The fact that Johnny Depp spent $3 million giving Hunter a proper sendoff by shooting his ashes out of a giant cannon, and honoring his friends wishes, back in 2005, make Depp cool with me forever, no matter what.

@@hlf_coder6272 The Woody Creek Tavern. I used to have to make deliveries to that place. I used to hate having to go there. Surprisingly, the people that worked at and patroned that place were even more snooty and pretentious than the people at most of the places up in Aspen if you can actually believe it. Maybe it wasn't always like that. This was years after Hunter's death.

@Nedd Flanders Johnny Depp was present at Hunter's private funeral, along with Bill Murray, Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Senators John Kerry and George McGovern. The private ceremony was held at Hunter S. Thompson's home in Woody Creek, Colorado. It's called honoring a friend, something you obviously don't understand.

Being a good friend to Hunter is straight-up cool, and I respect the sh1t out of Johnny, but Hunter was unique and magnificent and uncompromising all by himself. Hunter is the Muhammad Ali of living by your own rules. As Mike Tyson said about Ali; "Ali's a giant... no other fighter can match him... he died for this sh1t!"... Hunter died for his lifestyle. There's a really important dynamic that needs to exist in order for an interview to work well. Famous TV interviewers often say that the key is listening, but it's more than that. The interviewee has to be willing to talk in the first place, which is why TV interviews so often seem clunky. Usually the guest is there purely because they are promoting a product, often after weeks of similar appearances and junkets. But in a situation like this, you know that Lawrence has an immediate head start because they are there to talk and listen and learn and enjoy. They have time and inclination to let it unfold.

A lot of armchair quarterbacks ripping on Johnny here but overall I think he deserves some credit. If you know anything about him his family moved something like 15 times when he was a kid, and I don't think his dad was ever much of a part in his life, which is tough when you are a boy. He comes out to Hollywood in the very early 80s with his band and meets Nick Cage (Who's real name is Nick Coppola), who gets him into acting. Has a part in Nightmare On Elm Street in 84' then Platoon in 86' then hits it huge with 21 Jump Street then to the top from there. What I'm getting at is for a guy with humble beginnings he's an awesome A list actor who was superb in every role I've ever seen him in, and he's also true to his beliefs and turned down stuff that didn't have substance. He's also damn likable, and not full of himself and that is why Hunter, Brando, and others who normally didn't get close to many ppl liked Johnny Depp. Too many ppl are too quick to judge!

@@marcusjones2517 I know plenty about Johnny Depp. He is very down to earth and humble. We’re talking about a guy who bought a club so that young celebrities could go out and be themselves without being harassed not so he could make money. We’re talking about a guy who paid for the defense of wrongly convicted men who were convicted on the sole basis that they were different. We are talking about a guy who goes to hospitals dressed as Jack Sparrow just to cheer up sick children. A guy who said quote “you’ll never have to wait tables again.” To his mom as he paid for her to live. A guy who destroyed his own billboard because he didn’t like that he was holding a gun on it. He isn’t arrogant and nobody who knows him has one awful thing to say about him, aside from his abusive ex wife.

That was Michael Herr who became addicted to being in the field on patrol with Marine platoons in Vietnam when he was on assignment for a famous magazine in the mid late 60s. He just kept going back. He was in Ka Sonn when the Tet offensive happened. All the craziest scenes from Apocalypse Now are lifted from Dispatches.

Depp aint lost his, he puts it into the characters he plays and the way he is when out of highly social situations, this guy is without a doubt one of the better actors there has ever been.
