Oh, man, the reference to "Pancakes" is a super-deep cut! "Pancakes" was a single-page story in Dark Horse Presents Annual 1998. Hellboy is a little tyke on a military base in 1947 and, like many kids do, he only wants to eat the one food, which happens to be noodles. He is given a plate of pancakes for the first time, which he refuses, "I don't like pamcakes!" Hellboy soon discovers he loves pancakes, and it's all very cute. In the movie one of Hellboy's meals, brought to him by John, is a huge feast of pancakes. If you listen closely you'll hear Ron Pearlman say "pamcakes" just as his younger self does in the comic.
The stone guy in the background of BPRD headquarters is actually named Roger the homunculus. He's an agent in the comics and he was brought to life by accident by Liz.
Saw this movie in theaters with no prior knowledge of Hellboy, and after watching it I've been a fan since. Loved everything about the world and the characters. Like a week later I started trying to get the comics and still buy them whenever I can.
I first heard about the Hellboy movie during a mockumentary Mark directed and starred called COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE. Ron Perlman was fantastic as the title character.
This is one of the few movies my dad and I always used to watch together. We love it. He is still alive, but our relationship is not what it used to be unfortunately, we are not very close now. But every time i watch this i still think of our bonding over it. Watched it again this morning on blu ray. It was my first time seeing it in this fornat and I've got to say, a lot of it looks great. The practical effects and make up are phenomenal, love the movie just as much as ever!
I always thought it was cool that Brume mentions Hitler dying in 50 something but Meyer says "44, Hitler died in 44" and Brume says "Did IT now." Not, did HE now. Nice touch
Nothing amazing, but a good little comic book adaptation movie. Ron Perlman was perfectly cast and the makeup effects are awesome. It is worth nothing that H.P. Lovecraft likely did not name the cat himself. He was given the cat at the age of 9 and the cat died 5 years later.
I think the reason Abe didn't pick up the cancer before is that, now it's at the front of Broom's mind, I think it's more that he picked up worries about it vs detecting the actual cancer.
Mignola also did production art and character design for the Disney Atlantis movie. His comic adaptation of the Fahfrd and Grey Mouser novels is cool stuff too.
Just starting up the video, and I hope you talk about how this gave National treasure Doug Jones a second career and the greatest success of his life afterwards
I love the hellboy del toro movies they’re awesome for a comic book movie and stands out from the rest of comic movies at the time. Btw love the roof top rock throw at dudes head scene 🤣 gets me everytime haha oh ya how fitting of the Red right hand song but just reminds me of scream 😱 👏
I love this movie. The 2 animated Hellboy movies are pretty good. It's great to hear discussions about Rasputin. I have a few Rasputin movies, but I love watching Hammers Rasputin: The Mad Monk (1966) with Christopher Lee and then watch the Hellboy movies. Great episode Tony🤘
I wont argue if someone didnt like the reboot for the flaws it has cuz it does, but i loved it and think most of the hate is undeserved. Ive seen a lot of hate from people who admit they never even watched it. Give it a chance, its fine and fun
I love Hellboy, and Hellboy 2 so much!! Also, I cant believe they are making ANOTHER reboot instead of the third film with Guillermo Del Toro, and Ron Perlman. Hollywood is so tonedeaf.
still remember going to see this in 2004 with my father and his friend cliff, cliff fell asleep lol, they had a hellboy stuffy I wanted from the premier
29:45 in the part when Ilsa is talking to Rasputin he blesses her with eternal youth then he gives her that magic book. 33:17 there’s a throw away line where Hellboy says that Myers complained how hot it was so HB sent him to the coldest part of Antarctica or something like that. 52:38 they say in the movie that the salt was from the tears of 1,000 angels, which just raises even further questions, like did god just stream the opening from Up in heaven?🤷
I remember watching Hellboy in theaters and I thought that is was nice take on a different hero character that isn’t apart of the DC or Marvel. I also like Ron pearlman’s portal of the title character which he brought a lot of energy to Hellboy.
As I recall, one of the main reasons Hellboy filed down his horns was because an enemy of his (I forget who), caressed them once and it made him feel very uncomfortable.
If you didn't give the explanation about the Talking About Tapes/Hack The Movies title I would have just continued assuming I was having constant Mandela Effect with this channel. Jeez Tony!
I love the first, it was close to perfect. Just needed more of the blades guy. 2nd was good but a pure waste of bad guy as he was so under used. Love the remake, it was messy for sure and 2 many story lines but David harbour was great and had the perfect look.
I know this is a spinoff of cinemassacre and suppose to be a lil sillier but they could do a bit more of research on the actual hellboy book or mike mignola.
The animated movies are actually pretty well done. And pretty dark/adult. Specially for the time. I do want a proper Hellboy/BPRD movie/project. With a spookier tone. The books always seemed to bounce between fun and well crafted atmosphere.
Hey Tony and Hack the Movies Team! How are u guys? Doing great I hope! . Could u guys cover the Descent movies? Actually u can pretend the second doesn't exist so anyways, . have a great week ya'll!
I've never seen the Dylan Dog movie, but the character's likeness was based off of Rupert Everett, so just watch Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore) instead.
Ed Piskor took his own life April Fool’s Day 2024, he was a scrappy cartoonist, his work was like schoolhouse rock. He and Jim Rugg used to talk about comics on Cartoonist Kayfabe, their days at Marvel, interviews with Steve Bisette Jaime Hernandez and Anne Nocenti etc. His X-men Grand design was a perfect distillation of 60s-90s X-men. He was 41 years old. He was like super lanky, but one of those short white dudes that gets liver spots not freckles on his hands early because he’s only six years older than me, 41 years old. Ed Piskor got himself an apprentice that’s 17. Other artists in the industry, Gen X his age kept saying he was trying to have sex with his student over the last couple weeks and with no one he thought would believe him or look at the forensic evidence now in police custody in the related statutory nonconsent investigation so he was goaded into self unaliving.
Dude was grooming 17 year olds with multiple dms as proof. Tried to solicit oral sex for his agents contacts with written proof. Killed himself instead of facing the music. Not a victim

