That moment toward the end of a Crow’s Eye production when you realize the specific historic connection. Love it!
I love it. I loved how 1665 became The Girl with the Pearl Earring too. I hope they do more of these. Portraits, famous paintings, they can even do famous photographs from more modern eras. It’s so cool to get the breakdown and then the lightning bolt realisation of how it applies to an image you’ve seen all your life.
Sometimes I narrate in my head when I get dressed. Like "tinted lip balm was a popular choice for everyday wear, and could be found in a variety of colors" or "in colder seasons, pantyhose were worn. They could be made from nylon or from thick wool, depending on the weather"
Thats remarkably sweet...
Lol I love that!!!
lol! Sounds like me.
SAME
I do that when I’m painting 😂❤
That was thrilling. So nice to have you back. I’m reminded of your dramatization of “Girl with the Pearl Earring.” Please let’s have more of these.
Agree, this was very insightful and soothing to watch 🙂
Gave me goosebumps when I started realizing that she was portraying the famous Mona Lisa! Even her smile is spot on!
I was not expecting a plot twist in this chill historic fashion video😭
SAME!! Gave me goosebumps, DAYUM!
Really enjoyed this departure from British fashion. Would really enjoy seeing other fashion from other cultures.
Some years ago they made one from Delft, Holland, which was good. The 17th century, I think.
@@monmothma3358 That was the one based on the painting The Girl with the Pearl Earring
I did comment this on a couple of posts ago. They currently don't have the budjet and means to get outside experts to help with non-european fashions. They do want to get people of different cultures to help with the videos to make sure it's correct, and right now it's not possible.
Yes please. I would love to see Chinese, Japanese and Indian dress, no matter which century!
@@elizzy8754 how about not?
As an Asian of Southeast Asia person, I enjoy very much watching a channel that caters to Western clothing culture of all periods and I take no offense if they choose not to dive into clothing cultures outside Europe.
Instead of asking Westerners to represent/showcase clothing style of non-European, how about someone from that culture itself have the decency to tell their story of their clothing culture to the world with its own UA-cam platform?
I was about to comment "she looks like mona lisa with the veil" before the painting part started :D
Monna Lisa
@@chiaraballet6221 im not italian. In english its written Mona Lisa. In italian it would be La Gioconda
@@miippi What does mona means in english?
@@chiaraballet6221 mona doesnt mean anything in english. (It's a name) I know that in italian it's a profanity of some sort, that's why it's called la Giocoda in italian (La Joconde, in french). This is what I was tought in art history.
@@miippi I think then Mona is a mispelling of the term Monna wich in florentine dialect (wich is what Da Vinci spoke) is the equivalent of Miss or Lady . The painting in italian can be called Monna Lisa (Miss Lisa) or la Gioconda, as you said, (Wich comes from her husband's name).
I'm impressed how 'modern' those white indoor shoes are. I think you could find rather similar examples in the centuries ever since, a truly timeless design!
Leonardo getting 'distracted by other commissions' is something of an understatement from what I know of him, guy was all _over_ the place.
Though since they mentioned it, what exactly do the over shoes look like since they said they exist but weren't shown.
I'm an art history professor specializing in the Italian Renaissance and I just adore this. Can't wait to show my students
When you took the name Gioconda, I took a deep breath. You guys did it again 😍 The ending had me shooketh!
Lovely video as always 🥰
What a dramatic look. I didn’t see the ending coming. (Nor was I expecting to see my cousin in it as the maid!) So glad to see Crows Eye making new getting dresses videos. 😍
I love how with every layer she puts on, she looks more and more like a renaissance painting, and then you're hit with the Mona Lisa bit 💖💖💖💖
I was lucky to have seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre while I was in Paris over 12 years ago. It's actually not a very big portrait at all and you have to get in line to see it. Even then, they won't let you get really close to it because it's been stolen from the Louvre before which is why the portrait is famous to begin with.
I would love to see a dramatization inspired by Degas's ballet dancers and maybe even feature the sculpture he made of one of them.
Yes, expect that it was not famous because it was stolen. It was famous before the theft in 1911.
Monna Lisa
@@chiaraballet6221 what does "monna" mean? And what's the difference between it and "madonna"?
@@RhapsodyOfJoy It's a diminutive, much in the way that Mrs comes from Mistress.
@@elphie93 thank you 🙏
Everything about this film is so well made, so detailed, and lifelike. The setting, the model… i really do enjoy the “getting dressed” series of earlier times, i hope we will be able to see some more ❤️
That literally gave me chills at the end. Her dress was so feminine and lovely.
Love how everytime something seems to be wrong, one of these videos pops up, which is honestly great bc of how calming they are.
