Good job Buddy! I have a couple of these lying around and I think I'll Drill and tap the block and install a plate steel reinforcement at the area that cracks along with red Loctite on the sump bolts.
The factory should have put out a warning and notification to remove bolts and red lock tight all the lid bolts 😢😢😢 It would have saved a ton of engines and gave them a bad reputation for sure 👍 😢

What surprised me is I tell them that I need to check the bolts and they say I will let you know if I need it Then come back year later and tell me they have a oil leak and a noise I really want to laugh at them but I just say block crack now😊😊😊
Do you think that just the "gas line bushing's" installed in the closer plate, to fill the 2mm hole gap, would work with the original bolts all the way around? without using the exhaust manifold bolts you used?
Yes, you could absolutely us the original bolts. I chose the exhaust manifold bolts for more clamping force. Just make sure the line slides over your bolts well.
This one did too. Exhaust gaskets and parts loose. Common for even other engines on this chassis type. As the engine cracks valve clearances change and rough running will occur. If you drain the oil and see a lot of metal shimmer, it may not be worth saving as the case and cylinder may be too far gone. But as at least a partial teardown is needed to prep this motor once open you can judge what might be best for you.
The engine mounting bolts loosen up, so check them. Kohler engines are good solid engines, just not the Kohler Courage (especially the single cylinder), it is a dog. Too many problems for me to list, just do some research. If you address the problems it is at least maintanable.
I tried tig welding it... what a disaster, the aluminum is terrible quality and also impregnated with oil. Plus it's a tough spot to get the torch in. but the bigger problem is... as soon as I added a little heat the crack opened up further. My fix... clean the crack as best as you can, fill it with jb weld then reinforce the crankcase with a metal bracket. The bracket provides the strength, the jb weld seals in the oil. Don't overthink the repair!

I have one. Got it for free. The thing starts and runs, but the motor wobbles and sounds like something is knocking bad at start up

Why won't somebody just mig weld this crack? Watched many videos on yt on this subject but nobody actually weld it. Why?

2 seasons with about 90 hrs. Still good.

No problem just play at 1.5x speed. I do it all,the,time to speed up videos. Voice still sounds great
