This one is its own beast! I think it really stands out even though it doesn’t get a lot of attention on the socials. It’s not a digital dime a dozen plugin in a box, but a great analog synth with a lot of character and hands-on control. On the sequencer part I also like the Elektron-style P-locks including trigger-less steps, in contrast to the implementation on for instance the TR-8s. And yes, it’s relatively pricey… but then again it has a lot to offer and brings a lot of fun, too. It’s creative, fast and also great for those Saturday-night drone sessions 😉 Thanks for another great review with also some need tips 👍🏻 I was a bit surprised by the cons upfront, but it did leave a lot of room for the cool stuff 😎
A Ricky T video on a Thursday? Alrighty lets go! I love the source/destination assignment workflow! It's like the Pro-3. I really wish Novation added this method to Peak! If they had multi colour LEDs under those pads they could have taken a page from the Elektron notebook and used a different colour for note-less "parameter locks". Maybe a flashing button would work? (Err I see it's White and Red now... wonder if there are more?) I'm impressed with this one. The OG UNO synth was.... very meh... they really stepped it up on this one. I agree the interface is cramped and if they had knobs per parameter that would really increase the usability. UNO Synth Pro X MAX? 😀 Still a bit of a shame it's mono (para)... if this was a 4 or 6 voice poly that would have been awesome.
Top quality demo, thanks Love the new form factor and workflow enhancements, - still not sold on the overall sound yet, but if I didn't already have way too many synths, I'd probably buy it. - love to ALL, feel no hate
12:04 "My music is too easy to make!" Hahahaha ... had to stop the video so I could finish laughing without missing some information. Very good ... love you Ricky! 😆
Do the envelope knobs at least "pick up" the previous value once you turn to it with the knob? Or do they bump the value to the current knob position once you start turning the knob? The former would be understandable. The latter would be terrible design.
I feel like there's a whole lot of other synths and whatnot with much longer names and popular ones too but i'll let that one slide Ricky cuz I love ya haha❤
Hi Ricky loved you detailed review- calling from overseas Portugal (yes closer to Italy lol). I Have one on order, intend to connect to a NI keyboard but I also have a spare novation launch control xl. It having 3 knob rows plus the uno midi chart showing separate commands for envelopes filter, amp and 3 I wonder if maybe I could assign them allowing all simultaneous in a set config? Thks, Nuno
Thanks bro, after an avalanche of brown nose reviews on UA-cam at least someone made objective review AND played some nice music. Still not sold on this device (6 hundreds for a mono-something module in 2023 is only cool when Roland does it), but thanks anyway!
bro what a sick track! I would love to go to a show like this im in.... manhattan ks.... haha the venue i used to book for closed down for the moment, but is trying to come back (its an arcade bar thats all about live music after 9pm)
This thing is sick just got mine delivered. I wanted an Avalon so bad but too hard to get and expensive now. Do you have a Norand Mono MK2 yet? Thats the other synth I want - saving for that now.
The price for what you get and some of the company policies and reputation as regards support make this a tough sell IMHO. IF you can find an EXT Box SE-02 would be my personal choice instead. Also, $100 more gets you a new Hydrasynth Explorer, MiniFreak, or Deepmind 6 - same price or less if willing to shop used. None of that changes how nice the size might be for someone and it clearly can make some nice sounds. I just do not see how very many would chose it over a number of other synths at this price.
Maybe you are right, It seems people overlocked many aspects of synths these days, at best counting the number of osc, filter and knobs but comparing digital synths to analog, mono to poly, synth with no digital control to ones with presets... Almost nobody invests time to understand the unique features and quirks, no matter how much they are diffrent under the hood. But still, many will just try it and if they like it buy it and never talk about this in comment sections :)
Dude I have an uno synth pro (desktop version, and I liked working on synth sounds on it) but now whenever I try plugging it in to turn it on it just makes this clicking sound as if it was booting up and guess what? IT NEVER DOES!!!! It’s just makes that clicking sound. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the micro usb port for the aux power fucking sucks at keeping a stable connection bc every cable (even the one that the synth comes with) is just wobbly. Like I can physically wriggle the connector back and forth when it’s connected to the synth. Is there any way I can it to actually work if anyone knows how? Sorry for this massive tirade