A curiosity: judging from the Gioconda copy in Madrid (a painting that was discovered, it was made at the same time as the original Gioconda by one of Leonardo's disciples, perhaps as a way of improving their technique while painting at the same time as the master), the original sleeves were probably red. Now we see them as a burnt gold because of the yellowish varnish.
Gonna be honest, whole body cheer from me upon hearing the woman is Florentine
Much like the Girl With the Pearl Earring episode you did a few years ago, when you revealed it was actually how the Mona Lisa would have dressed, my jaw dropped, and had to look at an image of the painting to put my jaw back in place 😅
Woah! I love when you guys do this twist of reenacting a famous painting.
When it shows the complete portrait and she blinks I got shivers! Beautiful!
AS SOON AS THE VEIL WAS PUT ON I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNISED IT HOLY DANG WHOEVER MADE THIS DID SUCH A GOOD JOB REPLICATING THE DRESS FROM THE PORTRAIT
Omg the dress and beauty of the veil give me time travel envy.
Same here!
That twist at the end! I was completely taken by surprise. As always, attention to detail is ✨ chefs kiss ✨!
Wonderful!!! To see what Mona Lisa's clothes actually looked like and hear the story behind her portrait reconstructed according to her dress!!! Such a simple interpretation of the famous painting, and very likely a true one, that sweet smile is so much like the smile of a happy mother
I have to admit I had no idea about some of the historical information on the painting. Cant say I would have found such clothing to be comfortable or convenient. Thanks for sharing. Charles
Holy cow. My jaw dropped when I realized the woman was meant to be Mona Lisa!!
Funnily enough I always wondered what the Monq Lisa was meant to be wearing as I wasn't familiar with the fashion of thar time in Italy.
Thankyku for another awesome video!
That was an unexpected and brilliant surprise. Thank you for this video.
What an unexpected ending! I find these productions so soothing, I watch them in bed right before I go to sleep and wonder at the amazing this called civilization. Beautifully done as always…kudos
I had to clap at the end. You are just so good at what you do.
I remember the first time, I saw the video that you did with the connection to history, "The Girl with the Pearl Earring", I gasped and squealed with delight when it clicked in my brain! I love seeing these bits of history come to life!
Just love your work. ❤️
Same. It made me laugh and gave me goosebumps at the same time. And the actresses are sooooooo pretty.
Wow, now THAT was a surprise! Excellent production.
I almost always find these styles beautiful as well as comfortable, but the soft silk sleeves over billowing chemise sleeves would be quite annoying for me.
Incidentally, at least in modern Italian, Camicia is pronounced ca-mi-tchia.
Such a stylish and elegant period in fashion history! I'd love to see your reconstructions of some of the other fashion styles from renaissance Italy ❤
That was such an amazing video! I literally almost never comment on videos but I watched this with my girlfriend and my jaw dropped when I figured out what was going on. We found this video because we were actually looking for someone who had made a Mona Lisa outfit video and this far exceeded my quality expectations. Absolutely blown away! Thank you!
Cried like a baby seeing this! Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! The moment you hit us in the face with the Mona Lisa is insane. Glorious!
Top 10 greatest plot twists of 2022??? I didn't expect an emotional roller coaster but that's what I got! Wish I could give multiple likes
Very beautiful 💙 I love the quiet and informative style of your narration and the neat elegance of visuals. Thank you very much!
Love the room decoration also.
I seriously love this channel. As a history nut I adore how they actually know what they are talking about! You don’t find that very often.
Wow. The twist at the end was completely unexpected! Fabulous video. Thank you!
The reveal! I loved it!
Oh my goodness, my prayers have been answered!! This is one of my favorite eras, now covered by my favorite reenactors!! Definitely worth the wait!!!
I love all of these productions but this one brought a tear to my eye. Love how well thought out these videos are ❤
Would also love to see other art works. For example Van Gogh's, Self-portraits etc :)
OMG!! When I realized who this lady is...! I'm crying. Beautiful!!! 😭❤❤❤
Wow, I love this. I got chills at the end, I had no idea this was going to be about Mona Lisa.
So warm and beautiful, and then the thrilling revelation in the end... I literally cried. Great job everyone who made this!!
Imagine you commission a guy to make a painting of your wife, it takes him years to finish, and he never even gives it to you... only for that portrait you paid for but never got to become one of the most famous and adored paintings in the world.
Beautiful! I am grateful that we have the Mona Lisa, but it is sad he never gave it to the family that commissioned it!
Monna Lisa, monna is a florentine word equivalent to lady
Nice beautiful and great
You have given us all the information about what kind of clothes we women should wear, I am very happy to be associated with you, thank you, you have shared this video with us, thank you from the heart.♥️♥️👌👍🔔👍🙏💗💗
Beautiful! I often watch this channel before going to sleep. It’s so soothing and fascinating!
