“All it took was some gentle persuasion to knock it off” *Beats it with a wrench*
Yea lmao that was hilarious
Literally heard it and wondered if someone mentioned it aha
Sounds like Armageddon !! ;¬)
Pretty sure those were pliers lol
Bdawg R oh yeah my bad
That shirt is magical Angus.
Stingrayyyyys
VERY honest reviews - once again you make it worth to be a subscriber! thanks!
That little cat every single Chinese printer comes with is for luck. And given how well they're made, they're gonna need a lot of it...
+Coaster Labs hah! So it's a lucky cat it prints at all?
pretty much XD
yap they should include it with anet a8 so it won't catch on fire
your channel is one of the reasons I got Into 3d printing keep it up always love new tips and tricks
I just got mine this week and it's absolutely incredible. It looks like they've fixed most of the issues that have been listed in a lot of the reviews. I'm a first-time printer and it's been so easy to learn and use. The print quality is excellent and comparable to higher-end machines that my friends have.
Angus, your honesty is absolutely refreshing. Loving your content from a fellow Aussie.
I love your channel and a fellow Australians. I got this as my first printer and i like it
Thanks for keeping it real and not sucking up to sponsors that give you stuff !
You really stepped up your shirt-game over the holidays! As usual, great video, keep 'em coming and a happy new year!
Their ad videos are a must see for sure! looks like a decent printer. Also i would love how you take supports aways without being gentle :P
800k Subs Congratulations 🎊🎉🍾🎈
Thanks for the review! have been curious about these machines.
one of the best reviews i seen Well done buddy.
I love these, keep up the good work!!
Thanks for including the triceratops skull in the description! I'm totally gonna print that once i'm done with the other five big things i'm printing fml
This great content makes my muse💪🏽❤️😊👌🏽 Great job again Angus.
Excellent video Angus! thank you!
Again a great review pointing out the good and also bad things about it. Some UA-camrs just praise the printer and hope to get their cut via the links. Thanks for your honest opinion Angus!
Great review, thanks Angus
Great video, like always
Thanks for the mention, Angus!
JgAurora does need to do something about their product specs listings. It's not acceptable.
+Da Hai Zhu Agreed! Hope they get it sorted
It looks like the A7 specs, although I don't think the wifi works on that either...
there is wifi on A7
The "money cat" is not Chinese it's Japanese and it's the beckoning cat or Maneki Neko. It has some nice legends behind it and it has it's own temple in Japan.
Love the shirt Angus!
5:55 Angus, I experienced something similar after moving my printer slightly, and changing from 0.3 to 0.2 for the first layer.
I then printed the exact model again after re-adjusting my bed and was actually able to remove the rest from the print bed.
Of course that wasn't sticking as crazy as yours seemed to be.
Wow man wow... that triceratops skull came out great... gotta figureout what the heck is going on with mine.
+Uncle Jessy the bottom is super thin, is that where it's failing?
Maker's Muse should have been more clear my prints on the machine. Not the triceratops... that print does look crazy cool though
Can you easily add a enclosure foe abs?
Here's the dumbest 3D question ever:
Why isn't advisable to turn the bed heating off once the printing reaches a certain height, to save on power for those very long printing sessions? It seems the finished print does not easily comes off, even with the bed at room temperature.
Stadd Spotwelder because parts will peel off and it uses so little power you will only save less than a penny in your electricity bill by turning it off.
Great review, Angus. It's really interesting how they put out some weird information, I think it could have something to do with bad translation. It sounds like a decent machine for it's price though, but as you've mentioned it's always a gamble.
oh gearbest. Different plug. EU and US
Watching this as I'm designing a model with M3 screws tapped into a printed part.
I'm doing my JGAurora review right now, and I just checked. My Z-axis stabalizers are injection molded. This could be a greater printer than it already is if they would just open up about what they're doing.
+3D Printing Professor I might email and ask for the updated parts as my printed ones are stuffed. It could be so good, they need to hire on an English marketing team asap if they want to be taken seriously.
"The miracle is coming right now our way". Perhaps the English-speaking marketing execs are en route already.. ;)
I got an A1 last month and all the parts are legit.
