Multiple dangers for your exploration: homeless squatter. Injury from building failure. Getting trapped by building. And running into the Po-Po cause ya trespass. Thank you Rick for taking the risk.
Almost 40 years ago my high school was destroyed by fire in the oldest part in the building. It was plastered and wood for building the school. It was opened in 1917. The school was so many add ons over the years. My memory of it was walking around the school with my friends. Even less stricter, too. I remembered drinking soda after school in the hallways. Even chewing gum in school. I did cried the following afternoon when I was the aftermath of the fire. I remembered in getting my stuff out of the locker in the hallway that was close to the fire. I thought it was gone. It was hard to see the lock. I did managed to opened my locker. I just had my gym bag with my gym clothes in it. That year that my school had a little bit longer Christmas break. I did went back to school in early January for a short time for an assembly and even getting my stuff out. I went with a neighbor’s 2 boys. One of them had gotten his driver’s license to drive. Him and his brother. Even picked up some more friends. I ended up sitting in the back of the station wagon. I felt safe at that time. I ended up sitting with a friend that was a sophomore at that time. Even did tour the damaged area of the school in September 1985. My sister didn’t go towards it. I did with my parents. I had a couple classes that were destroyed by the fire. When I saw the school that was damaged by the fire and it was almost the entire school except for the former band hallway, boys locker room, girls locker rooms, gym, and field house. It took a little bit over a year for the school being built. During my senior year the school was still under construction. 1/2 of the boys locker room was used for the girls locker room during the 1st semester. The new gym was opened towards the 2nd semester. The swimming pool was opened towards the end of the year. I didn’t enjoyed the last things in the school towards the end of school. There was carpeting in the hallways and classrooms. Now these days there are 2 schools. One for freshmen and sophomores. The other one for juniors and seniors. When I was during my senior years was a little bit over 1600 students. Now these days over 4000. My graduating class was 359 students and it might be more. My sister didn’t have any experiences in walking through the hallways of the old school liked me. I went into the school in February 1984 with my mother for new students started in the fall in the cafeteria. Even shortly seeing Mrs. Bryan from special education on my classes with my mother. I even did explored the school a little bit,too with my mother. The old part was interesting for the 2nd floor had a flight of stairs for some classes and even lockers. It was still the second floor. The first floor had 3 steps going up. I didn’t go to the back of the school that was 3 floors. Even my junior high school graduation ceremony was in the high school. We went through the school from the front towards underneath the gym and got into the gym. It was slow movement of students. It was the height of each student. I was in the middle as I remembered. One kid missed out because having chicken pox. I remembered being hot in the gym. I wore uncomfortable pair of schools during the ceremony. I did have a party for my 8th grade graduation. I did for after high school that my parents invited their friends for it. I even invited a friend towards it. He was so shy and afraid of people at it. He was there for a short time. I was at his for a long time when he graduated high school. He was in the same grade as my sister was.
Only if New Jersey could fix that building to house their homeless veteran or seniors or reopen it as a charter school or whatever is needed for that area.
@ No. There are plenty of people like in HUD homes that would come in a volunteer a day or a weekend to install, hammer.. Plus New Jersey has trade schools put those kids to work for getting tuition money. New Jersey is a state of a lot of possibilities you just have to research it.
@ Then use the vocational students that receive grants, scholarships to do the work properly. They get actual job training. There is alway a solution around it.
Hi When you opened that door to the school it squeaked that much it was like the start of a horror movie, must of been freezing filming this while it was snowing outside, good history, excellent explore, thankyou, 😎⛄🌨

Oh yeah, it is a crying shame. People these days have no respect for nothing, don't worry about nothing but themselves, do nothing but sit on their phone and computers. People are clueless and disrespectful.

At one time Newark was a major industrial city that was flush with cash. That building dates to that era. If you haven't notice there really is no industry left in the US. There is no money for something like that.
@@MrSloika The money for nice buildings still exist in great quantities, its primarily a shift in culture. Even in the 60s & 70s nice buildings were being torn down for mundane office, retail and industrial space. The loss of industry is by no means the only or even majority cause for this removal of nice ornamented architecture. Even in societies with a lot of current industrial capacity you won't find beautiful structures anymore.

Doing something like that would cost so much they would be better off just building a new building

Why does our culture have no respect for beautiful structure like these or building beautiful structures like these again? Absolute shame.

I need all the warmth I can get!
To bad the building is so far gone. It would have been a good place to make into apartments for the homeless.
