    Reaper is slowly starting to become a go to. I've owned it for a little while but never really utilized all that much mainly because for school, we're required to work in Pro Tools. But on my own time and personal projects, I'm really starting to love Reaper a lot especially for sound design purposes. The customization of it is fantastic. Have nothing but good things to say about it.

      Super rock-solid. I've used it on some of the cheapest laptops recording 16 tracks simultaneously and have NEVER had it crash once.

      @@FrightboxRecording Yup! I have an old dell laptop from like 2012 (not my main computer), and I pulled Reaper up on that and did some work on there with zero issues which surprised the holy hell out of me.

    I love Reaper. It's seriously the most versatile and feature packed DAW out there, from what I've seen at least. I've tried using other DAWs but always end up going back to Reaper. You can completely customize everything and design your version to fit your needs. Rather than adapting to the work flow of the DAW, Reaper adapts to your work flow. The only downside I have found is that its not very intuitive compared to other DAWs for beginners but there's tons of free videos online to teach you how to do pretty much anything inside of Reaper. You can even edit video O.o lol

    @mattcarey861 3 роки тому

    Wow! Those are some pretty large cuts, especially on the kick. Is that pretty typical or did this recording just call for it because the drum didn't sound that great or something? Also, just curious. I know you use the "behind the bookshelf technique" for your room mic. Do you typically only do mono room mic or do you go stereo? Thanks! Great video. I was a long time PT user and now use Reaper exclusively. Excellent program and can't beat the price.

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  3 роки тому

      Hello Matt! For some reason (maybe there's a way to adjust this) the graphic in the Rea EQ is shallow and makes the cuts look bigger than they actually are. I was only reducing those ranges by 6-8 dB which is relatively modest. I recorded this way back in 2011, so I was using 57's as room mics and placed them as far back in the room as possible. This was way before I came up with the "shelf" technique. Sometimes I use a mono room, sometimes I use a stereo pair...and other times I'll use all three. It depends on what mood I'm in. You can achieve a great room sound with a single mic.

      Pretty condescending comment there. Reaper is made by the guys that made win amp, don't need the money cause they sold win amp to AOL for a fortune. They wanted people to have an awesome daw that wasn't expensive so they made the reaper. It's 13mb to download and install. Just because it's cheap doesn't make a poor man's choice. Yes i use it and love it as a one man hobby mixer. Because for me it gives me the tools to do things i couldn't afford In 2007 when i first got a licence and anything else was just crazy money. Sorry to rant but hearing it labeled that way does it a disservice.

So my comment was flawed in that and yours not at all condescending. My apologies. Reaper is an awesome tool that is in the grasp of many and and any who choose to use it, so i still don't think it's a poor man's choice though. They are giving us premium quality stuff at a really excellent price and could charge a fair bit more of they wished in my opinion. We just get to decide what vsti and libraries we want and aren't stuck with gbs of stuff we don't use/want, what's funny about this to me is that i actually bought an air music bundle cheap, which has a lot of the protools vstis and plugins 😄 60gbs worth of libraries! which i only now have vaccumm pro synth installed from that right now! Cause i don't use the rest at then moment and i recently changed computer and saw no need to reinstall them as i wanted to keep the plugins i use to a bare minimum of what i actually use to get the results i want and an forced to use a more limited number. You maybe didn't need to hear all of that. But thanks for taking the time of you made it this far.