Wonderful! I loved this. And not only was the surprise ending delightful, I really appreciated seeing clothing that wasn't specific to northern or western Europe. Bravo!
How romantic! This is a video for school students. It is more interesting than many books
I love those historical connections that CrowsEye does so well. Carry on!
Interesting video as always. I love the femininity & comfort of the clothing & hairstyle during that era.
this is such a beautiful dress that truly compliments the model. thank you for the video!
This is so beautiful absolutely resplendent i wish i could dress like this everyday! I wish i could experience the no ledge needed to understand why they changed everything i'd rather wear that any day.
What a beautiful, insightful & intelligent video: Thank you! One wee point: Renaissance ladies often plucked their eyebrows, so perhaps varnish & touch-ups are not altogether to blame for La Giaconda's eyebrow-free portrait.
the way my jaw dropped at the mona lisa reveal... most shocking plot twist of all time
So lovely to watch the beautiful finished film and such a joy to work with you on it. 🙏💫❤️
That was a truly lovely experience. Six minutes well spent. Thank you!
Oh, this is just gorgeous. The clothes, the ritual, the mistress's mild expression, the music, all of it.
I love your channel! Thanks for making informational videos so fun to watch
I love this kind of video, just like the girl with the pearl earring video!! :)
"Century has thinned the silk veil over her forehead and removed her eyebrows and eyelashes, but nothing has dimmed that smile."
I knew it!!!! 😂 ❤❤❤ gosh so gorgeous!!!
This is amazing! I love these types of videos going behind the curtain of historical paintings especially when we don't see it coming!
Amazing video as always ❤ I love you guys' attention to details!
Spectacular! These are the best videos on UA-cam. You all do such an incredible job with each video! Much love ❤️
I was just thinking how she's starting to dress like Mona Lisa and I was right! I love the smooth transition from the dress style to the painting.
SCREAMING AT THE PLOT TWIST!!! So cool! 😄
When I saw the embroidery on her silk over gown I knew exactly who I was looking at! So beautiful!
That plot twist. Such a lovely video ! Always enjoying these style videos and the costume design is great ❤️👏👏
That was wonderful!!
A wonderful video! Thank you!
Fantastic work! Love your videos and narratives. Congratulations to the whole team!
ooh the ending gave me goosebumps. Always excited to see a new getting dressed video!
Beautiful and compelling! Thank you!!
absolutely brilliant, thank you for your channel it's inspiring!
That was so cool!!! Love your work. Thank you!
What a beautiful outfit, a beautiful story, and a very beautiful young lady model!! Thank you so much for the video
Incredible and beautiful! At first I had serious Franco Zeffirelli vibes especially Romeo and Juliet. Then I realized it was the Mona Lisa! So gorgeous and all the information is just a wealth of knowledge. I also loved the pronunciation of the words, I’m fluent in Spanish and I know some Italian, hearing them made my heart sing.
This is So Beautiful!!!
Thank you !
oh my godd that plot twist i was nottt expecting that wthh
YO HOLD ON
the storytelling in this is amazing and I really appreciate people who dedicate their time and their life to keeping the soul of humanity alive and accessible to everyone
Lovely video, as always. A calm, sweet meditation.
Favorite time period, favorite fashion, favorite video ! ❤️🙏🏻
So beautifully done, thank you, great to see new content. xoxo.
I like your videos. I would love to see other pieces about Renaissance's italian fashions (other cities like Venice, but also the same period for outings and other periods of Florentine Renaissance like the paintings of Bronzino and male clothing) and german fashions of the time which were pretty cool too. It's quite interesting to see your focus on shoes because, as you say, we don't often see them.
This was brilliant! Wonderful story telling.
Wow! I'm Italian and I didn't even know this story behind Mona Lisa!
I am surprised by how impractical this dressing style was as for an informal situation, and I wonder if men's fashion and lower classes fashion were less restraining and more convenient for actually going around and doing stuff.
that ending was so beautiful!!!
Absolutely gorgeous! Please recreate other paintings in the future!
Thank you for making these. I find them so relaxing
Beautiful, as always
Wonderful as always, my word I’ve missed you folks and your wonderful films!
Very informative with a nice twist at the end. Loved it! 🥰
You're videos are so good..it's like taking me back to time
Thank you, beautiful video!
So well done, thank you so much for sharing!!
so beautiful, and a wonderful background story.
This channel has provided so many answers to so many questions I had on the 16th century. Y'all are pure gold! Don't stop found what y'all are doing 💖💖💖
Your videos are amazing! So well researched and filmed. Loved it!
Wonderful! Thank you. Can't believe we didn't get a fade to the portrait at the end though!
Same thought. Oh well still good.
Everyone knows what the painting looks like, is my guess. I didn't miss it, personally.
