Hi Andy great video and very informative. Just one question when do you take the spacers out, after the first 12hrs cure, cut off and leave in then mastic over? keep them coming very helpful
Hiya, The green 5mm spacers stay in there. They are fixed in with the mastic and get covered anyway. I can just about see a bit of one of mine if I look at the inside of the window. As soon as its cured you can snip off bits that have squeezed out too much to leave a tidy edge... Hope this helps...😉👍👍
Hi Andy, I'm new here . You are a natural in front of cameras. I love your calm laid back approach to teaching us about fish. I binge watching your work....I have a 13 year old pond , although just shubunkin , goldfish and ornamental goldfish ... Just love how you explain things so clearly .... I've a feeling your in UK, but perhaps up north. I cannot hear well, I'm trying to guess. Where are you based , if you don't mind me asking ? I agree on a window at the side so you can watch them from the garden seating area. But it still looks wonderful. We are hoping to move house in the near future ...we are based in Wales. So I'm taking great tips from you. We bought a wooden fish pond for when we arrive there..... ..then over time we will build a brick pond similar to yours but more rugged and natural on the outside . Now you've enticed me to get a window ...very interesting . Absolutely loved how you covered the window in thick padded material during the winter . Also loved your winter roof system too..very clever . Looking forward to watching many more videos . Thank you . 👍👍👍
Hiya, glad your enjoying the videos, and thanks for the feedback.. I live in the Midlands so not far off the North.. 🤔😉. Good lucknwith your house move and your new pond build. Have a great Christmas. 👍😉
I love the idea of the window but not sure about your approach, I'm going to build the cut out like yours but I'm going to make it a frameless window, I am thinking along the lines of fitting a roofing lat a couple of inches in from the inside edges of the concrete cut out on the inner walls and then fiberglassing over it all, then get a local car window fitter to sicoflex around it and fit the glass, no frame required and only a single place where a leak could develop, no screws, no frame and 1 point of failure... what do you think ?
Sounds like a plan. I only put the frame in as I didn't have the experience of cutting out the recess. Once it was cut there was no going back so made the frame Instead. Can't knock it till you've tried it. Let me know how you go on with your idea..😉🤔👍
So I am just about to install a kockney koi skimmer box on my pond just wondering how best to install it. The skimmer box is around 1 inch above the main water level on my pond. well I hope it is the pond seems to be level know. So what advise would you give about fitting a skimmer ? the skimmer seems to be a 1/4 above what will be the water level. I in vision the water level of the pond will be about 1 inch below the top of the sleepers. Above that will be a capping piece of wood which is about 50mm in thickness. 2
Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. The decking is just wooden decking from my local DIY store. I think it cost around £7 a length at the time? Cheers..😉👍👍
Kolam ikan yang sangat bagus, tapi saat perawatan kolam ikannya harus diperhatikan sambungan kaca dengan dindingnya, thank you for the Vidio (sory my english is not good 😊🙏)
Mine are a 2 metre window an a 3metre window both 40 mm thick. The 3 metre was just shy of a quarter of a tonne. Glass suckers just couldn't handle it but because the 316 stainless frames were embedded in the walls and the front was flush with the outside of the pond we set the glass on trestles on the ledge inside the pond and then rotated them upwards into the frame and onto the silicone. All very stressful. My frames were made by Atlantica of 316 stainless. Not cheap but brilliant..
I've been looking at the Atlantica frames because the window is at the front. Would you recommend them a year on then? I've seen they are pricey but once they're there they should last forever. Did you build your pond from blocks and if so did you have them laid down or upright mortared in?
@@joeyj6526 Yes I would still highly recommend them, they are a major piece of quality engineering. I keep the frame outers clean with a soft damp cloth. They were a fair bit of work to put in but they really do the task well and the koi are constantly at the front especially when they see the food coming..
@@joeyj6526 my construction was 7N block on flat with mortar to ground level, then I put a reinforced concrete collar around at that level so I had a base to put the facing stone on. The frames were sat on the block at ground level and the blocks were built up either side. The frames protruded from the flat blocks by the thickness of the facing stone. I also put re-bar down through the frame lugs so that there was no chance of buckling or movement.