Man. It shows that you've been hitting the gym. You look great! And you talk with much more confidence and power than in your other videos. Coincidence? Or is it just you wanting to start the new year off on the right foot? Well you certainly did :)
As a sparky I have to say I love your choice for your support removal tool otherwise known as an electrician's hammer :) Love you man
Screen is just an mks tft32, and likely an mks board. The touchscreen actually has its own ARM processor, and acts as a serial host talking to the printer board via tx/rx pins. I actually use this touchscreen on my printers, they work well, except for the temperature update you noticed. Nice thing is the lcd graphics and some of the menus are editable. Take a look at the makerbase GitHub.
Long story short thats why you see the Wifi info in the menu. Buy a mks esp wifi module, plug it into the back of the screen, and you can then connect over a wifi serial bridge.
I still have my A5 that I bought in February 2018, I got mine from gear best undamaged and have used it for well over a thousand hours and it's working fine :)
love how you have always had the Tronxy on the shelf in the back ground. i own one, have done for a long time now.
Early congratulations on 1 million
JGAurora now have the A5S and the A1. I got the A1 and I'm fairly impressed so far at the price point. I did have an issue with the Z axis last week but appear to have fixed that by reseating the connectors.
I have the "Updated" version from Gearbest, as far as I can tell so far they changed out the heated bed. The glass on mine is removable from the heating element and the connector on the heated bed is now downward facing (as well as cleaning up some of the wiring in and around the case), as being mentioned in some of Da Hai's videos.
I'd forgotten about those videos! Lol. Man that's good stuff!
I'm so confused when it comes to finding my first 3D printer. I was looking at this but after your video I'm skeptical. I've never owned a 3D printer. Im looking for something in the $500 range. I really don't need something this big either. Thanks for your video! I subscribed!
I've never seen button nose fence pliers on UA-cam before, that's awesome
Never heard of this printer, never thought it would be this good
I busted out laughing with the filament sensor alarm XD
Fully agree with Angus' take on this one. The machine performs WAAAAY better than I had anticipated or hoped for. On the FB JG forum, we've been adding bed level systems (IR or BL, take your pick) and have the most recent new Marlin version running on it. The icky part cooler has gotten a couple of new, way better alternatives. In terms of "oh bloody heck my part doesn't release" ? Don't take the hammer. Several people stated it helped when they heated up the bed to a much higher temp (90°C) than regular PLA would need, and they let it cool down after again at which point the "stuck like glue" part did pop off. Just a tip. The advertising part though ? Yeah, it's very, very odd. Also in terms of "upgraded version" ect, that's one of these other oddities, but MAYBE it's connected to the fact the first JGA5's used printed parts in the movement system, where the currect ones use machined metal parts.
It's kinda amazing how well the print quality is even for these Chinese machines. I have an Anet A8, and the print quality is amazing (assuming you tune it up).
This is why during the stream I suggested you try to make a more intense torture test, maybe one that you use if your lattice cube works. I mean the purpose of the torture test is to see what a 3D Printer has trouble doing, mainly so you know what to avoid and/or compensate for in the future.
Angus I was wondering... You said you are an engineer in a video a few years ago if I recall correctly have you ever thought of designing a 3d printer of even a collaborative design with Tom Sanladerer ? Any interest to you? Even a DIY option for upgrading like Tech2c's hypercube?
Great review! Were you able to discern what the control board was, and how difficult it would be to add a BLTouch or other probe?
Did the PLA supports come with the triceratops' file or did you have to add them on a 3d software for it to help print the model out?
The removable magnetic print surface and self leveling bed specs were taken from the A7 model like the one reviewed by Naomi Wu.
There is 2 on gearbest because one has the us plug and one has the eu.
Good review thanks
Hey Angus, thank you very much for all the great content, do you have a link to the model at 5:16? Or is that your torture cube, just dropped below the print bed in the slicer?
"The name's Stingray, Angus Stingray."
Where's Irwin when you need him.
