    I'm still amazed I had to search for this channel as long as I did. I've never wanted to find a channel soo badly. Other channels are maybe 10% of coverage I wanted. RetroRGB is close but focuses on interconnections which I don't need until I'm ready to mod. I get so excited when new mod news video comes out I can't stand it ! lol

    About USB PD: it's possible to power consoles up to and including the Wii U (it's at the limit though) and that's something I'm interested in. Most of these small boards use chips called "triggers" that negotiate just one fixed voltage. The problem is that not every power supply supports the full range of voltages, and there's a current limit on each of them. Another problem with NES/Famicom is that they're very sensitive to how stable power is. That's why 5V straight from USB is bad but 9V is OK, their linear voltage regulator will take care of it (even if it's going to waste almost half of that in heat). At the moment I'm waiting to get some chips from ST to try and build my version of this, using a separate voltage regulator to try and make it more efficient.

    I have a Nomad with a 1p port put in you just have to tap into the analog controller chip inside and wire it to a port, and then we put it right next to p2 and then put in a on and off switch on screen, but I'm still waiting for the new board hes making I cant wait. Good to see it will be able to do this

    Super happy about the stadia controller. It's really comfortable in the hands and will be great for a pc controller.

    Great video as always. I certainly would like some EE types to chime in on the mini DIN topic.

      The Kycon part only appears to be available with shielding. It was widely used in DirecTV boxes and extenders which reduced all of the analog outputs to a single miniDIN… since most users opted for HDMI. This is why you can find their “10PINCOMPON” and “10PINCOMPOS” cables new in package at most thrift stores. I haven’t seen anyone else make YPbPr component mods that use these but I’ve been doing it for years now. ;)

    I’ve been pushing 10P miniDIN for years at this point, but not for that reason: Fully-shielded “10PINCOMPON” component cables are commonly available all over North America. So common that I find them in almost every thrift store that I check… even though I still bought hundreds on eBay to build custom cables with. ;) That’s because they were often included with DirecTV boxes and extenders. They’re almost always new in package because the original owners typically never used it, opting for HDMI instead.
    Doujindance and RetroCastle use these with their projects though they are pinned for Sega Saturn. Original Saturn cables have some additional keying that prevents them from fitting without modifying the port but most aftermarket Saturn cables fit.
    That said, I don’t think it’s needed for a scaler or switch’s input because certain signals can easily share a pin (sync and composite, for example).

      @@dubesinhower Of course, this is mostly for YPbPr component mods, like NESRGB and 2600RGB with the add-on. You can also chop them up and install other connectors to make N64Digital/UltraHDMI, Wii, PS3, etc YPbPr cables. For systems with mono audio, like NES, you could use one of the audio cables for sync and do RGBS… heck, the wire even has yellow color coding when you strip down the cable so some matching heat shrink over the repurposed audio connector works perfectly.

    Stadia controller was super comfy and has nice tactile buttons. It's the only good thing about the Stadia experience.
    I'm super glad that the controller is getting a Bluetooth firmware. The controller is basically a brick to me right now

    The minidin 10 / Saturn connector discussion seems like more American cable fetishism alongside HDRV cables, to be honest.
    Yes it's more capable than a MD2 connector whilst remaining small but like you suggest it's probably only something that might make sense for that tiny group of people without any existing analogue cabling and desire to reinvent the wheel.
    Full disclosure: As a European who's had RGB SCART TVs, consoles and switchers since the early 90s, I'm not the demographic for any new analogue cabling solutions, and probably never will be.

      Well, I’d love to see YPbPr component mods adopt it over the 8pin miniDIN you find with NESRGB, 2600RGB, etc. It helps that DirecTV “10PINCOMPON” cables are available new in package at almost any thrift store in North America… fully shielded with stereo audio. These are perfect for PVM/Extron setups anywhere. There are millions and millions of North American TVs and monitors that accept them natively and near 0% that accept SCART. Heck, we’re as likely to find a SCART TV in the wild here as you are to find JP21.
      I think it’s well-suited to a YPbPr component mod that does not use an existing connector (NESRGB, 2600RGB, PC Engine dongle, etc).

    • @segajcharrua
      @segajcharrua Рік тому +2

      Also for DIYers like myself that type of conector is the worst to make homemade cables.

    • @emmettturner9452
      @emmettturner9452 Рік тому +1

      @@segajcharrua Yep. It’s a huge pain. Doujindance uses it for the white PCE mod and RetroCastle uses it for their MiSTer analog I/O boards but they are pinned for existing Saturn cables… not the ubiquitous (in North America) 10PINCOMPON YPbPr cables you find in thrift stores everywhere (usually still sealed in their DirecTV bag). I have seen SCART cables for some PAL satellite TV box using the same multi-out but I have no idea how common those might be in the rest of the world.
      One of the audio cables on the 10PINCOMPON cables is color-coded yellow inside and the audio cables are fully shielded too… which means you could use them for RGBS cables on a mono console with a bit of heat shrink to change the plug color. These would be perfect for PVMs and matrix switches that use either RCA or BNC jacks. Indeed, I bought 100+ to chop the mDIN off and make YPbPr, RGsB, and RGBS cables for a ton of my consoles… using their less-annoying plugs. ;) I also made a ton of YPbPr cables this way for N64Digital and UltraHDMI. Cost was $1.30 each plus the console-specific connector for a fully-shielded coaxial cable.

    almost thought that Nomad was a GameGear until I saw sonic wasn't lagging lmao

    @Deltax5 Рік тому +1

    Retrotink 4k looks promising. I think 4k up scaling on a 4k TV means the TV may not have to do it. Less lag. Meh i got a lg c1 best tv out for now.
    Dreamcast controller port would be nice. Ill be getting a ready one. Good to have instead of battery mod. I think i need a new one for one of the dreamcast. I messed up the ribbon cable. hope they get it working for all the models. Prob pick up the gamecube one as well.
    Those third party controllers are terrible for the switch. They lack the features of a joycon has. It needs to have the same features at least.
    rumble, gyro, ir, NF, motion controls all need to be implemented. Turbo is always nice to have.,

    Adopting SCART as the de facto standard in the first place was idiotic, but it's too late to change now. DB-25 could've been used with a similar pinout to SCART, would be more readily available, more compact, and not easily confused with another video connector (as DE-15 surely would with VGA).
