Hi I just watch this video and as informative as it was it was not done correctly. Flooded the sidewalk with water. He did not show I light leaf blower blowing off the dust off the top of the bricks. Therefore it’s going To leave a polymeric haze on top. Not trying to be critical but that is definitely the wrong way to add the water before blowing
Not everything is shown on video. There was a sweep and this sidewalk is as good today as on the day installed. It's are my in-laws so I see it every week. Are you a contractor?
@@peterbechtel2513 how do you compact on a job where the pavers are old and uneven. I have a job coming up and am not too familiar with polymeric sand.

Thanks for sharing BUT... (1) didn't vibrate or tap stones after applying sand to ensure gaps filled (2) it is important to blow sand dust off stones with leaf blowers before water application (3) water application should not be so heavy that water streams and pools.
Correct.... @InvestmentTheory is wrong on this one and worse will not take ownership of his mistakes. No clean/Blow off of the excess sand, (you can seen the tops of the stones are not clean before the water was applied), Puddles and He left no final picture.
Yes I read the sand often has Silica in it - the same stuff that stonemasons are getting lung cancer from after continued breathing in the dust of cutting synthetic stone kitchen bench tops/counter tops . So everyone should wear a mask when using the polymeric sand and change your clothes after you’ve finished installing the sand.
suggest u sweep the sand in the joints at a 45º angle to avoid sweeping the sand out of the joints. If you sweep parallel with the joints you sweep some of the sand out of them
Hello I put down stepping stones in the back yard and want to apply sand in between them . There is 8 stones 10 inches apart from each other . Is there a top sealer I can use after I tampered / or wet the sand for grains of sand won’t come out ?
Light spray wait 20 minutes medium spray then wait an hour or two sooner if hot sunny weather. Never French like in the video unless you are using (Easy Sand) brand which is not really a polymeric sand, it uses drenching to achieve activation. I’m a DIYer doing my own work for 20 plus years
Edwin is right, light or mid spray is fine, what i did is fine also, as long as you don't get the sand out of the joints, it will dry hard with little or lots of water, just will take longer with more water.
Wow you missed sweeping the excess and then using a Blower to remove all top level little sand particles your broom left behind, Like you said, once that sand dries its stays right on the pavers. Also you didn't hose it an an again to get off excess sand and then come back and spray mist it again removing an top sand on stones before it dries on stone. Any After Video? I would be curious to see how these came out with you missing a few steps including compounding sand into joints so they can get deep down the joints and then do another sand sweet. Im curious how long it would last with things gowning between them if joints are fully sealed.
@@InvestorTheory No way you can blow away all the excess with sweeping, you need a blower for the smaller particles that stay in the groves on the top of the stone.
I had my walkway done in June. Three months later I have ants. There are ant holes all over it. Obviously the guys who did the job did a pretty crappy job. Can I apply the sand over top of the sand that they already put in?
Not needed really in my project. You're referring to vibrating the stone so tge sand can settle in its place. I used glue under remember so i dont need to do that as vibrating wont do much
Usually you want the pavers to be 100% dry so I wouldn’t do it the same day. At least 24 hours after washing. Most sealers state this on the directions
Can we mix jointing sand with dry cement to fill the gaps then wet it after? Second question: I've seen builders mix cement and jointing sand and spread it all over the flat bed of sharp sand, put the slabs down, then wet the slabs for a few minutes. What do you reckon? Is it a good idea?
no, polymeric sand dries very hard, almost like grout or cement. unless you didn't tamp it down or you used inferior polymeric sand, it won't come out of the joints.
@@InvestorTheorythere’s literally a 1/16th or 1/8th in space inbetween the pavers in the video I think you’re blind and you don’t know how to properly apply poly sand coming from someone who has been installing pavers for 10 years
If it gets all over it when you spray water on it , it'll dry as hard as cement on it. So it may scuff it but won't ruin it. And very unlikely you'll leave tons of sand as u need to sweep it before you spray it
Great video, but mainly on what not to do. No proper grading, you can see water pooling. Poly sand was not agitated into the joints, but rather just brushed into. Poly sand dust was not blown off the surface. And finally the paver should have been misted for 30 seconds, foaming of water is a bad sign. i suspect the bond between the joints are weaker due water saturation.
Thanks but I don't need a contractor advice .. it still there years later and cost under $200...I don't understand why I should pay 10 to 20 times more to do it the contractor way

Guess they like pooling water when it rains? Probably not in a zone that freezes. We always try to grade slightly away from house but these people may not have a basement that gets wet. I would say to anyone watching this to grade the projects slightly away from the house.

About as much as nature allows to expand stone. There's 1.5 inches gap by the house and towards the stairs which is also filled with polymer if sand. But these in reality won't be expanding or contracting
Polymeric sand is one time ever. Most interlocking is done with crappy sand or regular sand with that rain and power washing will remove the sand. Polymeric dries hard like rock.
@@InvestorTheory I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone receive constructive criticism so poorly, especially considering the unanimous opinion that you did it wrong.
Please do not soak the stones like this, and do not do this on a day when it might rain, even a little bit. You'll want to take the extra step of tamping the dry sand into the joint gaps before sprinkling the water, which you should also do pretty much the opposite of the way shown here. You should have the hose spray very minimal and aimed upward, so it "rains" down vertically, and gently. As soon as you see a puddle forming, you've gone too far with the water.
Your not supposed to soak it like that, you do a light coat of water, wait , then water it again, all that polysand is washing out and now on your pavers
Caution! Caveat Emptor. This was not the correct way to apply this product. Please be more diligent and read what the engineers and chemist have instructed the applicators of this product to do. It was not tamped into the joints, it was not properly cleaned, it was also flooded and not lightly hosed.
Dear Vincent, thanks for your feedback but your are incorrect about this particular polymeric sand, you do not tamp anything in the joints, the pavers are not flat, the instructions clearly state to sweep into the joints after you get any dirt off the pavers and there was no cutting on the pavers directly. A basic garden nozzle will allow you to create a finer spray and avoid water from running off the pavers.