Oh that's right :P
Never though i'd see you here
lol, good to see ya here MTB, this is so funny to run into you guys
OMG that A7 video is the funniest thing I've seen.
ok, thanks! this is my second printer and I did my first small prints with it but I experience massive warping on large PLA parts, resulting in disastrous fails... I'm not really sure why and I already tried many suggestion... any advice?
On GearBest the two printers are US Plug and EU plug, both are updated with newest firmware.
Is this machine 12v or 24v ? how fast does the bed heats ?
I've been using and modding a used one I got on OfferUp. It mods pretty well so far. You can load Marlin or Klipper on it, give it an all metal hotend with V6 volcano, convert to direct drive... The great part is the large bed on it.
BTW: US "NC" threads into plastic parts work quite well. It is cheaper than using specialty plastic screws.
Hi Angus,
I dont know if someone say the same as me but i guess the difference between the 2 printer on GB website is because one has EU plug and the other has US plug.
Keep the great job!
Greetings from Portugal!
That shirt is awesome
That shirt is mesmerizing...
Actually, I bought the Ultrabase yesterday. Looking forward to it!
You are the best!!!!
The prints are tight, Isn't it what it's all about? Got to love the color touch screen, resume and out of filament features. Printers need to be a little heavy for best results.
Yes, that ad video really was special...
5:25 the build plate is only for pla (max 240°)
I just bought one and the plastic fittings are now injection moulded and the glass bed is now held on with metal clips so removable.
How did you manage to get such good looking prints ? Having a little trouble fine tuning mine, it all seems to come out very rough
good shirt angus
Do you guys trust gearbest to buy printers? I am a bit hesitant to buy a TronXY X5S because it is so cheapon there
what setting did you use?
Hey! :)
Great video as always.
I have the anycubic prusa i3 and was thinking about buying their "new" one, i3 mega and was wondering, since I haven't found videos from you about it yet, if you could do a review? :)
Hi Angus, about the part "Automatic Material Recognition" is about the specs of the filament at what material it is and the amount of the plastic in the spool, melting temp, etc. Actually i saw it at a group page that his filament came with chip. And i dont know if that printer have that feature.
whats the layer height for your printed models?
where did you get the Triceratops file Angus?
Is that a discount Fabio? My goodness.
Speaking of questionable specs, I don't think this machine actually has anything near a 320 mm vertical build volume. I tried printing a bust that was 285mm tall, and the printer basically got stuck at the top one or two centimeters because the gantry couldn't go any higher. I think it just kept grinding over the top of the model. What's worse, the printer basically broke after that and I can no longer get the hot end to move except to home, and the nozzle and heat bed no longer heat up. An email to support only resulted in their request to use a multimeter to check continuity of various wires (not something I am able to do) or to disassemble the printer and look for loose wires (tricky due to the construction of the printer). It's a shame because I was pretty impressed with it before all of this happened.
Nice, Angus! I think I've watched at least three reviews of this printer, so far - and I'm not even interested in buying another printer - LOL. All three reviewers, You, Sexy Cyborg, and Joe at DIY3DTECH. All have given mostly positive reviews, with several caveats. It is truly a strange one. But, a strange one that prints very well, and has some features available in few sub-$800 machines. I have to agree (with Joe, I believe) that this might be very well placed in schools and such - especially in earlier grades. The enclosed areas for safety are a plus there. After seeing Sexy Cyborg's print of your torture test, it had me wondering if there might have been some post-printing cleanup. But, after Joe's review, and now yours, it seems to be printing fantastic parts - especially for a $360 printer that was ready to print in 10 minutes or so.
Had I not already bought two printers, I would certainly consider this one. With a few relatively minor upgrades, a tinkerer would have an excellent sub-$500 printer. We'll see. I'm with you - better marketing, and better English translations would be a huge plus! Thanks Angus!
Another reviewer mentioned that one of the larger printers had wifi on the box and in the menus but it wasn't enabled yet. They thought it was a case of false advertising.
+SrgntBallisticGaming that definitely is false advertising! The A5 didn't advertise it so it's less of a big deal that it didn't function.
Maker's Muse it worries me about the company a bit. The printers seems to print very well. But it looks like they kinda soft launch products with moving targets for the final design/features.