Thanks for the reply! I've just seen another video by this fella and seen how he had blocks laying down flat and then blocks upright, so the bottom is stronger against the water pressure. I think I'd do the same as you and go for a concrete collar aswell. Thanks for the info mate. I think the Atlantica frames are going to be worth the investment. Cheers
Oh and don't cut the tops out if you are doing infinity windows until the frames are all set in because that keeps them all square. You can cut the top while supporting the other end and vice versa then carefully file the exposed frame ends to a polished finish and jobs a goodun.
Hiya, I should have used 25mm insulation sheets but ended up using the 15mm which seem to have dome a good job. If I built another I'd use the 25mm sheets next time.. Are you going with a big window. I'd definitely go bigger if I did it again...😉👍
Yeah, it's going to be approx 2m wide by just over 0.5m high. I'm just weighing up if I should fibre glass or use a pond liner for cost (even though I know fibre glass would be better)
Hiya, I've not used CT1 before but I think others have. I'd stick with the sealant I used in the video. TBH the sealant is literally to water proof seal, the water pressure holds the glass in with the sealant.. 😉👍
Great video. 1. Do you have problems with herons ? And has your decoy worked? 2. The circular brick maze, is that your old pond ? 3. Do you have anyone you can recommend to build one like yours ? I'm in Birmingham
Hiya. Thanks for your comments. I used to have a Heron that would land on the side of the pond but luckily scared it off. I put the fake one in and not seen one since. Maybe the fake one works or I really scared it off the last time? The circular one was my old pond. It was falling apart so needed replacing with the one I have now. I used a builder from work to lay the block work and I did the rest myself. I would definitely use some one you know or that's been recommended as I've seen some nightmare builds... Cheers..😉👍👍
Great video and 100% will take on all the information!.. can I ask, where did you get the little plastic pieces that you put into the bottom on the glass for support?.. Also other then the visible screws you used to hold the frame in did you use anything else is sealant or anything else to keep it to hold in place? Thank you
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video. The spacers are used when fitting house hold window frames in so you can get them from most DIY shops. The screws were there just to hold the frame in place. As soon as the fibreglass goes in that will hold the frame. Then it's the sealant and water pressure that holds the glass in the frame, hence why you need to get the water in as soon as the sealant has gone off... 😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle oh I see.... So I could potentially have a tidy light layer of sealant around the frame as well as 2 screws each side and 3 along the bottom for example to half the frame in place. Then spacers along the bottom with sealant/mastic until glass if fixed and fill with water. Also I wasn't going to fibre glass the pond as I was thinking to concrete the inside of the pond and then apply 3-4 layers of black G4 Pond sealant which I've been told is more then enough to make the pond waterproof and will not leak. What are your thoughts on that?
@@porklehgoguy I would suggest to go as heavy as you can neatly get the sealant in place as more sealant is better than not enough as you'll get one chance at the fitting or you'll make a mess of the window if you have to have a second go. Yes the sealant will also work. What ever liner you put in, make sure you go over every inch to ensure there's no sharp edges for the fish once they are in.. 👍😉
@@KoiPondLifestyle ok cheers Andy.. thank you so much for the info. Can't wait to eventually get my pond built. Just doing all the homework now so I know what I'm in for and what to do or not to do to avoid any costly mistakes. Great content you have! Once again thank you 🙏

Good morning. Great video. I am currently planning my block pond. I’ve not on most videos I’ve seen that people lay the blocks flat. I’ve noticed that you haven’t. Have you had any issues laying the blocks in the upright position? Thanks Chris

What a great video, really helps out a lot for when I add a window to my next pond build in a few years, wish I did it for my current one but you know how it goes, you build and then wish you'd done things different when your a couple years into it haha. A quick question off subject what is the coping you've used round the top of the pond? it looks like composite boards like mine, but yours seems soo much thicker and wider than mine, is it composite or did you just buy a thick wood decking and paint it? cheers and keep up the vids really enjoying them ;)
Hiya and thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. For my coping, I used some wooden decking, turned it upside down and painted it slate grey. I priced up some actual slate and was quoted well over a £1000 so went for the wood. Every day is a school day! Cheers, ANDY...
