And if I did this there would be wheel microscratches everywhere and would look foggy… You are amazing at what you do man! I aspire to be like you one day!
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing my biggest question is after polishing any aluminum how long will the luster last before oxidation will reoccur? I assume you recommend just soap and water on wheels no acid based chemicals in between polishes
What I do is after i polish with airway buffs and compound bàrs is i take a 6" microfiber polishing pad on my DA polisher, put some zephyr pro 40 on that pad and go over that aluminum at a low to medium speed then wipe with a clean microfiber cloth. Its important to keep your microfiber cloths in something where they wont get dusty or that dust will microscratch your work you just did. I was my microfibers in a washer with free & clear detergent and dry them in the dryer on the low heat setting
You are amazing at what you do and because of you I got into polishing simply from stumbling across one of you videos whatched it and got interested and been hooked ever since
Truly appreciate that. For me it isn’t about the trophies. But I want my customers to win for them. They deserve the recognition for what they built. I just shined the jewelry.
It takes time. If you got black lines you likely need to sand if it’s rough. Or if it’s nice you need to add pressure and tighten your overlap. 9 out of 10 that’s a fit.
I am a novice at this I’ve done my own truck 3 times over the last 3 years I’m getting better it is extremely tedious it takes patience and a strong will . It will wear you out if you’re not serious about it don’t even start . I do a 4 stage polish I finish with flannel wheel and zephyr blue moon and it comes out fantastic I get a lot of compliments and it feels good when it’s done. Gonna do it again in a couple weeks. I’m getting mentally prepared now. This time I’m taking the drives off that hub assembly is a pain in the $&@. I should send you a before and after. I ve learned a lot from you. I know you’re a pro but I’m kind of proud of what I can accomplish.
Not sure you gave any secrets away because you make it look easy but actually it is very very difficult to accomplish. Thank you again and we will try😎
I personally don't. I find that using hand polish after I have finish buffed will only scratch the surface. But I do use my time2shine hand polish to maintain in between polishes.
Evan, above all, I love learning from your videos. Question: in this video you use brown compound, but I heard you in another video say not to use brown on stainless steel. I am currently polishing a keg, first time polishing ever. I have been following your instructions, but now I am a little confused. I would love to have your input.
This tank is aluminum not stainless steel. I do not use brown on stainless steel ever. You do not achieve good results with most brown rouges on stainless.
I don't use sealer. Most good rouges have wax in them. That is the best sealant you will get other than a coating and coatings dull the shine. Hand polishes have less wax content than the rouges. Rouge is pushed into the pores whereas hand polish or hand sealants are just wiped onto the surface. I hope this makes sense.
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing yeah it makes sense but I’m in a unique position my boat stays in the water all summer the lake water browns the pontoons nothing I know will stop this but a sealer like alumitron or shark hide was hoping there was another product that did not dull the shine. Thank you for responding
would be so cool to see you and your cabover at the Brooks, Oregon truck show this year. Thats a pretty long drive for ya though. also great tips as always man, learning something new on the reg
Evan you need too start using a nomex hood for polishing. That will definitely help keep your face from becoming so dirty. Just a tip from someone who polished metals for 36 years.
Temperature is also important.. you have to heat up the metal you're working on.. back and forth slowly just like that.. makes me wanna go polish now.. 😁👍 looks like mirrors dude 😎
Beautiful as always. I have to ask, in your video showing the dangers of polishing, do you know what happened to that man who cut his arm all up? Did he lose it?
Thanks for the videos mate they are always interesting and helpful. Im just looking at getting a polishing setup here in New Zealand to do my 94 W Star. We only have a zephyr dealer here so I'll be using their product other wise I'd use yours. Your truck looks great👍
Seriously, how do you polish for like 20yrs and not have sinus or respiratory issues? I mean, no matter how good the mask you still get the dust or residue? Would love to see a video about what you guys experience from all that dust and grime, what you do for protecting yourselves and clean up after the chaos. Great videos.

Hey man I have a polishing buisness as well I got a set of forgiato wheels, and if I polish them with my airway wheels they get hazy looking before they polish out, I asked the customer if they had a clear coat or any coating on them he said no and if I hand polish it turns black, so I doubt they have a coating. The same thing happened to me before on a set of American forces. I was wondering if you had any insight on this issue.
If i were to buy one polish to always have at the house. A do it all polish if you will. What polish would you guys recommend? I am leaning towards "Flitz" is this a good call?
The show polishes are not as aggressive as the regular polish. These polishes should be used to touch up already polished aluminum. You should not use them on items that are in rough condition or not so decent shape.
Thank you so much for all your awesome videos! But sheesh that polisher is heavy! And it kinda scares me because anything you hit the wrong way ( lugs, bolt heads etc) that things grabs it and who knows what it’s going to do. Lol
