    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

    I think fingerspelling is the hardest for me. I need ALot of practice. I hope to get better at it. It can be fast and I cant understand it until its slowed way down. I only got a few words. Most I didnt understand.

    • @dolores2716
      @dolores2716 11 місяців тому +3

      Same here. I watched it at 25% speed and in a while I'll watch again at 50%. It seems impossible to me right now.

      @@dolores2716Whenever I watch TV I try to finger spell names I see on the screen. I'm very slow but I know it's good practice since I don't have anyone to practice with

      @lazygizmo 9 місяців тому +2

      Same. It's way harder to read and mentally put the words together than to understand basic sign language conversations.

    Switch sides for fingerspelling reception, that's why I like sit on right side of circle in class, see teacher hand, good angle~

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  11 місяців тому +3

      Indeed. I did switch to that side to make my hand easier for the camera to see (which happened to make it harder for Marly to see).
      The thing to consider about choosing to sit where it is "easy" to see your instructor is that in real life you might find yourself watching a Deaf person fingerspell at an angle that is hard to see and you might miss the fingerspelling more than a classmate who sat on the other sider of the circle who had to (or got the opportunity to) learn to read spelling at an odd angle.
      I get it though sometimes it helps to start with "easy," stay motivated, and work your way up.

    • @thrivinginamber2642
      @thrivinginamber2642 11 місяців тому

      You're right, the feeling "impossible" is just the brain reconfiguring itself so it can do it~ Push through+++ I sat on the left for my first two cursory classes, when my receptive was barely started. Now, my two Deaf coworkers, they fingerspell fast and I miss a lot, Today I told my coworker in the kitchen about "Food Delicious" looking like "Feed-dog", and "Paint-Nails Easy(inflected to show paint still wet)", she appropriately facepalmed. Everything works-out~

    • @thrivinginamber2642
      @thrivinginamber2642 11 місяців тому +1

      I also talked to my Hearing coworker who says he "can't" learn languages, but, I turned it around and said "language is arbitrary" and proceeded to give examples of signs, to which he didn't simply rely "he can't", but agreed about language being arbitrary. If I do that every day, maybe he'll learn a little, ha, that would be funny, if before you know it, he start signing~

    • @thrivinginamber2642
      @thrivinginamber2642 11 місяців тому +2

      Oh, four months into learning ASL, I hit that receptive wall Hard, now, 23 months in, those examples that were indecipherable to me are now second nature, every day, tiny tiny gains. In two more years, mind-explode think future level understand~

      Plus I probably misspelled it the first time.
      On purpose of course -- you know -- to make the practice opportunity more realistic and match real life which is messy and full of misspellings.