Amazing! Well done! I'm planning to do something similar in my garden but I was thinking to use 20mm plexiglass instead of glass, what do you think? I will have about 3m^3 of water and my window is going to be 1.4m b x 0.8m h
I'd contact a glass dealer and ask that question. I've not heard of plexiglass being used so would consult a glass manufacturer first. Good luck with your window. They are a fantastic addition to your pond... beats any TV.. 😄😉👍
Acrylic tends to be better than glass. It doesnt shatter from impact like tempered glass does, resists cracking a lot better, is cheaper, and much lighter in weight. The only downside is that it can scratch easier than tempered glass.
Hiya, thanks for that feedback. I did look into that material instead of glass but was put off with the scratching as I didn't want to restrict myself from ways to clean the window..🤔😉👍
Hiya, The blocks were 140 solids. Single skin but the first three layers were laid flat to increase the strength of the base, as that's were all the weight of the water is. There is a full detail of my build in this video that should answer other questions you may have. ENJOY.. ua-cam.com/video/Ms4-UxEo7cU/v-deo.html
Looks good, about he same size as mine. Mine is level with the Garden and Im thinking of building it up with a window similar to yours and getting it fibre glassed. What did the fibreglass cost you and how long did it take.
@@KoiPondLifestyle Thanks for that, which way did you go with regard to a bottom drain. I was going to get a spindrifter but not sure what size. The 4" seems massive.
Educational this is thanks ! Why didn't you use acrylic? Much stronger than glass and less likely to break. Can be cheaper than glass, depending on sizes and thicknesses! I like your frame design!
I was torn between glass and acrylic but as you see went with glass as I wasn't sure about cleaning acrylic and it scratching as you do need to clean algae off them quite regular..😉👍 Glad you enjoyed the video..cheers
Hiya, I used a company called TuffX in Liverpool England. The glass was laminated x2 12mm thick. I think I give the glass details in the video. Thanks for watching..😉👍
Hi, the glass is 2 sheets of 12.5mm tempered glass between a lamination. The majority of glass suppliers can supply this type of glass. The thickness will depend on the size and volume of water you are looking to hold behind it... Hope this info helps.. 😉👍
At 1:20 into your video, you have a koi in the bottom right corner of your window. Can you tell me what kind of koi that is? I have one that looks very similar to yours and I have been trying to determine what kind he is. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hiya, I had that fish from my dealer for next to nothing as its a failed Shiro, meaning its black patched just disappeared over night so the fish wasn't worth anything anymore as he couldn't sell it, so I took it on. 😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle I bought mine, and named him Shadow, because he was black backed with scales there, but a silvery/bluish along his sides. Paid $8.00 at Petsmart two summers ago as a baby 3.5 inches long. Last summer, he turned into this beautiful pale blue along his sides, dark blue scales on his back and a fiery red belly. Then, this year he spawned with my white female and has now lost virtually all of his color afterward. The babies were co-spawned with a golden version of him, black scales along his back. Both males are basically scaleless anywhere except their backs. The babies are beautiful, now almost 5 inches long being born in May this year.
Hi, I have seen others using 'Bond it' HA6 silicone which is a marine grade safe for the water. I wouldn't opt for the cheap bathroom stuff due to it high content of non marine chemicals and how good it would be with its long term underwater tight sealing that isn't needed in you bathroom. Good luck if your fitting a window and thanks for watching...
If I am building a 500 gallon pond with the front glass, what do you think the thickness of the glass should be? Pond is 5 feet x 3 feet x 5 feet (not too large in US).
