1st look at the New Green River Narrows: Whitewater kayaking: Nothing is the same...
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Level might have been 20-22 the river has completely changed and nothing is the same as it once was. Forever remember the memories of the Old school Green, and welcome the challenges of the "New Green" #stout 10/2/2024
Great footage! From a seventy year old guy, you guys rock, stay safe and stay alive. Totally different water now.
People are gonnu complain about people clearing trails and getting river data right now, buuuut when they're ready to get back on the water themselves... they'll be glad someone has already did the work.
Thanks man, we appreciate you!
Thank you for the kind words!
Absolutely crazy how much water moved through there and how it ripped that place apart. Sad days for sure. A new river is born.
Crazy😢
Sad
Wow, great video... hard core boater from the late 80's through the mid 90's here, and it's been a long time since I have seen the Green, and seeing changes after the floods is amazing. I never cease to be amazed at how much power water can have. I remember the last huge river changing floods in 1991 (I think that was the year) and seeing the "Canisters" that used to form a well defined "3rd Drop" at the top of Quarter Mile Rapid on the Nolichucky get moved all the way to the bottom of the rapid. Glad to see no log jams screwing up good lines for years. Be careful out there guys, until you figure out where all the possible new strainers and shifted undercuts might be.
It’s crazy!
1st & only video i seen o yours, had to comment, my dude is the only cat sides myself usin a canoe paddle 🤙
The river looks so much wider. Thats crazy!
U remind me of my brothers who would go surfing on the ingoing and outgoing hurricanes 😂 when I was growing up in NJ.
❤😂
Incredible to see how much it’s changed. The sieve on sunshine, the stoutness of Rapid Transit (where did that house-sized boulder on the left go?!), the Notch gone - REALLY?!, Go Left without.a river right sneak, Groove Tube no longer a tube at all.
Don’t let the haters get you down. There are tragedies every day, including tragedies of poverty and oppression. No-one is helping 100% of the time, and most don’t help much at all.
Nothing wrong with getting out there to mourn the river’s changes and to welcome something new.
All love thank you❤
I have been looking for this update.
So sad for so many to lose so much. Many lives lost, Homes, and yet, these guys find a way to shake of the gloom & doom, and make a day of exploring. Sad that so much is changed. I've hiked this many times.
I'm glad you didn't see any bodies caught up in those trees.
Glad you all made it SAFE.
Thank you for the kind words!
Seems kind of disrespectful to be kayaking so soon after the disaster.
It's good to see that some people can enjoy some part of what would be normal for them. The chance to do something you love to do and to get your mind off the situation that y'all are in right now.

