I can play money for nothing like a rockstar thanks to your excellent tutorial Pavel. This one im finding a bit more of a challenge with the right hand moving around a little more, especially getting enough power in the flick. I find myself pulling my last 2 fingers (ring and pinky) too hard against the high E string trying to get more power, and I lose proper hand stability. Ill get there though!! Thanks you for this accurate Knopfler stuff. Id love you to do a "Setting me up" tutorial some day. I really appreciate you, and I love your accent with your singing!
Hi Pavel! This channel is really awesome! Love to way you break it down amd stay true to knopfler-technique.. I’ve been playing for 26years now and mark knopfler was the reason I wanted to learn how to play in the first place. Since my childhood I’ve been playing the songs, chordwise, strumming and with a guitarpick… it never got near the real deal and that always bothered me. Watching your video’s and applying your expertise and approach made me get hooked on the songs again and for the first time in years I’ve been practicing in focus for hours. Thanks for the inspiration. Keep up the good work💪
I also spent many hours if not days studying Knopfler's technique, this is extremely good, well done. It is not easy and he varies it with different songs. It's uniquely driving, almost a band in one. Damping at the bridge is also vital which you do. Thank you and all the very best.
Amazing job you've done. I'm glad I can jump straight into learning the song without breaking it down although I'm sure it must have been tremendous journey for the one who attempted so.
This was just amazing. Always been a big fan of Mark's picking style. It took me a while but I think I learned this pretty good. And now when I listen to the original song I think you got it perfectly! This is so much fun to play and you saved a ton of time from me figuring it out myself.
Thank you very very much Pavel ! You’re my favorite teacher for each song of MK ! With you I can now play my guitar hero song. I love you !!!!! I ´ve just beginning the Get Lucky song now, witch is very hard... Tx so much my friend !
I can listen to the guitar playing for hours on end! If you would only make a version without the singing, there would be no need to listen to anything else ever again... Such an awesome version! This is exactly how guitar is meant to be.
I just can't believe you created exactly the channel I was whishing for!!! Accurate chords & fingering, great use of video, and excelent teaching. I was at college when Dire Straits took the world by storm with Sultans of Swings, since then I have being playing his music but always, always, looking for tutorials like this ( Internet in the 80' ??). Thanks a lot for your great job...please keep going!!!
Amazing! Thank you, this comment alone is worth doing it and of course I'll keep it up! My channel is a celebration of music and not a celebration of me teaching, but anyway it's a pleasure to be helpful in some shape or form.
@hrebolledoc5159 I hope you’re still around enjoying this wonderful channel. Are you a fan of Mark Knopfler and Dire straits? Hope to see you here again. Denise from Boston ☮️❤️🙏🏽🌱🐾🎸
Awesome, very well done and accurate. Honestly i've never seen anyone on youtube get mark knopfler's technique as spot on as you do. I've discovered your channel only a few days ago, thanks to the "boom like that" tutorial, which appeared in my homepage, but i already started going through all of your videos cause they are all absolutely quality, and this one is no exception. I really love listening to mark knopfler, but even if i have been playing guitar for a while now, i have never been able to actually figure out his style and play his songs correctly. Now i can, thanks to you. Thank you again my friend, you have definitely got a new subscriber, keep on doing what you are doing. greetings from italy✌🏼
Quarry giova Wow, thank you! Welcome to my little Knopfler land, feel free to suggest songs and to ask questions, because I can't cover 100% of the song in the video, so I miss a lot of things along the way. I love Italy, hope to visit it again soon! Pavel.
You, with always, impeccable, clarifying the Knopflerianas nuances like nobody else! I have learned a lot from you, your videos are very useful, I look forward to other pearls from the early days, something like Communiqué, Southbound Again, Setting Me Up, Single Handed Saillor. Great job, congratulations!
I listen to this video everyday with my spare time and am always one step closer to playing my favourite in all its glory, thanks dude for going so in depth! Thank you and hello from British Columbia Canada🇨🇦… eh!
Thanks Pavel, this is excellent. This rhythm has frustrated me for a while on the right hand to get that sound but this is the best and easiest I have seen and have finally got the right sound! I found a good tip that takes a lot of pressure off the left hand and index finger: Put a capo on the 2nd fret but don't capo the low E and possibly A string so the capo covers the other 4 strings ( you just put the capo in the other direction to achieve this ). This makes it a lot simpler.