Hi Liz, I would say you could get away with a single 15mm thick piece of glass if your pond is only 500 Gallons. I would always suggest to over engineer everything for that piece of mind and check with your supplier as most are able to calculate the water volume and pressure against the glass? Good luck with your pond build. Have you seen my video on pond building? That should help with your planning.😉👍👍 Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/Ms4-UxEo7cU/v-deo.html

Great video. Ive been wanting to transfer my Koi into an above ground pond with a window setup. And yes a large enough window, more than I would think. Haha s there a reason you went with green fibreglass and not black ? Cheers for sharing. Note taken.
Hiya, Glad you enjoyed the video. I went for the green fibreglass because the surface turns green from natural algae growth anyway (maybe a bit darker green) so thought it would look more natural than the jet back that I'd seen on other pond keepers ponds. Cheers...😉👍👍
Hiya, The glass comes already to go from the factory supplier. They place a laminated sheet in between the two pieces of glass. The glass is treated and the edges polished so they are smooth. Hope you enjoyed the video...👍😉😉
I would suggest over engineering everything so there's no worries after. I'm unsure how much the thinner glass is but wouldn't recommend it.. thanks for watching..😉👍

Great video fella 👍🏼 Very informative and delivered in a way I can understand 😂😉 keep up the great work!
Thanks for that. Glad you enjoyed it..😉👍
Never knew TuffX was so close to my house. I've got a regular half sunken pond with a stream and waterfall. But I'm thinking of filling it in and building an above ground corner one during this summer. Thanks for the advice mate. I can fabricate my own frame as I have a welder. I'll have to get more fish though. 2 Koi just isn't enough
Hiya, glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your pond build. Think big with your window. You won't regret it.. I have a detailed video of my pond build with costs etc in the description.. 😉👍
Great video thank u very much.
No worries. Glad you enjoyed it...😉👍👍
12:05... Is that a Koi Moat going round your patio???
Cool!!!! 🍻🍻
Hi, That was the old Pond that we'd have for around 15years. All the brickwork was falling out and needed replacing, so decided to build another pond instead as I wanted one with a window and could develop the whole garden at the same time.. Here's a time lapse Video of how the whole project was done..😉👍.. ua-cam.com/video/_qdPqtvfWco/v-deo.html
Useful details, thanks. Any leaks? Looks a bit damp at the back 12:03.
Hiya, non as yet 3 years after fitting..😉👍 Glad it was useful for you..cheers
@@KoiPondLifestyle
You too .😄😄👍👍
Well done good sir. As always pleasure to watch your videos. Your friend over at TKA Randy.
Cheers mate. Right back at ya... Andy...😉
Great video, a question on your coping/decking. Is this composite? Looks great, if so how much etc…
Cheers
Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. The decking is just wooden decking from my local DIY store. I think it cost around £7 a length at the time? Cheers..😉👍👍
Kolam ikan yang sangat bagus, tapi saat perawatan kolam ikannya harus diperhatikan sambungan kaca dengan dindingnya, thank you for the Vidio (sory my english is not good 😊🙏)
Terima kasih atas komentar Anda. Selamat menikmati videonya... 😉👍
Awesome
Thank you..😉👍
I'm looking to do something very similar to this.
What were the foam sheets you used before fibre glassing?
Hiya, I should have used 25mm insulation sheets but ended up using the 15mm which seem to have dome a good job. If I built another I'd use the 25mm sheets next time.. Are you going with a big window. I'd definitely go bigger if I did it again...😉👍
Yeah, it's going to be approx 2m wide by just over 0.5m high.
I'm just weighing up if I should fibre glass or use a pond liner for cost (even though I know fibre glass would be better)
@DeanLeybourne8832 fibreglass to fit and forget..😉👍
Hi Mate, what have you used for the top border on the patio
Hiya, if you mean the pond coping, that is decking placed upside down and painted to look like Slate. 👌😊👍
Hi. What brand/model of silicone did you use? Thanks.
Hiya, the brand I showed in the video was the best I could get at the time. They also do a Gold version I believe..😉👍
Would CT-1 be a good option to hold the window?
