30:25 But that IS what Batman is like. He's not simply depressed, he is psychologiaclly damaged. Imagine seeing your parents die and then dedicate every minute of the years since to avenging them by venting your anger by beating criminals senseless and your only remaining family encourages you. What would that do to someone? He has no friends, no relationships and almost like a vampire because he is up all night prowling the streets ("a nocturla animal"). The guy is messed up. And only someone that messed up would do something like this. THAT is the real Batman and this is probably the best live action adaptation of the character in terms of authenticity
When I saw this in theatre when he beat that thug to a pulp with thudding sounds of his punches and then delivers "Im vengeance" I was so freaking happy how they made this film.
The best Batman movie. It showcases his detective skills, his deduction, his problem solving. No other Batman movie did this. It's always been him punching people or his gear
What I love about this Batman compared to all of the other ones is how he walks the crime scenes in great detail. We see him investigating. Batman is known as "the world's greatest detective" in the comics and lore and I think it actually shows the best in this film. I also love the look of the film. It does an amazing job of blending that dark Batman graphic novel look with a realistic look.
and i.e. vivaldi 4 seasons also contains the "inspiration " for other starwars tunes. williams gets all the credits, but realistically he stole it all from classical music.

You liking the colors "like its sunset" is an interesting observation. The filmmakers used that new(at the time) sound stage that is completely wrapped in gigantic video screens. They were able to use it to emulate "magic hour"(the time just after sunset and just before sunrise) and it gives that really unique lighting.
My note from the Patreon version: An opportunity to hang out with Bissy for three hours is always time well spent. Throw in a cool movie about vigilante justice, priceless.
Bruce has only been Batman for two years in this movie. He's still learning to balance his personas and he's learning what kind of hero he wants to be.

I believe this is loosely based on the Batman comics called Year One, which is when Batman first started to make a name for himself. This is why he is so emo and has a death wish when fighting criminals. That car chase scene was awesome especially when Batman's car jumped through the fire. The Riddler in this is far, far better than the 90s version. His genius intelligence insanity is on par with the Joker from The Dark Knight.
It might be an adrenaline shot he Batman takes, but it might also be an easter egg - a hint towards Bane with his usage of the green steroid called Venom.
@@Kelvin-c9h Actually it's pretty great. Finally we get a batman where he actually acts at Batman (the worlds greatest detective). And we get him young so he's still struggling with his identity Batman vs Bruce Wayne. The cinematography is epic, the score is epic - Gotham looks amazing.

The first 20 minutes of this movie, from the killing of the Mayor to Bruce riding his motorcycle through Gotham, is the best opening of a comic book movie ever. While I agree it is long, I also have trouble finding anywhere to cut. Maybe you cut out the whole Catwoman sub-plot but then you lose a great performance by Zoe Kravitz.
I’ve watched it 8 or 9 times. Overall I like it, but the long pauses in the conversations probably add 20 minutes to the overall length. The last 20-30 minutes is pretty lame…flood the city? Really that’s the best they could come up with?
@ Leave the flood out. It feels, to me, like it was tacked on to appease the ‘more explosions’ crowd. The rest of the film has a 🤔 ‘human’ scale. The assassination in the arena didn’t need the flood.

The actor who is playing the district attorney is Peter Sarsgaard. He is the husband of Maggie Gyllenhaal who played Rachel Dawes in the Dark Knight. Sarsgaard also played the villain Hector Hammond in the Green Lantern movie with Ryan Reynolds. Seems there is a lot of DC money flowing through their house. LOL.
You know how, when two people are squaring off like they're going to fight, one of them might do like a fake 'lunge' at the other person, get them to flinch? That's what I thought that was with the Batmobile (although it does also look like he stalled it LOL)
45:20 There's a deleted scene here on UA-cam where Batman visits the Joker in Arkham; it's sort of a 'Hannibal Lecter'-type scene where Batman asks for Joker's insight into who the Riddler is...

I liked Matt Reeves' vision of Gotham City in the movie, in Nolan's trilogy it looked more like Detroit! I also like Michael Giacchino's score, a bit like the Clovefield! But my favorite Gotham is still Tim Burton's 1989, dirty in every way, corrupt not only among powerful people, but anyone who 'becomes a criminal'.
