Hey Joe, nice video! I flashed mine using Dai Hai and Samuel's videos. One thing the recommend is to disconnect the display board from the main board. The connector is right underneath the front edge and you don't have to take the case apart. They said when the display board is connected during flashing that it can introduce 'chatter' in the serial communications. cheers!
excellent video, I'v actually ordered an A5, just waiting for it to arrive, so I'm eager to understand all this efficiency tinkering for it before hand. thanks.
Hi I tried downloading the new firmware, but the program froze and now when I use the printer none of the options work. I can still enter every setting and option, but nothing moves or works.
HI I USE TO HAVE THE MARLIN ON MY A5 BUT AFTER HAVING SOME PROBLEM WITH PRINTING STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF PRINT I WENT TO INSTALL THE MARLIN AND LCD AGAIN AND NOW THE 3 AXIS ARE NOT MOVING AT ALL . HEATING BED AND NOZZLE WORK ALSO SENSOR ARE WORKING AND SHOWING THE TEMP. WHATS WRONG WITH MY A5
One more question. Will there be any other adjustments to do after updating the firmware and before I can start printing again? I mean do I have to recalibrate X,Y, Z-axis, extruder and maybe even the current of stepper motors?
You've got me interested in the JGAURORA A5. Wondering if you think that this machine could be modified to also work with a laser? What other mods are possible? I like the ease of use, but I'm also looking for something that can be modified to grow as I learn more about what can be done. Seeing the ability to modify the firmware makes me smile.
Converting a 3D printer to a laser is not something I recommend as especially the fumes are hazardous and stray light risk very high. If your looking for a laser, I suggest buying a dedicated unit with the safety features built in. However I have been very happy with the performance of the printer easily since upgrading the firmware!
I have a problem with this video. When I try to upload it always fails to upload. I'm so tired of " avrdude: stk500v2_getsync (): timeout" and "avrdude: stk500v2_getsync (): timeout communicating with programmer ". It boils my blood each time I read "Failed uploading: uploading error: exit status 1". I managed to change the look of the printer but it dosen't work on its own. Each time I turn the JGAURORA I get constant flashing. What in the world am I supposed to do?
Hi I still trying to upgrade firmware on my mac. Where do you set the speed connection. I could see that you had some problems with the serial data speed. Regards
If your having issues try disconnecting the front LCD as that is likely your issue. The Baud rate is set int eh IDE under baud, not in front a computer with the IDE installed but doubt that is the issue...
Thx for the Windoze 10 tip. I'll be doing that. Dunno if you are aware (or viewed) there's a somewhat (maybe more than somewhat) negative vid about this machine concerning electrical shock, i.e., dangerous high voltage current feedback.
Do you have the link? As I have disassembled mine (you can see in the whats inside video) and don't see how as it has a grounded and sealed PWS. However I always caveat this with Chinese quality control is questionable and it is possible something made it out of the factory which shouldn't have...
It has not been proven that the A5 shocked him at all. He is blaming the A5 yet never tested it and admits he daisy chained surge strips. It's questionable at best that the A5 is at fault although it could be, but nothing was tested to determine. The majority of the comments from people with experience in his comments section feel the same way.
+3D Printer Junkie Yes, I agree mostly, i.e., I've missed "the majority" reference. Sorry about that. Regardless, I kinda thought it was little more than some sort of public apology to and directly for J. Prusa. Just my opinion/observation, of course. lol! PS: Looks like I'll be checking out your UA-cam channel. Thx.
4FunRC I read all the comments under the video and among those who knew what they were talking about it was 60 / 40 not the A5 with the other 40 saying bad power supply in the A5. It very well may be exactly as he says, but he did not test enough to state that and should have done so before posting. IMO. Great, I hope you find something useful there, it's a little more mods and other things to print based than other channels, I want it to be different, I watch numerous other channels and make a point not to copy them, I appreciate the work they put in! There was just a lack of primarily mod based channels so I started posting info up.
