Vanguard Bandits, Final Fantasy, Azure Dreams, Crash, Spyro, MGS, Silent Hill, Chrono Cross, Twisted Metal, Hydro Thunder, even the demo discs were fun. The 90s and early 2000s was the best era in gaming. Fun times while they lasted.
I still think the ps1 is the best console ever., my number 1 from playstation for sure., ps1, ps2 and psp are the golden age from Playstation.,
I do love the vita as well, it's just ashame it does not run ps2 games.

After awhile a retro game should be free to play or atleast available. If they want money for their game then come out with a remaster to get new fans playing. Other than that they should show love to the real fans who just want to enjoy the games they used to have or wanted to have

this is why i said ps1 is teh goat of all video game consoles. 1995 to 2003. you got the best of the 16 bit era. 32 bit era. 64 bit era. and best of the 3D era. 2d era and 2.5d era. best anime games,best 2d graphics. best digitzed graphics game. best 3d graphics. last stages of the sega g and snes era. n64 and sega saturn era. and beginning of the sega dreamcast and ps2 era.

Just seeing the thumbnail makes me feel a certain type of way. I can never get enough of the jrpg's at this time. The amount of different styles of the genre was insane. PS1 properly introduced the cd era far as consoles, it was like opening this crazy box of different capabilities

That’s great I’m regretting selling any of my PS1 games and now I’m on lookout for any but I’m the area where I’m now there’s none retro shops or any good pawnbrokers I may have to buy from eBay and pay more 🙁

I always catalog and think of game libraries in "release date order" so really enjoy watching in this format. I deeply researched out my own "best PS1 games" lists a couple of years ago, trying to limit myself to 20 games per year with honorable mentions (except 10 games for 1995, and fewer for 2001-2-3). I took some notes while watching this video to compare our lists.
Overall a lot of similarities! I'm not into the destruction-style driving games, or wrestling/boxing games, but otherwise we have tons of overlap. Here are some games missing from your video that I would include in my own Top 300:

I only *very* slightly prefer Saturn and Dreamcast (1995-2001) to PS1 and early PS2 (1995-2001), but that's because I love shmups, fighters, arcade-style games -- and imported a ton of that stuff for Saturn back in the day, ... and also I still love that unique "Dreamcast aesthetic" LOL. It's so "future 1999"...
But as far as one console with the best, most varied library of games I come back to again and again, PS1 wins by a mile. I always have PS1 or PS2 hooked up to the TV, while other old/retro consoles cycle in and out...

But you forgot that there are some decent PS1 2004 releases as well. 2004 good PS1 games as Geekioh Shooting King, FIFA 2005, Dynamite Soccer 2004, Black Matrix 00, Dance UK Extra Trax, Madden NFL 2005, XS Junior League Soccer, Sonic Special Wings, Dancing Stage Fusion, Block kids, MLB 2005, CT Special Forces 3 Bioterror and Rascal Racers! 2004 was the last decent year of life for PSX, while 2005 only received some crappy low budget productions, while 2006 had Strider Hiryu only in Japan as the final PS1 release ever
@@MsSirAndy Thanks for your list! Some of those games are interesting -- but looking through your list there are some reasons why they're not in this video (or in my additional list). Top 300 is very high level for PS1 ... a game basically has to be a solid 7.5/10 or higher to even be considered.
- Gekioh Shooting King is a decent game and flirts with the Top 300 ... (it is a solid 7.5 and I actuallly considered listing it) ... but I'm not sure why you have it as 2004. afaik it was a 2002 North American localization of a 1999 JP release.
- Black/Matrix 00 is indeed interesting, but Japanese release only. So CheesestringXX wouldn't include it on his video (he specifically says "US releases only" in the video description), and I'm following his lead there. There are a few dozen JP-exclusive PS1 games that would displace a bunch of these games out of the Top 300 ... but that would be a very different list.
- Likewise, CT Special Forces 3 Bioterror was exclusive to EU, therefore not fair game for this list. Again, there are a dozen or so EU-exclusive games that I'd put on a different Top 300 list that includes those games. That being said ... CT Special Forces 3 Bioterror doesn't feel like a Top 300 game at all. It's an OK 2D run-and-gunner, really just a straight port of the GBA game. 6/10 game. Sonic Wings Special was JP-only, then had a late release in EU by Phoenix Games. But no US release, so not on this list. Probably a Top 300 game, if we include JP/EU games -- I play & enjoy the PS3 port a couple of times every year.
- Rascal Racers is not good. Block Kids is fine, but not Top 300 level... 6.5/10, maybe 7/10 for some people.
- The rest of the games you list are sports and dance iterations, which most of us who compile/curate historical "best" lists find it hard to include. And with a game like FIFA 2005, it's hard to put that on here when the late PS1 FIFA games (2003-4-5) were both derivative of earlier games and less fun than let's say FIFA 99-2000-2001. There's no way I'd list every FIFA game in a Best 300 PS1 list. Plus there was a FIFA 2005 on PS2 that was far better. The PS1 games were a bit of an afterthought for EA after 2003.