I was on the street team for this one, gave a way a ton of BPRD stickers for it.
I like that you literally released this on the actual 20th anniversary. Crazy timing.
It was supposed to be yesterday but it got delayed
@@HackTheMovies Either way nice coincidence.

And it cuts to a bunch of demons in hell, that scream he’s had pancakes he’ll never come back now
Now I'm looking forward to the review for Hellboy 2. That's one of my favorite comic book movies.
Hellboy 2 is actually a pretty good sequel
Literally one of my favorite movie and endlessly rewatchable, I love the… Hell, out of this movie lol
The stone guy in the background of BPRD headquarters is actually named Roger the homunculus. He's an agent in the comics and he was brought to life by accident by Liz.
There are a couple of Hellboy Animated TV Movies with the original cast (and Del Toro) that are worth watching.
Saw this movie in theaters with no prior knowledge of Hellboy, and after watching it I've been a fan since. Loved everything about the world and the characters. Like a week later I started trying to get the comics and still buy them whenever I can.
Well before Rasputin opens the portal he grants Elsa eternal youth then he tells her the book will lead her to him
Eternal youth and the power the serve him
Tony should do the other Hellboy movies including the animated ones
Oooh those are good too! So much better than that awful remake
Hellboy is one of my favorite snarky comic book characters.
Deadpool and Booster Gold, too.
I first heard about the Hellboy movie during a mockumentary Mark directed and starred called COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE. Ron Perlman was fantastic as the title character.

31:17 I'm pretty sure that when they say "Have you told him yet?" They're talking about Hellboy, not Professor Broom... 😆
I really appreciate when Monica is on, I enjoy her insight on things and she’s very knowledgable. She’s funny and charismatic. More Monica please!
She’s hands down the best guest. Good family right there!
I always thought it was cool that Brume mentions Hitler dying in 50 something but Meyer says "44, Hitler died in 44" and Brume says "Did IT now." Not, did HE now. Nice touch
Hell yeah! Love this movie!

@theflail nice damn job on all your plushies man!! Just saw the mailbag EP, Holy cow you are incredible talented!