Hiya, I've not used CT1 before but I think others have. I'd stick with the sealant I used in the video. TBH the sealant is literally to water proof seal, the water pressure holds the glass in with the sealant.. 😉👍
Gracias
😉👍👍

Hi mate good video. Just on a pond build my self. Did you get any more quotes for your glass from any were else. Im putting glass in 4x2. But on a budget my self. Not that far from you. I like oj very nice. Keep them coming. 👍
Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. I tried to get a quote from a couple of places in Stoke but they didn't seem interested or didn't seem to know what I was wanting? 'You want to put glass in a Pond' was the reply?? So Tuffx was recommended and they knew straight away what I wanted as they supply a lot of pond owners so I went with them... Good luck with your pond build. Cheers...ANDY...
Good morning. Great video. I am currently planning my block pond. I’ve not on most videos I’ve seen that people lay the blocks flat. I’ve noticed that you haven’t. Have you had any issues laying the blocks in the upright position?
Thanks Chris
Hiya, I laid the first 4 layers on their side for the base sections as that is where the most water pressure is and back filled around the base for more strength. Have a look at this video which has more info on how I built my pond and give details about the block work... ua-cam.com/video/Ms4-UxEo7cU/v-deo.html

Hey! How did you seal the frame from leaking? I apologize if I missed that in the video. Thanks!
The pond and frame was fibre glassed which sealed the frame into the pond..😉👍
Amazing!
@@KoiPondLifestyle fair enough. :)
Couple of quick questions if you don't mind what size are your blocks and is it single skin. Very useful vid cheers.
Hiya, The fibre glassing cost around £450 and took half a day as it was a hot day so the fibreglass went off very quick. Thanks for watching.. 😉👍👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Thanks for that, which way did you go with regard to a bottom drain. I was going to get a spindrifter but not sure what size. The 4" seems massive.
@@sedgie08 Hiya, Fitted a 4" bottom drain into the concrete base...My build is in this video. ua-cam.com/video/Ms4-UxEo7cU/v-deo.html
@@KoiPondLifestyle cheers
Educational this is thanks ! Why didn't you use acrylic? Much stronger than glass and less likely to break. Can be cheaper than glass, depending on sizes and thicknesses!
I like your frame design!
I was torn between glass and acrylic but as you see went with glass as I wasn't sure about cleaning acrylic and it scratching as you do need to clean algae off them quite regular..😉👍 Glad you enjoyed the video..cheers
Acrylic is stronger than glass but has the disadvantage of scratching easier than glass and will fade or cloud over time.
Did you stick the insulation on? And did the fiberglass go straight over the insulation?
Hiya. Yes just got some cheap sealant for the insulation just to hold it in place unril the fibreglass had gone straight over the top..😉👍👍
what kind of glass did you use? and how thick it is?
Hiya, I used a company called TuffX in Liverpool England. The glass was laminated x2 12mm thick. I think I give the glass details in the video. Thanks for watching..😉👍
Hello sir what type of glass you used in your glass window?? Tnx sir
So your a proud Koi parent..😊👍
Can silicone stick well to that frame? Like aluminum? Cause i dont instead to use the coating you have.

Hiya, I would turn it off so the koi have a day / night cycle. Maybe just us the light as a security light to deter predators?
@@KoiPondLifestyle thanks turned the light of now so they get day and night.
What is you coping made from?
Hiya. I priced up some slate which was way to expensive. So I brought some lengths of Decking, painted it slate colour and fitted it upside down. Saved me a fortune... thanks for watching..😉👍👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle oh yes. Good point on the green. Cheers
How do you joint 2 pcs glass together?
Hiya, The glass comes already to go from the factory supplier. They place a laminated sheet in between the two pieces of glass. The glass is treated and the edges polished so they are smooth. Hope you enjoyed the video...👍😉😉
How much was the finer glassing
I would suggest over engineering everything so there's no worries after. I'm unsure how much the thinner glass is but wouldn't recommend it.. thanks for watching..😉👍
