Q | Why the transformer core is made as thin laminated? Share your answer🤔🤔🤔🤔
Transformer core is laminated because to reduce Eddy current loss.
Eddy current loss(Pe)=kB²m.f²t²V
Where, Bm- maximum flux density
f- frequency
t- thickness of the core
V- volume of core.
Now we can says that, Eddy current loss directly proportional to square of thickness of the core (t²).
If we can reduce the thickness,then Eddy current loss also reduce.

To Reduce Eddy current loss
Lamination of core is done to reduce the loss due to eddy current which opposes main current.We know eddy current flows due to the unwanted induced emf in the core(unwanted induced emf in the core arises due to the varying main flux cutting the core).This unwanted induced emf can be reduced by channelling the current paths of the core (making the core laminations as thin as possible).This thin laminations ensure reduced Cross-sectional area of each current path and hence reduces unwanted induced emf. Finally eddy current is reduced!