Thank you for the video....i am waiting for mine to be delivered from gearbest and have heard that the homing is a bit inaccurate the stock marlin firmware as it does it too quickly...i also like your video on tramming also ....very intuitive ...keep up the good work :)
Thanks for commenting! Yes the homing is ok in the stock firmware but very fast whereas the Marlin firmware slows it down to avoid over shoot which is an improvement and also quiets it WAY down! See my bonus video tomorrow...
I could not install. When the arduino is uploading, the following error message appears: avrdude: stk500v2_command (): unknown status 0x01 avrdude: stk500v2_disable (): failed to leave programming mode
I followed this process for my A5 exactly. And it completely messed up my printer. The bed wont heat, the calibrations is way off. If the bed tries to move it makes a grinding noise. Leveling wont work it takes the arm to a weird position. Raise and lover is set too high and crashes into the top. What heck?
It sounds as if the "config" for this firmware does not match your printer. Please ensure you have a workable version for your printer. SInce it is doing "something" tells me the firmware itself successfully loaded and it is the settings in config.h which do not match your physical printer. Worst case is you could edit the config.h to match but that will be a lot of work and you will need to know your way around a bit...
Hmmm, trying to do a test compilation as you show in your video I first get this error: #error "Pins for this chip not defined in Arduino.h! If you have a working pins definition, please contribute!" I'm working on a Surface Pro i7 and did install the Arduino IDE from Marketplace. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the info. I didn't see the whole video at first. For first try I did it step by step with your video and just included the missing library. Now I saw that Arduino Uno board was selected.
Wasn't too dangerous. I even didn't have the correct USB-cable. Just wanted to try out the first steps without realy updating the FW on the printer. Now, after setting up the correct board/processor and including the missing library I know that the test compile does run flawlessly and the real FW-update can be done today in the evening ;-) Thanks so far for your help and patience.
The risk is typically in the connectivity to the control as once it starts and if it fails to finish, the printer is a brick unless you both can flash a new boot loader as well as know how to. The JGAURORA A5 does have a bootloader connector inside as an FYI...
This this, I"m sure, a boneheaded mistake but I'm receiving this message upon compiling... "fatal error: MarlinConfig.h: No such file or directory". I can see the file "MarlinConfig.h" in the folder. Help. thanks, Dan
yes... this is the full message, C:\Users\dlsch\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp1_Marlin-1.1.8-JG-Aurora-A5 (1).zip\Marlin-1.1.8-JG-Aurora-A5\Marlin\Marlin.ino:31:26: fatal error: MarlinConfig.h: No such file or directory #include "MarlinConfig.h"
Typically an error of this nature is (1) incorrect board or processor selection or (2) incompatible IDE. In the video I am using the most current IDE (I have used both the download-able version as well as the one from the windows store successfully). As a side suggestion, try moving the expended dir "Marlin-1.1.8-JG-Aurora-A5" to be its own dir say in documents or download as "C:\Users\dlsch\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp1_Marlin-1.1.8-JG-Aurora-A5 (1).zip" looks funny, might be nothing but I have no idea how your system is set up...
Got it ... you MUST have Marlin in it's own folder, if not, "The wheels fall off", as StevenQ-NE-UK (UA-cam) talks about in a video called "Arduino IDE & Marlin Configuration.h". You had shown it in it's own folder... I missed the importance of this. Thanks for your help. I don't see a Patron page for you... I have very much liked what I have seen over the last couple of days and would liked to support your efforts. Best, Dan

Thanks for sharing, yes caught that in Dai Hai video after making this video. I got it to work, but had to do it a couple times...
thank you so much i have been fighting with mine for hours it turned out i needed that driver very much appreciated
Them drivers can trip you up! Had an issue with CH340 USB drivers on my CNC yesterday drive me nuts!
I don't have the same file as you show. But when I did try to upload I get an error timeout message
Man, great video so far but I hit a snag. arduino is giving me an error saying #include “MarlinConfig.h”. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thanks Joe, very well explained. Cheers, JAYTEE

Since homing changes a little, I would re-tram the bed but that's all I did...