I always thought Hack The Movies was the channel name and Talking About Tapes was the name of this show.
I love this movie. I watched it a couple months ago actually. It might be my favorite comic book movie of all time.
I thought Johanna would be on this review, you know another awakening for her😂
Hellboy is great!! I really like the sequel too! The david harbour remake is awful. But yes please review them both!!

52:30 It's salt from the tears 😢 of a thousand angels, that's how it was excreted.
i had to figure out HTM vs TAT by myself. Kinda proud actually. My parents divorced when I was little so...
Mignola also did production art and character design for the Disney Atlantis movie. His comic adaptation of the Fahfrd and Grey Mouser novels is cool stuff too.
I'm getting a new phone tomorrow, as the audio on my phone stopped working yesterday.

Mama Termite: "Gud fuh you!"" as my friend Rocky Laporte would say "Gud fuh you!".
Just starting up the video, and I hope you talk about how this gave National treasure Doug Jones a second career and the greatest success of his life afterwards
Sky beams/portals were a thing before this movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark is likely the first. The original Ghostbusters also had one.
29:41 Rasputin gave ilsa everlasting life before opening the portal.
Saw this around release as a double feature with the dawn of the dead remake at a drive in theater in lake Worth, FL good times

I hope you guys do a video on Hellboy 2 The Golden Army! Or a video titled What is The Worst Hellboy Movie or Sequel?
Met Doug Jones back at comic-con in 2011.

Has anyone seen the Director's Cut on Hellboy?
There's a directors cut?
No Tony, you mean John Hurt from Frankenstein Unbound.
Wishful thinking at the time for a Constantine and hellboy live action crossover film 😏
The last VHS release in North America was A History Of Violence.
John Hurt narrates in the introduction before we see the young professor.
Oh and I wanna say that Monica is one of my favorite guests. Top 5, easy, if not #1.
"bring that cat to the vet" had me doing a spit take.
Mimic not only rules but it’s also getting a 4K release sometime this year. Fingers crossed it’s the director cut. 🤞
YES PLEASE REVIEW MIMIC!!! i love learning more about it.
I still enjoy the Talking about tapes and regular Hack the Movies episode distinction.
Always great to have Monica on, you two work of each other well.
52:00 the quote Rasputin says is “salt from the tear’s of a thousand angle’s”
The salt from the tears of a thousand angels. That's where the salt comes from. All you have to do is make a legion of angels cry. Simple!
Red Right Hand is featured in Dumb and Dumber also when Lloyd buys all the crap and wearing the big cowboy hat

HP gave his cat a great name. I approve.

Salt from the TEARS of a thousand angels. Feel like yall didn't watch the movie before this episode
I believe Howard the duck is the first superhero movie to use giant sky beams in the third act
the hellboy 2 the more you know commercials are so great.
The salt is from the tears of a 1000 angels
I love the first, it was close to perfect. Just needed more of the blades guy. 2nd was good but a pure waste of bad guy as he was so under used. Love the remake, it was messy for sure and 2 many story lines but David harbour was great and had the perfect look.
Hellboy is well known in the world of the comic, no need to hide him.
I know this is a spinoff of cinemassacre and suppose to be a lil sillier but they could do a bit more of research on the actual hellboy book or mike mignola.
Mimic is awesome
And I loved once the Hellboy says I will be sore in the morning
I like Monica as a guest, shes funny. Top 10 for sure
One of my favorites
"that poor cat".....is like wow smmfh
Meyer might be a reference to the Meyer hardness scale that measures the relative hardness of materials including minerals.
I love all the Hellboy movies. The remake is pretty good but Ron Pearlman is best
Sucks we never got a part 3 😢
1:30:00 Everyone look up how Captain Falcon got his powers
Rasputin tells Elsa she won't age in the beginning of the film.
Ok…. Who else had to stop and look up Lovecrafts cats name? 17:04
I'd watch literally anything by Del Torro. Strawberry Shortcake the romcom? Yep.
The salt is from the tears of the angels
Hellboy 2 and 3 are really Good and my favorites. the new Hellboy should have been the 3ed.
