I was one of the 29 people at this gig (most of my mates went to see The Police elsewhere in town) ... afterwards I went backstage and was talking with the band. I asked how synthesisers worked, and Ian & Martyn took me back on the stage and showed me ... next day I was on a train to London with all my savings to buy my first synth ... then followed 35 years and counting of making strange and wonderful music. Sorry about the very late reply here & great to see at long last that someone else is still alive and kicking from that night. It was absolutely brilliant! Funily enough - one of the guys who I went with bought his first synth on that day from Music Ground in Doncaster which was a Korg MS10. I had a Crumar DS2 at the time and we formed a band named Urbantech and played original synth music a little later on. I will post a live concert from 1981 by Urbantech sometime this month and send you the link. I'll agree with you that night was a life changer as I'd seen the league's earlier gigs but they were mostly support for other bands or as part of a few bands and played a shorter set around half hour. Among the other early league gigs I saw that stood out was at the F Club in Leeds and it was supporting Pere Ubu which was short but good. I absolutely adore this version of Blind Youth and it should have been recorded in studio as the album version in my opinion as it blitzes the reproduction version. We've also recorded this version of Blind Youth along with Being Boiled which we still play live sometimes (it still leaves the audiences stunned!!) and is as near as could be (rough and ready) so I'll post that as well soon when its mixed.