G-Police and OddWorld were 2 very underrated games, they were awesome.
fully agree, and one of the best game on childhood was auto destruct, so much hours were spent, happy memories.
PS2, SNES, PS4, PS1 for me in that order but my childhood nostalgia is all linked to ps1/ master system/mega drive

PS2 with a hard drive or a USB drive with POPS my friend :) PS1 games are actually easier to get to work than ps2 games on a ps2 with freemcboot
This is one of the best videos I've seen about PS1 games, but you do miss some all-time classic on the console: Tarzan, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Hercules, 007: Tomorrow Never Dies, Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, Digimon World, Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories.
But you're really caught me off guard with some titles, like Ready 2 Rumble, keep up the good work.

I love it how games released in 2001 (Strikers 1945), 2002 (Gekioh) and 2003 (Mobile Light Force) were also released for the Sega Saturn in Japan (as Strikers 1945-II, Shienryu and Gunbird, respectively). The Sega Saturn deserved a lot better in North America, but at least it was very successful in Japan.

We truly had the golden age of the ps1 and ps2. I was born in 1992 so I had the privilege of this. Kids born after 2005 are now happy with FIFA and micro transactions etc which is such a shame.
Almost 30 years after my dad got me a playstation. It now sits in my office and my ps1 games still far exceed the amount of all my other consoles games.
The ps1 was amazing because all of these were new. Now in 2023 we're getting these games remastered or on their 15 game in the franchise

I remember EB Games had a trade in deal where you trade in 10 or 15 genesis games and you got $100 off the ps1 console. That’s how I got my ps1. This was the greatest era of gaming. I had a lot of these games and traded all of them in. Would be nice to have a digital collection of all of them.
1st game - Rayman, I had it as a kid, looks can sure be deceiving! it's absolutely gorgeous to look at but brutally difficult once you get past the first few levels!
This and Jurassic Park the lost world make me mad as a kid and surely would today too 😅

A lot of classics here and a lot of nostalgia, but man there was a lot of terrible games in this list of "best" games. So many game I recognise as the games that game shops would have at discounted price and just couldn't shift. I do miss going to a game store with my saved up pocket money/paper round cash and finding cheap 2nd hand gems to buy.
How well a game sold is honestly not an indicator of its quality, since mainstream taste is not necessarily the best.

Twisted Metal has to be one of the standout memories for me, I was only a kid and that game was so edgy around my neighborhood back in the day. When I played it I definitely felt like I was doing something taboo

launched late 95 for $299. march 97 it was HALF that price. at the very end the psone (slim) was $49. was the same for nes, snes, gen/md, n64, saturn, ps2, ngc, xbox.
consoles are supposed to be half launch price (or better) by the end of their life.
now pay for multiplayer, extra controller is $70, and digital games you don't actually own. who knew the future was gonna suck so hard?
