  • What's happening, folks! I'm back with another ABBA reaction, and this time we begin going through their 1976 album Arrival. And the first track on the record is "When I Kissed the Teacher," a funny title that might raise an eyebrow, but the song is in great fun and has some incredible singing from the ladies (and maybe Frida specifically in some parts?). Either way, join me as we kick off the next (and, from what I understand, a really important) album from the one and only ABBA. Cheers!

A '70s schoolgirl's fantasy included in a massively succesful and iconic '70s album that accelarated Abba.It was the epitome of earcandy Europop but greatly produced the perfect, flawless Abba way.

Original working title to WIKTT was "Rio De Ja Neiro'.ARRIVAL's follow up album "ABBA THE ALBUM' was a creative artistic progression into more prog/pop-rock American Californian flavoured sound of that era but still manages to sound as fresh and adventurous' as it was at the time of release. You'll see.Abba didn't repeat themselves.

There's an official music video for this song. Check it out, it's fun.
Their live version in Australia 77 is also testament of ABBA's live vocal prowess.
Agnetha's on lead Vocals, and the harmonies were a combination of Frida's and Agnetha's. Check out Australia 77 live version to verify these facts

Very fun song. Those layered voices are saying I want to hug hug him, hug hug him or variations there of. Complex harmonization in a song with a simple message - Hey I’ve got a crush on my teacher. Simple, playful video for this song also. Thanks Matt 👍

What memories ! ...remember just like yesterday. ABBA ARRIVAL was the very first LP Album Record I bought with first paycheck from my first job when I was 14. Yes the worldwide hit Dancing Queen had already reached #1 everywhere including the USA and now the hit Knowing Me, Knowing You was out which I love just as much as the previous iconic DQ. This iconic image of the Swedish fab four inside the helicopter as just landed is so cool ! They had arrived along with their new reversed 'B' trademark band logo. Before purchasing I remember my heart racing seeing the album in record stores with it's round hype sticker proclaiming the hits Money, Money, Money, Dancing Queen, and Knowing Me, Knowing You. Once In my owned possession, taking the LP out for first spin to hear all the songs, I was enthralled with the inner sleeve stunning photo image of the four now standing outside the helicopter, sunset background, dressed in these cool ass white jumpsuits. Formidable, good looking, hip, and yet mysterious. Not the usual group from either the US or the UK, but Sweden ??? No internet, no Google, No Wikipedia, had to get bits and pieces of info on them from radio, television, printed music publications....and it seemed the four could barely speak English and yet singing it ! All this cumulated in the air of mystic around them for me...from this LP onward I had ABBA Fever. I would go on to purchase all their LP records, each time with such anticipation that after a month of listening to current album I eagerly waited for their next new one LP.

The song is vocally and instrumentally arranged and perfected, as interesting and lively as almost every song by Abba.
I'm curious when you get to songs like *The name of the game*, *the visitors*, *eagle*, *I'm a marionette* or *That's me* for example. I'm still thrilled after listening 100 times.

It's Agnetha on the solo parts. Must admit when I first heard this aged 9 the idea of kissing one of the old ladies I had as teachers was a bit strange. A few years later I had a history teacher I would have gladly snogged the face off. So it's relatable.

Hello again! so nice to see Your new reaction in our fantástic ABBA Journey
    "When I kissed the teacher " (1976)
this song is very funny, with powerful rhythm and fantastic backvoices
with the blonde singer Agnetha in leads
there is a official video so creative, where Agnetha plays her rol so well; it's one of the Most funny videos of ABBA with "Head over heels" & "Take a chance on me"
It also shows that great things can be done with simplicity
Two details in these special video
(I suggest you to see it)
    1) I think Agnetha wears the diver number 32 (at that time the famous American baseball player O.J. Simpson used it)
    2) That Agnetha lip bite is one of her trademarks (I don't think she's a tic)
She is very seductive with this, and also with the look in her eyes
These is a TV perfomance of ABBA in the Netherland 1976, it shows Them with the kimonos suite And another TV perfomanece of ABBA in a special trip to Poland, where ABBA premier the songs of the "Arrival" album
And was included in the Europe & Australia Tour 1977, with beautiful imaged in the film "ABBA The Movie"
"When I kiss the teacher" (1976)
is the opening track from the album "Arrival", a Masterpiece of pop music
    with three worldwide hits like
"Dancing Queen", "Money money money" & "Knowing me knowing you"
    and another greatest songs like
"My love My life", "That's me", "Tiger",
    and the instrumental "Arrival"
I wish You a great weekend

Arrival is another step up from their previous work (but still not their peak, IMO that's the next album). The songs are getting more intricate, as you already noticed with the multi-layered vocals in this song. Several tracks have become classics.

  • @danbike9

That Agnetha with the solo verse.
Agnetha voice is pop. Upper chest.
Frida voice is classical. Diaphragmatic breathing. Warm timbre.
I think that is what makes ABBA very difficult than other groups that have two female leads. A pop voice - Agnetha.
    A classical voice - Frida.
Michael B Tretow in an interview (see UA-cam) summed up the two girls voices:
    Agnetha: "punchy"
    Frida: "hi-fi" (high-fidelity)

Don't know what happened to Abba between this album and the last. A miraculous improvement on what was already good! l also think Frida goes for it vocally in a way she perhaps didn't in the previous albums. Much more assertive.

silly lyric lol but a great song and performance! This one is indeed the 'happy innocent part' of ABBA, the melancholy part will develop in time in big part influenced by their personal experience (with each other..). Some songs on this album are brilliant in the melancholic sphere. Some are great in mixing these two aspects of life (happy and melancolic, also a treadmark of ABBA)

As usual the arrangements, both instrumental and vocal, are on point if not more complex than ever, but the lyrics just don't work for me. If i didn't speak English (as many or most of their fans don't) i think this would be one of my favourites, but i do so it's not. Can't win 'em all.