I understand things change in the development process. But the inconsistencies between what's on their site, retailers listing and the printer are concerning.
I wouldn't suggest ppl pre-order from them based on this. but the print quality looked Sooooo nice.
For sure! Definitely a concern.
Ever though about reviewing the maker select v2? It's one of the more popular ones, it would be cool to hear your thoughts on it!
Care to share a Cura Profile, or slicer settings if you're using S3D..
yep the only difference between the two on gearbest is the cable. They did the same thing with the Ender-2.
Also for z homing, check the screws that secure the limit switch. They might have gotten knocked loose, or wasnt tightened right at the factory, and its litterally wiggling around between homing's. Which is why you're getting spotty results.
I have the same printer and I like it. I received the same one u did I dont know why on gear best it’s different. It is awesome
There are hand-screws under the platform at each corner. The fact they decided to put hand screws there so its easy to take it off by hand, i'm thinking that's what they meant by that statement on their amazon.
Is it worth getting over CR-10/CR-10S?
Great review! I am very stuck between getting this or the cr10 but after seeing the bed problems I’ll probably end up going cr10. Anyone got any other recommendations?
thanks again....
This printer is peaking my interest. I wonder if that bed platform material can be purchased by itself somewhere. Right now I just use a aluminum tooling plate with tape on my custom belt printer. Prints are flat but a pain to remove at times. Would like to find a removable surface made of material like that or what on the new Prusa printers.
The difference in the two GearBest products seems to be the EU/US plug.
That filament alarm freaked out both my cat and dog. Lol
Heh sorry about that. Freaked me out too
Didn't see it amongst the other comments, I think the description is of the A7, saw Naomi Wu made a review of it recently it does have a magnetic bed and some strange spool holder that raises/lowers the holder from the inside, and it seems to be a own design of the spools too, however not so good to mix the stats on their own website!
Your Review seemed very fair. I almost bought this, it's so damn close... I hope they release a revision with auto leveling.
+SensibleGaming the community has created custom firmware which might allow for auto levelling, I'm keen to try it out in future.
Oh crap! Now I wish I hadn't spent my paycheck on crypto currency to invest... lol. Will have to save up.
It's there. Both BL touch and IR capability is available for everyone to use. :) The forum is a bit chaotic but the info and files for the mounts is available.
Thanks for sharing :-)
Where have you got this BEAUTIFUL shirt from, Angus?
Pressie :) My family know's what I'm all about! haha
Just started printing with a new A5 and they've fixed a few issues, it's working great. I have a simple technique video on my channel to stop those prints popping off the cold build plate if the power cuts out and is left for some time. Also good if you're not confident leaving a machine running unattended over night
Does it say that we need to light a candle under the bed ?
Thank you for the vid. Much appreciated.
It was recommended that I buy this printer and with all of the reviews I am very hesitant to get this one. What would you recommend? In the $250USD to $300USD range. Im new the 3d world and suspect a heated bed with a minimum build space of 200mmx200mmx200m would be ideal. The Ender 3 looks to be a nice printer? Anyway. Looking for some thoughts. Thank you.
Those advertisement videos are too much, wow... Nice work Angus as always.
The duplicate printers on gearbest don't seem exclusive to JGAurora. They post duplicate listings because the price varies depending on which plug you get (even though when you click the item you can select the plug type their as well). The JGAurora A5 with the EU plug is $355, while the US version is $365.
Their other printers vary like this as well. For example, the Anet A8 ranges wildly, jumping from $143 for the USA plug up to $203 for the UK model.
Very good review. I appears that leveling the bed might be tedious because of the small leveling knobs so close to the electronic housing? It obviously need some improvement by the manufacturer but at that price it might be a good buy. Thank you very much Angus.
Carl Beck The Carriage is also very flexible so if you touch the bed you'll see that it jiggles so when you would just be leveling knobs give the bed a couple of TAPS to your fingertip to make sure it settles where it's supposed to be mine holds its level very well I've never had to adjust it after the fact but getting it there was a little finicky
"The support just took a little of gental persuasion" continues to jam support with giant snipers