Maybe because it’s just a side project for me. I don’t have a schedule, plans and goals, but merely doing what I love here. So it grows slowly, but surely.
You've nailed it! P.S. thanks for the spoiler alert for the chords 😂😂😂 Every great lesson includes some subtle humor. Thank you for your time and for the lesson.
I discovered your channel a few weeks ago. It's really great. I love how you do your videos because guitar and playing is in the focus. Many other youtubers who make guitar lessons are talking more than actually playing guitar in their videos. Your way is much better. And I love how accurate you are. You deserve more subscribers. I hope that you will keep doing great job of showing us how to play Knopfler's magic because his songs are a real treasure. Greetings from brotherly Serbia!
Nikola Aleksić I was there, too. That feeling when a guy talks and you like - please PLAY! please, and guys posting the comments like "he plays on 06:66 say thanks". I know that, so I'm trying to avoid as much of a bad habits as possible. Greetings to Serbia! Thank you Nikola.
Pavel Fomenkov You really got into Mark's secrets, that right hand, and as someone who's playing MK style guitar I can't thank you enough. Another greeting from Serbia.
You’ve nailed, man! You are the best guitar teacher I’ve ever had. As for the keyboard riff, It’s much more complicated than what it seems at first. The second keyboard hand (after the main riff is presented the first time) plays a different melody. I’ve been trying to get it and I think I’ve come near, but I’d love to have some confirmation from a real musician. Any thoughts or tutorials?
Bro this song is so hard for me when it’s easy in theory but the finger picking is challenging to get down as it doesn’t sound the same if you don’t get it.
So easy with the left hand, so hard with the right...been working on this one since I started playing three years ago! My guitar teacher asks me why I am still doing it, as 99% of people won't notice the difference between how i do it now, and how I did it a year or two ago, but getting anywhere close to Knopfler's sound with that right hand takes forever, with constant little adjustments. On the upside, it helps with playing lots of his other stuff! Thanks so much for this one and all of the others too. On a technical point, I notice that in 2008 you didnt really have the third finger resting on the guitar, and it still isn't fully anchored (it rests against the bottom string). Personally, I have tried anchoring the third finger, and i find it almost impossible as any movement of my third finger also moves my second. It also feels uncomfortable in the forearm. I anchor my little finger, which does make a difference getting leverage under the strings. looking at your third finger when you flick with the second, I can see a lot of movement in the third finger too so i wondered if you have had a similar issue. Given your dedication to this, and assuming I am right, I was interested in the journey you have had in that area over the last ten years (!) and any tips.
I can't quite understand exactly what you mean, if you mean resting little and ring finger on the guitar - I can't do that, maybe because my fingers are too short or something, it's just not my thing. Generally I tend to anchor my little finger like Chet Atkins did, and looks like you also do it like this.
Yes that is what I mean. For me though the problem isn't that my fingers are too short, but that the ring finger moves when I move my middle finger. Sounds like we have a different problem, but the same solution. I did notice a lot of difference when i started anchoring the little finger, and I keep trying to anchor the ring finger too, but it isnt happening for me!
Awesome video, really love the detail. On the flick note - thumb, index, *flick*, are you aiming for any particular strings? On the E5 for instance, are you just hitting the A on that downstroke or are you hitting the D string as well?
Fantastic my friend. Thank you for putting this up. Wonderful. :P

hello, as always you are the best with regards to mark. I would like to propose if you want to teach us "setting me up" thanks for what you do. Greetings from Italy
Neat! Impressive job Pavel. I knew of your 2008 version and I expected this lesson for quite some time. How do you get to learn the right hand pattern so precisely? Teachers, tabs, or just watching mark's videos? :-)

I don't know honestly, I make my videos so it's enough information to learn the whole song. I thought I've said enough, so can't really pinpoint exactly what else I can say. Mark really uses the same technique and chords throughout the whole song, just like you said.
@@PavelFomenkov thanks for replying. U explained it really well, i just wish the second part of the son was explained in the same detail as the intro as i am not a professional. If you record yorself playing the whole song slowly with lyrics would help too. Not tellng you to do it lol XDD, but it wuld be amazing so i can play it at the same time and get accustomed to the changes at the same time with the lyrics. When you do the downstroke (first part, on the E chord) with your middle finger are you just hitting the E string, or E and A, or or just A?
The down flick with the middle finger during the E chord he’s hitting the A string. On the A and the B chord he’s hitting the D string
