Buddy, I’ve watched videos for my Ford Escape for many many years, and must say, your detail and video ways are done very well! I’m doing this seal replacement this week, and you’ve made it real clear how to do it. Thank you! Any escape work I appreciate...2009 and 2012 limited for me.
Been working for two days trying to get CV axle off, finally today I just rented a slide hammer from O'Reilly's, got it off within two pulls with ease.. now time to try and get this seal off.
Just watching this...great job....one question...I see other vids where they remove the ball joint, calipers etc to chance the axle shaft. You just take that one bolt out and pullt entire unit to side and are able to remove and replace the axle shaft? Is that really all there is to it? your way 1 bolt?
06 mercury mariner same problem passenger side ... Leaking transmission fluid between ptu and intermidiate shaft... Ive hit a dead end! Can't find a video on my issue anywhere!...HELLP!
You will have to pull the power transfer unit. I have a video doing ptu on a Ford Taurus show. It should be somewhat similar but a bit easier on the Mariner.
What I have found so far is very expensive: $225 for the Ford tool, $140 delivered for this aftermarket one: 308-070 T77L-7697-E Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Remover Alt: www.freedomracing.com/308-070-t77l-7697-e-transmission-extension-housing-bushing-remover-alt.html?___store=default I will attempt with cheaper alternatives, but I might have to get that tool. You need a compatible slide hammer to use the tool as well. There is also the bushing installer tool that goes for $70+tax+shipping ... Alternatives (with the risk of damaging the transmission case): smile.amazon.com/ABN-Blind-Bearing-Puller-5-Piece/dp/B072MPH6YC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 www.harborfreight.com/slide-hammer-and-bearing-puller-set-5-pc-62601.html All of this to remove and install a $5 bushing !!!
vlasfarg thanks. I sold the vehicle. Wanted to keep it, but couldn’t refuse the deal. Mechanic replaced that bushing for me and did the whole axle to get it right to sell. I didn’t have the time to deal with it. Moved on to a 2016 Mazda CX-5 GT.
Was it all-wheel drive or front wheel drive? Was it the passenger or driver side? If it is only a front wheel drive that was probably transmission fluid. If it is all-wheel drive you might have the transmission seal leaking into the transfer case thus overfilling it. Check your fluid levels and go from there.
It was a V6 driver side ,it was seized on, so had to use torch and lightly heat for 2 or 3secs an rotate evenly but got it out a d drained 2ft by 2ftpuddle of fluid. Passenger side did the same came of clean but I bought rubber seal
In my 2009 Ford escape hybrid this axle plays up an down and seal is leaking, should I change only seal or bushing as well? is it normal when axle is moving up and down when I shake it?
If the other side is not leaking compare it to that because they usually do have some movement. The seal makes up for quite a bit, it kinda of a use your best judgment thing.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair other side does not move, movement is quite large. Hybrid models have this bushing? or only 6 speed automatic transmission? where can I find this bushing for hybrid?
The bushing design is the same, for it works the same way. I would have to look it up, but if it has a different transmission for the hybrid it is likely a different bushing. Also note replacing a bushing should be left to someone who has done it before because it can be easy to cause damage to the transmission.
@@CrazedPerformanceRepair I've changed axle and seal, the old axle surface was damaged, it seems that it has not bushing or it's inside of bearing and I think whole bearing needs to be replaced. cos removing bushing from bearing and pressing another will damage bearing itself. I can show pictures
David Sharabidze did you ever figure this out? Is there a bushing/bearing that can be replaced? My hybrid escape is still leaking after I’ve replaced the seal and axle.

Check for damage from the locking ring
Thorough and clear - Thanks.

great video ! can you make one video for the rear axle seal on rear diff? thanks
If you replace your cv axles is it a good idea to replace the seal? Even if it isn’t leaking? Thanks
and which one is for the ford escape xlt 02 3.0 the same side seal

Disregard my previous post I just had to call my inner hulk to tighten down to 221 ft lb 😅
One more thing, is there a tool to get that bushing out from inside the case?
I am sure there is but you will have to do some research.

Where did you purchase the axle seal? Trying to find one like the one you used is difficult to find.
