"Remember, remember, the Dalek December With Paris in ruins and London an ember In times of the future when fears are abating Don't try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting Quietly planning and scheming and hating"
"Once again, this is real, and I think it's canon" (Refering to the dalek cake part) I mean, these are the same guys who made a miniature TARDIS just so they could practise their aim on it due to their sheer hatred for the Doctor in Death to the Daleks... so yeah, it's probably canon.
Great video. I don't think this was mentioned but one of the Daleks was operated by a lady - Lynn Farleigh, probably the only time that a Dalek had been operated by a female. She recalled in a 1988 Manchester newspaper how uncomfortable it was and that she once felt so nauseous from the glue, so had to keep blinking the lights to signal she wanted to be rescued. She also recalled that one of the Dalek operators fell asleep during a performance so am actor had to kick the Dalek to wake him!
There was also an animated version of this story produced by Stuat Palmer just before Big Finish produced their version- unfotunately he had to discontinue it because of Big Finish's version.
I don't think the Go Gos had much idea of Dalek anatomy-feeding the Dalek Mutant sugar spice might be fatal and not sure how they hang a christmas stocking on his 'big red toe' but I love the song and play it in our house every Christmas morning( ignoring the shouts of protest).
As one of the children from that time I was pretty into the daleks -I had a Louis Marx Dalek-a squad of Dalek Rolykins, a dalek badge and my Mum mad me some Dalek Cakes( I think this was more or less the Blue Peter recipe-but am not sure we had all the chocolate icing -she chopped up a mini swiss roll-stuck some smarties into the lower bit and plonked a marshmallow on top as the dome sticking three cocktail sticks into this particular Skaro Degredation to represent the appendages).
This story reminds me a fair bit of Jubilee and I wonder if Jubilee took inspiration from it in some way. Whilst not the same, the idea of Jubilee was that Dalekmania became a thing in universe and the Daleks became overwhelmingly marketable. Akin to WW2, in trying to trivialize this evil and make it a joke (like WW2 did with the hindu symbol gang), people forgot the impact of their hatred and evil and forgot why they fought it. They even began to become like them, believing that 'we aren't them, so we aren't the bad guys.' This story later became the inspiration for 2005's Dalek, where it lost a lot of the other themes or at least the depth of them but it was still very close, when it came to the idea that we become too complacent and too quick to forget.
After seeing that hilarious Blue Peter skit, I think you should cover every Doctor Who appearance on Blue Peter similar to your Comic Relief vid. You’ll get to talk about the fantastic “That Take!” In much more depth than on the livestreams. How does that sound? Something that could maybe be voted in a future patreon poll?
What a great topic for a vid btw, total blindspot. Glad we're not skipping over dalekmania, makes you wonder how many seasons Who would've truly had without it.
I enjoyed the audio, and am glad they kind of stuck by the content of the original instead of trying to change or update it. I'm really used to 1930s/40s pulp stuff so the kind of weird dialogue and banter didn't bother me that much, just kind of reflecting how this sort of thing is often twenty or twenty-five years behind the literature. Of the three Doctor Who stage plays, this one is my favourite, despite, you know, not having a Doctor. Not a classic maybe but pretty interesting and fun to listen to.
Star Trek recently started a series based on the idea of the original pilot from the 1960's getting picked up. I would be intereted if they made a Dalek series based on Nation's ideas.
Michael Praed! That means that we have both ‘Robin Hoods’ (Robin of Loxley & Robert of Huntingdon) from Robin of Sherwood involved in the Whoniverse! This thrills me to no end, thank you 💜
I would love to see it on stage even with its faults, i did see a Dalek on stage when John Barrowman did panto in Brum years ago, on a backstage tour of the production they bemoaned the Dalek contract was like a telephone directory with the stuff they couldn't do with the prop
It just occured to me, but was Power of Three parhaps riffing on the Dalek phenomenon? That if aliens ever did invade and they looked somewhat adorable, we'd sooner market them on various products before processing that they're supposed to be an enemy to be opposed.
Imagine being so thoughtful on the nature of Daleks and fascism and then have a weird rant on women's lib. Then present that to kids! What a strange production

The mere mention of cake got David Tennant's stamp of approval.

That unique intro score, man. That's so eerie

That Dalek Christmas song is definitely going to be on the album for this year’s Christmas party at my university’s Doctor Who society. 😂

I think we take for granted now just how popular Daleks were and still are.

Well. That was chilling and amazing to hear about. Thanks for another great video, Trilbee!
I have the audio version of this story it is awesome in billions of ways

Button sweets.... SMARTIES !! THEY'RE SMARTIES !!!!
Yes. And sticky backed plastic is called Sellotape. 😂
"Did you like the Dalek cake?" "No, it tasted shite and gave me the squits."
They should bring that music back I think it would be a hit
The Daleks showing up on Blue Peter is cannon and Valerie Singleton is the best companion ever.
Gotta love when i discover UA-cam has once again unsubscribed me from a channel i watch after i wonder why they've not uploaded in so long...

The dalek war is with the thals after they killed davros and doctor come
For balance, you should also cover the Gay Daleks who appeared in Victor Lewis-Smith’s TV Offal

I think the BBC/Bad Wolf missed a trick by not putting on live productions of the plays in the anniverssary year.

As a fan of Cybermen, I have honestly never understood "Dalekmania".
I guess Cybermania doesn’t hit the same as Dalekmania for some.
@@crimsondynamo615That doesn't really make sense as the ever changing Silver Giants didn't have the same impact as the Daleks.

The number one enemy of the daleks… cake
It was the butler the butler always did it😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is the Dalek Cake blue Peter skit better than Take That blue Peter though?

That is very interesting so I know I am asking for spoilers but do the daleks survive?
brilliant xoxoxo
great we got a dead planet style black dalek, was definately missing in the original serial
👍
Not a fan of neo liberalism but what did the Daleks have to do with free market capitalism
The Daleks aren't free market capitalists....

I'm slightly concerned about your definition of flirty dialogue here. Unless the word's taken on a new meaning since I last looked!
how were fascists allowed to make a Doctor Who play, even back in those times??