Yes thank you
Hey guys, great video. I have family up there so we’ve gone up multiple times a year since I was a kid to enjoy exactly what you guys are enjoying, the rivers and their wild beauty. I can’t imagine the changes, or how it will continue to change, but I can imagine it’s like exploring completely new rivers right now. Be safe out there, keep showing people that life goes on, it is what we make it. 💜🌞
Great to see people out kayaking and enjoying nature.
trying
Shocked to see the changes but look forward to riding the river in the future.
This is savage! Praying for the communities around western NC and beyond.
🎉
Thank you for posting this so quickly, sad to see the changes, but hopefully there’ll still be fun moves at “normal” levels, whatever that’ll be.
Ofc
My god... the risks... you guys are highly skilled.
That sucks. Our old cabin on the Cane R, which we just sold last year, is gone, as is everything near any river that was in the flooding zone.
So sad. Thanks for showing us what it's now like.
❤
The power and force of Mother Nature is quite amazing.
Yes
Only just found out about the "new" green the other week this is so sad as i was so looking forward to doing the "old"green race in a few years as ive only just turned 18
@@lewiscarden8009 man just keep shredding the new green is slowly getting checked off come try er in a couple years
thanks for posting!
No problem!
Wow. Thank you for showing us.
Off homie
Damn you guys are good
Much love
That looks like so much fun!
🎉
Always super sketchy running after floods. Glad y'all were safe.
Thank you!
Thanks for posting Landon! Appreciate it. The river looks beaten AF, I have a feeling over some years of high/low fluctuation it will slowly fill in and get better. But "100%" flows maybe manky for the foreseeable future.
The hydro station was destroyed so no regular flows at all :(
@@Louiechikayak That could be a good thing for more silt, natural debris, and regular high water surges to help fill in the new rock piles.
Much love EG🙌
@@evangarcia9698exactly 🤘
Wow. Thank you for the update.
Thank you
It was my local for a summer. It's like an old friend has died. Y'all take care, Kiakaha from Aotearoa.
Sad to see her go
@@Landonmillerkayak Just have to come back and run it again. Anyone been into Toxaway yet?
I’m glad to see some enjoyment coming out of a tragic happening. The Mom in me says, “please wear a helmet.” A friend of mine died from head injury while kayaking and he was wearing a helmet at the time.
Fantastic beta, thanks.
Thanks for liking
No river is ever the same. Always sad to see classic rapids wiped away forever.
For ever sad to see😢
The put in area for the tubing companies was my kids and my happy place!!! A 25 minute ride from home with no extra admission to ride Green River Cove Rd!!! We live in Florida now and one of the first 2 things the kids asked about besides family when they heard about the floods back home was about "our river spot" and chimney rock...
A part of us will always be in the mountains no matter where we live!!!
No exactly so sad, hard for the yougins to understand and cope with this.
If you're referring to the one at the 1st bridge, its gone completely along with about 35 houses.
No words. Be safe out there!
Nonr
Looks like a great river for this, don't know about before but great now. Great to see these guys taking risks seriously, scouting out drops first, and skipping the most danerous.
Yesssaiii
Wild!
R.I.P. old friend...
Rip
historic to see the crux of this natural cycle occurring right now. Feels like the US has had a period of quiescent weather for a while now- the great California deluge of 1862, severe El Ninos in the 1850s and 1870s, the dust bowl of the 1930s, the LA flood of 1938, and I'm hearing flood records in this region just broken were set in like 1916 or the late 19th century. Longer term perhaps AGW is precipitating the restoration of the warmer and wetter pre-Pleistocene climate for good.
Crazy for sure❤
Amazing boater(s). Thanks for showing what happened to that beautiful run. So much loss throughout all of NC.
Glad you enjoyed it🎉
Thank you
Thank you for posting this, and nice run! Crazy to see the changes, and it will be strange to see this running clear again with this insane face lift.
It’s gonna be cool to see!
epic reconnaissance! keep it safe
Thanks mannn
Gnarly how nature can mo e mountain and river so easily and suddenly. Savage run gents. Thanks for bringing this perspective.
Off
Rivers, communities and mountains are changing almost daily anymore. It’s a new world
Exactly
Where I live in TN along the Nolichucky, some places have been scoured down to the bedrock, the course of the river changed, likely forever -- or at least till the next 100 year flood.
no exactly
Thanks for doing this. The change is stunning. Glad you scouted some of those drops. Still it made me anxious. Good editing and ignore the haters in the comments.
All love thanks homie
Holy shit man. I’m mind blown. Feels good to see it’s still possible to kayak ❤️🔥❤️🔥
❤
What is that tunnel bored through the bedrock at 5:48....????????
Makes sense that Nutcracker, the rapid right above Groove Tube, closed down even more but I was hopeful that would be the one rapid to open up. I'm interested to see how it (hopefully) channelizes at lower water now that the cross-section profile is overall wider and flatter.
It honestly opened up. The water did change which channel it chose to flow down.
Thx
Ofc
7:30 Yikes! Thats some scary shit. Someone will end up getting pulled down that one day. Super Scary to see on a river
so scary to see
That tiny boaterX at 2:40.... priceless.
Hahah friend r 4
I’ve helped rescue a couple kayakers on a much much smaller river that didn’t take overwhelmed bridges into account when the river flooded. Not a smart move! Fast water almost beheaded them!
Whatever dude...
So valid
thxs man
Absolutely crazy bro. Nothings the same..
Nothing
Is
The same
Looks like quite a workout! Are you watching for remains or the trapped as you go? Since its sure a different view on the river than on land.
yes exactly
WOW! This is WILD.
For real
7:40 literally no words

MODERN DAY PIONEERS! FOR ANYONE SAY THESE GUYS SHOULD BE OUT HELPING OTHERS....WELL THEY ARE. PEOPLE NEED THIS BETA.
People need food, water, and shelter. People need medicine and baby formula and gasoline and medical supplies. People WANT this beta.
@@branecollision all of those resources are being provided. It’s people out in the middle of the woods and down in the gorges that can’t get help. I know people down there and I’ve been checking in. A lot of people are getting power back outside of the city and a lot of people have water. Running water. Where are these guys are paddling leads to an area that is completely in accessible by vehicle. If they are the first people down there and they have recorded it and posted it this is important information That rescue operations can use. All of this land has changed 100% world renowned rapids are washed away. People are in dire need. Yes. Also guys these guys are risking their lives to explore it and to figure out what happened to the river. The green river switchbacks are completely washed out everything there is an accessible. It’s only by kayak foot or helicopter.
@@onlygoosefansthe entire region has changed geographically. Boulders have shifted in creeks. Banks have grown by yards. It’s a new dynamic.
We do not know or can’t visualize the epic amount of water at peak. Like mentioned hydro stations busted.
Flow hydrology has been altered like before turn of many centuries.
Thank you!
@@onlygoosefans❤
Amazing first descent I guess. Maybe more stuff like this coming.....
more is on the way
Never road the river but I hiked the game land down big hungry alot. I am curious as to how it has affected the over all challenge of the river/ride. I see the comments sad, which it is without a doubt, but does that mean sad as in the river runs have been ruined/ lowered in quality or sad as in the joy of the old runs will never be experienced again? Was the ride as enjoyable or did the runs loose their quality?
That sieve at Sunshine… 😳☠️
Gnarly.
I guess we can forget every line we remembered. Just like to Cheat River Flood. Great video.
Thank you!
Thank you for this great video of the new Green River Narrows!👍👍 Here’s a little video for your enjoyment!👍…ua-cam.com/video/pn-3rYFdTLA/v-deo.htmlsi=1XkOUIWbqHWMEJFL
Wild!!!!
Yes🎉
Sooo much knar water flow. During peak, all those rocks were under water for certain.
Crazy flow
Damn man you got out on it quick.

