This is corset blasphemy. They are not torture devices unless you subject your self to tight lacing. But that was not the norm when they were popular
I mean if you aren’t used to them they aren’t comfortable. They are meant to make you smaller and compress your internal organs
@justjordanthings if they are not a proper fit, they are uncomfortable. But their main purpose was to create the illusion of whatever shape was popular and to hold up your breast's. Compression was never their main function. That is a myth.
Yeah uncomfortable corsetry is not historically accurate
@@justjordanthings they were worn for bust support and to help distribute the weight of the layers and layers of skirts. you don't need to lace them tight enough to squish internal organs. a corset needs to be the right shape for you though. it was common to pad out the corset to achieve the desirable sillouette instead of lacing it tighter. optical illusions like wearing bigger hips and a bigger bust would make the waist look smaller.
the one you have in the video looks pretty but yes it does seem uncomfortable because it has no room for curve. anyway i hope one day you try on a properly fitted corset 🥰 they can be very comfortable, especially for people with a large chest, shoulder pain begone 😂
@@chasingpunctuation I mean as a woman I can attest to things like bras still being around that are uncomfortable that draw the same purpose. They were originally meant to support the spine and have always been functionally to alter how the body naturally wants to go so would result in being uncomfortable even if it weren’t super tight. The way we think of them used in fashion they meant to accentuate the features of a woman.
This is my understanding of the history of them. Do you have other information that you’d like to share?
I think the dramatization when talking about corsets being a torture device is the problem
Historical clothes not having pockets, corsets being torture devices... girl, you just summoned the costuming community. You look really cute though!
... Me cosplaying an elf... Historical accuracy, ok LOL
To be fair I also call bras torture devices tho.
Corsets are not torturous and anyone that wears one should be able to put it on by themselves. Its not hard. AND pockets in dresses were the norm until recently. Pockets didn't start disappearing from womens clothing until the early 20th century.
The corset is CLEARLY too small for you. Buy a bigger one or switch the acing to a longer thread, then loosen it up before putting the corset on. Put it on first before tightening the lace. It will last you longer, now you are just torturing yourself and the thing
I love how people make assumptions from 2 seconds of a video. The corset is not too small for me its the perfect size. I did have to unlace it more to get it on, but the issue is aligning the snaps with the boning.
Does everyone just forget the common joke, "It's the latest fashion in London! Well women in London must have learned not to breathe"
@@justjordanthings that’s a quote from Pirates of the Caribbean lol. It’s not necessarily historically accurate. Tight corsets were only a thing for the aristocracy because only those ladies could do with the lack of movement.
Look, I get having a little trouble with it at first but I wore a corset every day for work for almost a year.
You loosen the laces at the back until you can comfortably slot all the latches in the front, Then you tighten everything.
Either you need longer lacing in the back, or the front is made with ill fitted parts. They should slot together and not slip out once you have them all in.
It Does take practice.
An ill fitted or ill worn corset is also more likely to cause health problems and injury. I always recommend, for comfort and safety, than you do a bend test before you buy when you can. “Can I bend forward? Can I bend back, and can I bend side to side?” If it’s No to any of them, the. The corset is too small.
You’ll look at little dorky but it saves you trouble in the long run.
Rest of the outfit is super cute.