Mine stopped working right after a month. The square/pulse waves no longer worked on all three oscillators and the filters sound horrible. I got it as a b-stock off reverb. Never opened or registered, but IK refused to fix or replace it. I’m convinced something happened with the usb port and now the synth is useless. Terrible customer service.
Even more of a bummer is that you can't modulate other modulation slots with the envelopes or the LFOs. E.g. no bringing in/out LFO modulation of the filter or whatever via an envelope or the second LFO. MOD X amount destinations are only available for velocity, modwheel, aftertouch and key pitch. Makes no sense to me.
IKM Gripe: I bought a used Unosynth Pro desktop and the seller info did not allow me to download the editor librarian. Pretty lame of IKM to turn their synths into glorified dongles.
I'll never buy another product from IK. I bought the uno used and since the last owner didn't transfer the registration to me I can not update it let alone use their presets. What kind if a company is that. Never had that problem with akai, Roland, Arturia or Behringer...Lame AF
To me Midi controllers still never feel like actual controllers on the synth, pick up mode, preset change... some maybe can, like the "electra one" but it costs twice as much as this synth :) also, there is some uniqueness to this version
As composers we want to be inspired, if we are lucky it is something new that motivates us into new territory. This synth has NO new territory. I am not sure about the experience of these reviewers but this synth and it's features are exactly the same as over 50 other synths in the last 40 years. Nothing new. I'm not saying you cannot get creative with it but you are not going to break any ground with it either. Now, Reveal Spire or Diva? There you go. $300 and you have enough to inspire you for many years.
I disagree, there are many differences and unique features only this one has, or others that cost twice or more, but they are not easy to notice for some, yes, you will actually need to read the manual, but if others don't maybe this can be your way to get inspired. Also, there is the factor of sound, without investing time to explore an instrument you can't really understand its uniqueness regarding its sound abilities. It's all boiled down to the lack of ability to invest time and some brain muscles to deeply understand something. People rush to have an opinion before they truly learn an instrument, but if most does that, whoever doesn't will find inspiration and even meaning in the "small details"
303’s are $300 and an S1 is $200… I don’t have a 303 AND I don’t have a lead synth… Takes up less space than a 303 and S1 together, is powered by USB-C, and can drone. Take my money please.
@@EverettVinzant Whats the reason you need something to be USB C powered over an external power supply to h make a decision of that? If you think about a powerbank there are cheap adapters for different sockets I mean there are lot of differences between those synths they almost only compare by size Nevertheless I´m glad they did a mk2 and continue making synths
@@novalogue It can be powered by my iPad/Laptop (and exchange data with one less cable) or portable power supply that multiple devices can use simultaneously which gives me less dependence on looking for wall plugs… Just off the top of my head.
well, then there is Roland S1. this TB style bass has been around in so many machines already. not impressed. uff 500Eur is just insane asking price. easy pass. great demo either way
After the S1 came out I find myself comparing everything to it. Its got so much going on for not a lot of money. Kind of hard to beat at its price point and even a good deal above.
Damn those synths! The company never learned how to make quality devices. My UnoSyntPro burned out from a short circuit inside the bottom board and cannot be restored, but IK Multimedia says that they cannot sell the board, they do not sell it separately. I advise you to invest in a soft synth and controller, or start building a modular synth. Don't buy this crap!
Why would they sell you just the board? This is not reasonable to expect. Maybe you tried to save money by doing it yourself? just get it fixed with your local distributor or other technician.
Just so you know; even though you're posting on a Thursday, we still expect to see you on Saturday. No pressure though.
I second that.

Really like the sound of this synth. Cool filters.
One minute in and we have the most honest review I’ve seen. Thank you Ricky.
Ricky: you do an excellent job a I really appreciate it!
Idk if you've shown your hair before but now I'm seeing it for the first time and all I think about is how nice it is
great groove you have there. i hope to see you at knobcon!

It looks fun to program kind of like the Roland TB-3. $500 is too much for me. ✌

This one actually looks like a synth unlike the original
Word, the original looked like a team of car designers had a go at a synth layout
Screwed me up i was like "is it Saturday today?"

If they just added the filter ADSR knobs, this would be perfect. Also no undo if hitting bassline button? So close as it has a great sound.
