  • I removed the baffles from the stock muffler of the Speed Twin.
    It was a relatively easy job IF you had the right tools. I had to buy a slide hammer to take mine out.
    If you don't have a slide hammer, a fellow '22 speed twin owner and UA-cam content creator David Mohr has a clever solution that might work for you here:

    With the catalytic converter in place your not gonna notice a huge difference. Once you 86 the cat you'll definitely get some free power.

    I did it the other way around on my 2019 Speed Twin: x-pipe in lieu of cat and I kept the mufflers in. You get about a 10 percent reduction in fuel consumption and a little bit more torque. Top speed is the same. Bike is lighter too. Now slightly louder but I annoy nobody.
    Nice video, cheers

      I don’t quite trust myself doing a de-cat on this new bike… i’ll have to ask my dealer if they’ll do it for me within reason $-wise. Thanks for watching, cheers

      @@8Jericho8 Pretty sure the dealer can't remove your catalytic converter? It's not a hard job really. No special tools required except a T-55 Torx bit. Just need to support the bike without the kickstand, in order to remove the left side frame rail. Took me a couple hours, but I dilly dally alot. Oh, you'll need to purchase new intermediate pipes because the catylic converter is welded to them on the new Speed Twin. So unless your willing to cut up your factory exhaust (which I don't recommend) you'll have that small added expense. I found some chrome intermediate pipes on E-bay for $99 delivered. I bought a British Customs competition X-pipe with the bike from the dealer. So approx. $300 for parts and if you install them yourself it's reasonable. It's the best mod you can do on the bike, period.

      @@andrewbecker3700 Yes, a dealer absolutely will remove a cat. Secondly when you remove a cat or go with a full exhaust now you have to tune /flash the bikes ECU. Just removing the baffles tor only doing slip on cans, that is not required.

      @andrewbecker3700 Рік тому +1

      @@RetroRickey I don't know where you heard removing the cat on a second gen Speed Twin requires an ECU flash? But it's not true. Will a custom tune allow more power, yes. Is it necessary, no.

      If your willing to throw out your 2 year factory warranty, and have a dealer bend you over for mods that in many cases accomplish zero horsepower gains, go for it.

    Excellent video! How does she ride without the baffles? Did you notice any improvement to performance or a smoother throttle response? Thanks

    • @8Jericho8
      @8Jericho8  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words. I really haven’t really noticed any performance improvements to be honest.

    • @RetroRickey
      @RetroRickey Рік тому

      There is no performance benefit of removing baffles. If anything the bike will run a little leaner, and therefore a little hotter. An ecu tune with just baffles removed will only add 3-4 horsepower at best so its really not worth getting the tune. This is strictly a sound mod.

    At that difference. I wouldnt even bother remove my db killer. Not unless it really has benefits apart from being louder?

    3DB gain is 1/2 as loud again than your start point 6 DB is 100% louder

    I can't send a picture of the 'Thailand version' of the exhaust for 2022 ST12. It is completely different and has no screw. So, X-pipe it is!!!

      Hi dave xs! I don’t trust myself with an x-pipe install. Hats off to you and I hope that it turns out well, all the best 👍

      @@8Jericho8 Thanks Jericho. I did indeed fit the X-Pipe. I kept the OEM mufflers and the sound is a perfect, not to loud to be offensive, but certainly louder. It now has a nice deep, pleasurable and noticeable note. Rubber side down...👍

    Those smartphone apps for DB measurement aren't exactly accurate either.

    Why. What is the point??? Here in Europe you have more and more rules regarding abusive sound, and more, you have roads that are forbidden for motorcycles. All you guys that feel so entitled, its my freedom bl bla bla, but then you ruin all of our freedoms just for a louder bike. Congrats.

      That is pure bullshit. If they close roads even for stock bikes (yes they do in Germany or Austria), then it is not about loud exhaust. It is power trip from state. We call it salami method - small slice by slice and in the end there is nothing left. It starts with mountain roads, continues with city parts and ends who knows where.