Insane!
😮
Is that your kayak you had before the storm? Havent seen your channel before. Brings to mind PSA Just cause somethings in the river doesnt make it yours but should try to reunite with owners everyone.
it was my kayak prior to the storm
Wow. All I can say is

Thanks🎉

Sad “no words”
Wow! Sunshine. :(
Exactly
Is there gold in them hills? Looks like you guys might wanna start looking again
We might have to
Stonks.
Donks
This is wild to see. Does it look like Gorilla is still runnable, maybe on the right hand Christopher Columbus line? It looks like the pool above it is higher than it used to be (and there's a boulder over the notch). Is that right? Sunshine looks like the opposite issue -the pool immediately above is lower, probably because the water is pouring through that siphon next to your foot.
Yeah looks like mandatory Christopher Columbus now, landing on who knows what
High water for sure
@@gemmawatson6100face breaker for sure
8:00 is the stuff of nightmares.
Yea
Thanks for posting. Is the section easier or harder than pre-Helene?
Harder
The notch is gone 😭 (maybe)
it is RIP
Watch out.....tressssss

That river is still full of human waste, animal waste, dead animal remains, chemicals, diesel, oil, and who knows what else… I wouldn’t be in there if I were you.
I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately human remains as well…

I wonder if it will be easier or harder at normal levels.

Man.. vehicles/houses washing away with roads. Into the river. With HUMANS likely still in them drowned under your path.
We looked, hard to say but we did.
What was the flow/ do you know?
20 inches ❤

For real
Fucking devastating...
For sure
@@Landonmillerkayak Oh hey Landon. Sorry we had to talk for the first time under these sad circumstances, but just wanted to say awesome C1 Stikine run, you're a beast! So sorry about what happened to the Green. I live in DC and have only gotten up there twice, and was with a class both times that had a mandatory walk on the Big 3, but I can't even imagine how kayakers living in that area feel. I will never forgive myself for not running Gorilla when I was up there. Figured I could always go back and run it next year because the river "wasn't going anywhere" as everyone in my class kept saying... Welp! I'm still in disbelief. I keep hoping this is a nightmare I'm going to wake up from some point, and be able to tell my friends about this crazy dream I had where the entire Green Narrows was destroyed by flooding from a hurricane.
Glad you get to play while people are hurting!!😢
everyone copes differently
Been hurting aswell don’t worry, yes not to some extent as others but you know had to take my mind off somethings and solve other things
It's absolutely fine.
The power is water is scary and cool. I have never run this but it be interesting to see a side by side of an old run at about the same level and this run to see just how much it has changed.
Scary
Thrrrs houses that floated in there sewer stuff from nuclear waste
yes it was very stinky
I guess you guys get rights on renaming some rapids now.........1st descent and all. Not the same river. This is not the same as some Meadow creek West Va mild reshuffle of the river bed. The Green looks more like Cherry Bomb than the Green.
I feel worse about gorilla than the loss of a House someone builds beside a body of water.
@@PeytonWest-rr2pgprovided memories for all of us
Great, now get a chainsaw and shovel and help the people who are still stranded
Beat me to it, Tom. Sightseers and gawkers are one of the biggest detriments to the recovery efforts right now
Yes exactly! Either go help those stranded or spend your time on UA-cam telling other people to go help those that are stranded 😂
@@josephmyers64 who’s to say the guy that said to go help isn’t there helping
Don't be so serious. Nothing wrong with encouraging others to help, just be nice about it

Damn is the green race still on for this year?
Probably not. All my mountain biking races have been moved or canceled
Seriously! All the f'n carnage that's taken place, all the people killed, all the homes and businesses swept away...and you wanna talk about a damn race! I hope you never have to live through something like this and then read some dumbass question like yours! Some of us barely got out alive and you wanna insult us survivors like that... I pity you you fool!
@@XCBenyes!
For sure❤🎉
Is nothing runnable between franks and go left? How is boofers? Pin cushion? Etc
You just missed it. Pincushion, whale tail, and boofers are all on video there. Boofers appears to be the only one they had to walk around, big old sieve pile looks like.
Good
Cant hate at the boys getting after it, but I wouldn't want to be in there right now. Be safe
Thanks❤
Now that nature took your fun away, respect our local rivers next time boys. It's your foot traffic, building next to creeks and rivers that contributed to this river being trashed, you kayakers are part of the problem. Stop building next to our river. Stop playing in the backyards of people that lost everything. Stop harassing fisherman . Just stay away, nature took away your narrows, now leave our poor little river alone. Go out west!
Paddlers are usually fighting for river and nature preservation all around the world. Idk what you're talking about.
