hi a year ago i purchase a ST1100 year 2000 with only 56,000kms After 8,000 kms last year i am really impressed by this bike i will keep it for many years for sure
I have one. The only word to describe it is; practical. I bought it with a bit over 40,000 miles. It's got around 110,000 on it now. It's my car. I ride it until temps dip below freezing. Mine is a 93. I do recommend buying one I think 96 and later when they switched to the alternator. But it is a solid bike. I like the 1300s but I think the 1100 is just a touch more comfortable. I've been on the look for a cruiser, but as far as an every day bike that's close to a car.. the ST is it.
Had a chance to ride an Honda ST 1300 the other day. Fell in love in 5 minutes. Pulled hard in every gear and extremely comfortable. Quiet and nice cover from the wind.
Had also ST1300 but ST1100 is much more stable on a high speeds, i could run it for hours at 160-180kmh without any stability issues. On the other hand, ST1300 was pretty unstable on high speed with crosswinds involved.
Almost two years ago I looked for a long time and finally bought a '95 ST1100. It's now at 77,000 miles and climbing. Runs great, everyday. I can see having this a long time compared to any of the other (sometimes newer) bikes I've had previously. Good smooth power, quiet but not silent, and over 250 miles range on a tank of gas.
Now. 2022. I want this bike for looks! It doesn’t pretend to be an insect! Looks solid. Comfy. Looks like it will take me wherever-whenever. (I have also done my research and I know that it will). But mainly- it looks so damn great.
Why buy a st1100? Super practical Loads of leg room Loads of storage Massive 250-300mile fuel range. Absolutely bullet proof! Eats up the miles Cheap to own and to run. Goes fast enough to have fun. Super smooth engine. Fantasic two up long distance bike. I could go on forever.... Sold my last one with 85,000 miles on. I still regret it now. Going to be getting another.
Mine has 104000km on board and it is absolutly lovely.Problems free since 1997 since today :)).Yep its a keper and it will always have a place in my garage.
I have one of these and I agree with every point he made, I even agree with the look he gave right at the end, the look that said I cant believe ive actually just said that! They are not a beautiful bike by any stretch but for a machine that just keeps on going no matter what you cant beat it!

The goldwing is a big beast for sure, my dad has one and Ive taken it out for a blast a couple of times. While they are the size of the moon, they still shift like shit of a brick. As far as bikes go the GL1500 and the ST1100 are very good touring bikes and you can cover vast amounts of miles on them without feeling like you have really done yourself any longterm harm. Oregon is a nice place to ride around, especially during the summer, its one of the reasons why im working my ass off to move to the USA.
I have the same version as in the video. I can confirm the "Friend for life" thing. They'll have to pry her from my cold dead hands, I'm never selling this bike. Just over 100000 Km and the engine and carbs are smooth as butter. Pair of Dunlop RS IIIs and she's actually flickable! Stable when you need it, flickable when you want it. It's the ideal copromise in motorcycle engineering.

100 hp and 107 Nm torque and a linear delivery makes them pretty quick. For what they are they are fast and flickable. You will be very surprised. I would compare it to an old GSXR1100 OW I used to ride. If you call the power delivery boring it will only be because it is so predictable and useable.
Been running a '98 ST1100 for a couple of years now. Bought it as a Winter runner originally but they just grow on you. Just invested in new rear suspension and front fork renovation so she's good for another few years now.
I finally added a '98 ST1100 to my stable, which includes a '97 Honda Valkyrie and a '98 Kawasaki KLR 650. I'm really liking my ST. It has(almost) the power of the Valk, and(almost) the gas mileage of the KLR. :)

They have opened up the engine and there was nothing wrong with it !!!! How about that, they said i could drive it another 100000 Km without any problems. If you do your maintenance on time (like oil change and all) it just keeps on driving and will never let you down. I love mine and tend to drive it till the end. Just a point, to go round the clock on one of these is not 'entirely possible' as Mr Hammond suggests for the simple reason it has an odometer that reads 6 digits so to go around the clock you'd need to do a million miles. They are a very bike with a great motor but a million miles is probly pushing it a tad.

As soon as you move the weight is gone, it’s even better with a full tank of fuel as fuel,is under the seat. The tank is an air filter cover. It is easier to ride than a scooter at low speed. Just putting it on the center stand was a trick and eventually gave me a hernia.

Nice, full-featured sport tourer, but at well over 700 lbs, we're getting into Gold Wing territory and just too damn heavy, no matter how well it 'handles'.
You don't even notice the weight when riding.
As soon as you move the weight is gone, it’s even better with a full tank of fuel as fuel,is under the seat. The tank is an air filter cover. It is easier to ride than a scooter at low speed. Just putting it on the center stand was a trick and eventually gave me a hernia.
I don't dislike Mr Hammond, but when it comes to bikes he seems to lack authenticity.

Doesn't make a great sound.
Not able to actually hear it.
It looks as though a child stole his dad's bike.
shit hot bikes imo, still going years after all the pretend race bikes have gone to scrapyard in the sky and their pretend racer owners have bought their RL volvos ,ironically. ;)
No the bike isnt big. You are just small.
0:13 I hate the way he says words like 'commuting', with that goofy pronunciation
The subsequent "cool!!!!' is equally annoying
He is knob to be honest.
Imagine having a show titled “Men and motors” nowadays? Hahah! Them and motors
