Truant trap has been a strategy since Gen V. Seeing Durant and Dugtrio on the same team immediately gives it away and players should be aware of counterplay. BUT what's cool about this video is seeing you counter other teams not just because of the gimmick, but because of your switch and prediction skills. The other teams are playing smart, they just make one mistake and you trap them. *That's* what's cool about this video.
So I just stumbled upon this channel like 20 minutes ago and, frankly, its pretty great. But then I saw the Pokemon Gimmick #13 (the one with the Beat Up Weavile) and I laughed because I had been on Showdown earlier today and I completely walled that team with a very overlooked Pokemon that you might want to try for yourself, Furfrou. I made this Furfrou set completely by myself for 1v1, but it works very well in AG too under certain conditions. It completely destroys most physical attackers (Mega Medicham overwhelms it but whatever), but isnt great against special attackers and critical hits. The set is: Furfrou (Furfrou) (M) @ Rocky Helmet Ability: Fur Coat EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Cotton Guard - Charm - Rest - Facade How it works: Cotton Guard and Fur Coat equates to x8 def in just two turns, and then add charm too the mix and they can only do 1/32 of the damage they would do otherwise. Charm also overpowers Dragondance and reverses the effects of Swords dance, meaning that they cant even set up against it well. Facade is to punish them when they go for a Toxic (which was a huge problem when I was beta testing the set) and then Statuses can be healed with Rest. Rocky Helmet does most of the damage, though you might have to Facade equakers. You could also replace Facade with Last Resort, but I prefer Facade lol. You can use this set in a video if you'd like, but I want credit lol
CJer tbh every furfrou set is like yours only facade is different but i wouldnt really even choose facade since some type coverage would be alot better for a tank imo
I've been using this gimmick for months before I watched this video and I have some team suggestions. Since Dugtrio is the only Pokémon that you really need to sweep the team, you basically have 5 slots to use as good as you can. You're not gonna effectively use Gothitelle, Shuckle or Clefable, since they can get ohkoed so easily, especially with those movesets. I lead with a Focus Sash Timid Smeargle with SR, Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Memento so I can set up entry hazards or use Memento straight away to force a switch on a ghost or flying type. Then I have a 0IV Choice Scarf Timid Leavanny to set up Sticky Web and then die to any attack. Then I have a Choice Scarf Excadrill with Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin in case I get hit with hazards or if Smeargle gets taunted or uses Memento. The reason why I choice into SR or Rapid Spin is because there isn't a commonly used Ubers Pokemon with Taunt AND hazards, bar Smeargle itself who I often let set up until it switches out. Lastly, of course, Durant and Dugtrio. Durant is pretty straightforward: Timid 0IV with Choice Scarf. Dugtrio is Jolly with max speed and max attack and a Focus Sash. Jolly allows me to outspeed Deoxys-S after Sticky Web and 1196 attack (299 x 4 after +6 boosts) is enough to ohko every single Pokemon in the game
I have my own variant of the dugtrio team but I like the shadow tag version of this team better. For that I use shuckle, klefki, durant, mega gengar, gothetelle, and gothoria
now that arena trap is unbanned in gen 8, can you do a video on this? The lack of pursuit and more great ghost types really does hurt but I think you can find a way to make this work
How would you deal with VoltTurn with this team? Shutdown seems easy enough, mostly involving multiple priority attacks, but it really does seem like one wrong move pretty much ends up with Truant Entrainment starting the sweep.
Great question! Eject Button actually cancels the effects of U-Turn and Volt Switch, so if Durant uses Entrainment on a Tapu Koko and gets hit by Tapu Koko's U-Turn, Durant will switch into Dugtrio and Tapu Koko will remain on the field. Dugtrio's Protect also prevents U-Turn from switching the opponent out, so he can boost up all the way and sweep.
Focus Sash ensures you live at least a single priority move, which means you're guaranteed at least 2 KOs (1 being the first victim which won't ever hit you) which sounds good to me, especially since you could always just trap one of their priority move users.
Only three pokemon? I'd go with Shuckle with Smack Down, Stealth Rock, Sticky Web, and Encore since speed control is essential. Next would be Durant for Entrainment + Eject Button, then Protect/Hone Claws Dugtrio with a Focus Sash to switch in, boost up, and sweep.
Ok so because I’m poor and can’t find my old copy of Pokemon black how about a Pokémon that debuffs your opponent ending with a memento meaning that you can switch in dugtrio without taking damage first and they don’t have an opportunity to predict the switch into dugtrio
@@hockeycrafter6086 Do U still need a durant? Btw U can't catch a truant durant outside of the dreamworl which was shut down. I have on with entraintment
Several people have done variations of this, including Pimpnite, Aravar, and Little Zubat. This is simply my analysis of the strategy and my take on how the team should be built.
My idiot friend at school insists Ultra Necrozma is op, and that “if” as he says I took the Durant and dugtrio trap against him he’d magically counter it somehow...
Hey! I have a strategy that i thought would be fun to try on douvles or 2v2 It uses an azumarill and a mega-bannete, you need skill swap on Mbannete to trade azumarill's huge power to anything else, you can try a support/bulky azumarill, by trading with Mbannete, but you can also try other types of azumarills by switching to his other abilities, when not M-evolved. I'm still trying to make a good team to deal with the problems those 2 have, but i still couldn't figure out. If i find anything interesting, i'm going to answer this comment.
How well would something like Aqua Jet work against this? Or, better yet, stuff like First Impression? I tend to keep one priority move minimum on casual play. (Not much of a competitive player or online battler right now)
Someone used this on me in sword and shield, soon as I saw the dugtrio protect i realized what was happening and bounced. Why would anyone sit through this lol
@@EloBandit true.... but Mimikyu is broken af.... would be ubers if not for the fairly low stats.... not that Mimikyu is mentioned anywhere in the video or my original comment

Richard Lawson like what coverage?
I prefer Sucker Punch over Stone Edge honestly. Worse coverage, but if you're expecting a priority move, it's the only way to fight back.
"noooooo! you can't just ignore my priority move and go first!"
"haha extreme speed go wooosh"
In the first video , Greninja didn't use water shuriken for some reason
This is OP in AG. I use phasing tailwind mew in case my opponent has a flying type and shackle is dead, or if my opponent’s Pokémon outspeeds durant

Nah. All you need is not to be a complete fucking moron and refrain from attacking on the turns Durant can move.
All the contrary. One single wrong move means this "strategy" immediately fails.

anything with shadow tag/arena trap, setup, and protect can do this >:3

Taunt and damage with Goth, Lando, Clefable, and Weavile until they're within range of Dugtrio's unboosted Earthquake.
