whose 5 damage will only kill one trooper, an AC/5 will kill five troopers, ten in open terrain. Between that and inferno ammo for SRMs, the oft-maligned Shadow Hawk is a fantastic support unit against vehicles and infantry. The difference between RACs and UACs is that you can unjam the RAC in-game, while the UAC is out of commission for the rest of the match.
That is true, but let's be honest - the VAST majority of Battletech players don't play combined arms. We are moving more into it, but really are using the BSP rules as opposed to the crunch Total Warfare. Digging it so far. Also true about the unjamming for the UAC, which is why we either house/optional rule to unjam it. A friend had fielded the Widowmaker Direwolf, and the first time he fired the UAC 20 it jammed - which is one reason I'm not a fan of either UACs or RACs. Thanks for watching!
Good video! I look forward for more of the Weapon Series! Also, you should add the Heat generated at the Chart of the chosen weapon with the damage, range etc.
@ I watch a lot of Tex Talks BattleTech. Haven’t played any of the games in 25 years though. Sometimes I have no idea what he is talking about with the weapons. Your video was super informative. Could be a nice little niche for you.
I mean, in game, they are both AC/10s. 10 points of damage, decent range, and 10 rounds/ton of ammo. In terms of in universe - the Luxor-d had known issues with ammo feeds, but unless playing with quirks, nothing really game affecting
This is a great video and warms my FedSun heart. I hope you continue this series, it's very educational.
Glad I can help out, and I plan to keep going!
Thanks for watching
As a Davion fan, this is my weapon of choice.
Well, no one is perfect hah!
Thanks for watching.

Have yet to play some BT games but LB-10s my beloved
Love me some LBX action!
Thanks for watching
Auto cannon firing cars is effectively an ac20 though.
Haha, good point

Great idea! I figured I'd do that for the lasers, especially when it comes to the Clan ones.
I enjoy all of Khealos’s Gaming Table videos 🎉🎉happy new year 🎉
Thank you! I'm looking forward to making more in '25!
Love a good weapons video
Thank you!

@@crowvamp04 that's what I'm working on, especially as our group is trying to get into later eras with more advanced tech
I tend to play houserule of no minnimum range on autocannons, makes the "bad" autocannons a lot more interesting.
This makes sense, with missles it makes alot more sense they'd have a minimum range, while with autocannons it doesn't make sense .
The golden bb has ruined many MechWarriors days.
Big gun go boom, dakka dakka
Hopefully it's the gun that goes boom - and not the ammo hah!
I need you to tell me the pros and cons of a kaliyama class 10 and a luxor-d autocannon
